Landfall has launched a major Totally Accurate Battlegrounds update , debuting a Battle Pass, report system, and more in its Battle Royale game on PC.
Erickson: With more and more Battle Royale type of games being in development, 2018 is looking like the year of Battle Royale. The games in this article started life as April Fool’s jokes meant to fool both fellow developers and their fans. Somehow, both games stuck around only because of their positive reception by the masses.
I've become too jaded as a gamer I think. I just don't believe any game that does a Battle Royale mode with any amount of actual effort put into it is purely a joke. I think, in this saturated market and general poor view of new BR games, if you say you are doing a Battle Royale you will get shrugged off or actively booed. It is oversaturated and people have good options. The way to subvert that expectation? Make it a joke!
This wasn't for real, we are in on the joke too! It's a joke game, because Battle Royales are overplayed and dull. But look at our silly game! Oh...people played it and liked it? Well, we weren't planning on keeping it around, but I guess we'll just go ahead and keep supporting it then!
