Battlefield 2042 Delay Is "Smoothing Out Rough Edges;" Dog Tags Will Appear in Some Form

A DICE dev says the Battlefield 2042 delay is more about "smoothing out the rough edges." Dog tags seem to still be in the game.

How much do you want to bet that the lauch will still be a fuster cluck. I really don't understand how after releasing however many online multiplayer games, and having so much experience with network code, they always still manage to bungle the launch everytime. I mean who can remember the last time a mainline Battlefield game had a smooth launch.

Anyway here's hoping, this time will be different...

...yeah right!

PhillyDillyDee940d ago

I remember! BF1s launch was quite smooth. It also happens to be the last feature complete battlefield game they made.

That said, I agree with you. And calling next week a “beta” is laughable as there wont be enough time to fix any major problems that pop-up before launch.

RaidenBlack940d ago

Their launch luck alternates with every BF release.
BF3, BF1 were comparatively smooth.
BF4, BFV not so much.

pr33k33940d ago

doesnt matter tbh, since a ton of people still buy it despite the problems.

1nsomniac940d ago

This is DICE. They have always since day one been the worst game developer in the world at fixing bugs. They’re completely incompetent. There’s still game breaking bugs in the frostbite engine that have been their since it’s inception. BF games especially on PC have never run correctly at launch and I have my suspicions that this one will be particularly bad. Let’s see just how long it takes them to fix it to a correct release standard.

jeromeface940d ago

Id rather have innovation and bugs than the same old call of duty on the same engine year in and year out... it took the recent MW till there was any innovation and that's just because they strapped ray tracing on it.

jeromeface940d ago

How many AAA launches were you responsible for that went smooth?

And if this game doesnt go over well, they can just abandon it and promise the next one will be amazing!

RaidenBlack940d ago

Yea ... still hate them for abandoning BF:V . It had loads of potential. Could've added tons more nations, weapons, maps and vehicles. Gave it the same love as BF:1.
And they even fixed much of stuffs with the Pacific update. But alas, they chickened out later.
Just look at No Man's Sky.
But i guess the problems with EA's management rather than the devs.
Devs were interested to fix the game they worked so hard for.

PhillyDillyDee940d ago

I really couldn’t agree more. BFV was well on the right path and the community was hopeful after the Pacific update… then they just abandoned it. I swore after that I would never buy another battlefield at launch. A modern WW2 battlefield and they completely wasted its potential.

ArchangelMike940d ago

Yeah, when the upper management started forcing DICE to mess about with the TTK to appeal to the newbies the whole thing just went down the pan. I'm glad the devs were able to get it back on track - but unfortunately by that time BFV sales had already tanked below expectations; and upper management by that time would'nt want to invest in a sinking ship.

Hopefully, with the inclusion of Portal, Dice will have a gem on thri hands this time.

FGHFGHFGH940d ago

They made 6 free dlc and a br mode. You can get full 64 player games 24 hours a day still. (on pc) I'm glad they made a new bf game with modern weapons. Tired of using old ass guns + choppers are back.

An Update on Battlefield 2042 and Welcoming Motive Studio to the Team

EA:

While we’ve enjoyed and are proud of creating these seasons of additional content for Battlefield 2042, it is now necessary for us to turn from the present to the future. What this ultimately means is that Season 7 will serve as the final season for Battlefield 2042. After Season 7 concludes, we will continue to support the game with new in-game challenges, events, modes, and of course, ongoing maintenance, but we are moving away from delivering official seasons.

Streamer Claims DICE Paid Over 60 Content Creators for Battlefield 2042 Feedback, Then Ignored It

Streamer Shroud says that DICE paid 60 to a hundred content creators to help develop Battlefield 2042, but ignored every single advice.

GoodGuy0932d ago

No wonder the game ended up the way it did
What they should've done was ask BF fans. Most general content creators typically go for the trend and the top creators stream games like LOL, fortnite, dota, gtaV, battle royale etc.

_SilverHawk_31d ago

A lot of times people want a game to be something else and I'd probably guess a lot of people wanted call of duty or a lot of it's features.

Bf2042 is amazing now but was not so much at launch. A lot of improvements made the game an amazing game with its own identity. I'm hoping the new battlefield game coming next year improves upon everything in bf2042 and is more akin to bf3 and bf4.

Gamingsince198131d ago

I want them to do a new bad company instead

DustMan30d ago

A ton of people have written the game off now. Which is unfortunate because I find it to be one of the best multiplayer shooters available now. I've been aware that a Battlefield game has not launched in a good condition since....I don't remember. So I never played at launch due to the horror stories, but it seems to have pulled a Battlefield 4 and really turned itself around. Good stuff. Love getting 4 kills on an apc with a well placed RPG, or Stinger to a loaded chopper lol. No other game has given me that kind of joy. lol.

Kornholic31d ago

To be fair, I would not listen to content creators/influencers either.

BISHOP-BRASIL30d ago

Look, I wouldn't pee on an influencer if they were on fire, but why pay for their feedback only to ignore it?

Kornholic30d ago

I don't know. Maybe they thought it was a good idea at first but eventually found out that it was best to ignore influencers' opinions?

jznrpg31d ago

I’ll give some advice and take money for it. You can use it or not use it just make sure to pay me

badboyz0931d ago

who would've thought🤷‍♀️

Yi-Long30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Battlefield fans just want Battlefield to be Battlefield. Which means a focus on Conquest-mode (5/6 flags), some gorgeous and fun maps to play on, 4 balanced classes, and that's it.

The suits keep wanting to turn Battlefield into everything else BUT Battlefield, so first they wanted BF to be more like Call of Duty, so they copied a bunch of stuff from CoD. Then they wanted to take advantage of the Battle Royale stuff, so they went after that crowd. Then they saw the heroes stuff in Overwatch and so they brought in specialists. Etc.

Guys, we just want Battlefield. Not every games has to be everything to all people. Specialize in what makes (made) your series great, which is large(r) maps (appropriate size for the amount of players, which IMO should be 24-32 max, so not just big for bragging brights), integrating vehicle-combat, and just allowing the freedom and flow which made those matches in older Battlefield games so special at times.
