Steve D. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "As there are NO other major Nintendo releases left this year, Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be the only new Nintendo title this holiday season. Demand is sure to be extremely high so logically Nintendo should prepare to sell millions of copies. So why on Earth would Nintendo make Super Mario 3D All-Stars a limited release? The reason…you might find disturbing."
Mario, TMNT, Sonic, some of the best retro games live on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo has just provided some updated information on several of their Switch million seller titles via CESA 2022. As such, we’ve got some new sales figures for a few of these titles.
Awesome to see Bayonetta 2 get over a million and the Xenoblade games to do so well! Good numbers all around. Nice to see Nintendo recover after the Wii U.
With the release of the White Book, Super Mario 3D All-Stars lifetime sales hit a new total of 9.07 million.
I still have a sealed copy of this game. I heard it was going to be a limited release so I never opened it. I wouldn’t exactly call 9mil limited however.
Nintendo played us yet again. Fattened up their pockets by using the coveted limited release tactic to gain profits by secretly releasing more than they said was available.
I feel this as bad as insider trading. There's a law broken somewhere here. It doesn't feel right. Bastards never again will I listen to their bs.
It was stupid to make it a limited release to begin with. No matter, it is pretty easy to find used copies for people who missed it and want the collection. It is a fine collection, especially having Mario Galaxy which is a pain to emulate because of the controls.
Can they just do the Zelda collection already?! Yes we know Mario is popular. But damnit I want a Zelda collection of all the handheld games, including the 3ds remakes of Ocarina and Majora along with the great and underappreciated Link Between Worlds.
There’s so much wrong with this collection that it’s absurd how much wrong Nintendo did with what should’ve been one of the greatest collection of games of all time on par with Super Mario All Stars
- Collection does not include Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Super Mario 3D Land
- These titles aren’t being remade with the Super Mario Odyssey engine
- It’s being sold for $60 when there’s been little effort in remastering these titles in the face of Crash & Spyro having remake collections that sold for $40
- This collection is being sold only for a limited time so scalpers will be what keep the legacy of this alive when it goes out of print
I never played Sunshine or Galaxy looking forward to those games but Mario 64 should have been spruced up looks wise even modders have been doing that for years. As for a limited run I can understand manufacture issues due to COVID19 or a collectors edition with a figure or some sort of nick knacks added to it. But limiting a game both physical and digital is a dumb move and it's going in the wrong direction. I can see Switches with the digital version of the Mario collection going for stupid prices on Ebay.
Such an anti-consumer company for so many reasons and they always get a pass, pretty much done with them... Games you've bought many times behind a subscription, repackaged games with very little to justify the price, badly done ports with no effort and time limits on purchase. ALSO....NO METROID PRIME TRILOGY!
As someone who owns a PS4, Switch, and gaming PC, I can't believe how anti-consumer Nintendo is. What's crazy is that so many Switch die-hards defend Nintendo or ignore its shortcomings at every turn. The system still does not let you stream Netflix/Prime, the online infrastructure is a joke, 1st-party games that have been out for a long time rarely see sales, and I swear the large breach that happened a few months ago barely left a ripple in the news.
I really love BotW, Odyssey, Smash, Kart, and Splatoon, and look forward to Metroid and BotW2, but the list of compelling exclusives is short (gf plays Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion is still too expensive for me to justify the purchase). Nintendo is saving Galaxy 2 for a separate release which I'm sure will be full price with whatever other Mario games it gets bundled with. It looks like minimal effort was put into the two new collections, though I'd still love to revisit 64 and Galaxy, and finally try Sunshine and 3D World.
Nintendo: "Hey, the games are great and people are desparate for something. Let's create some scarcity to drive up demand and justify the price."
Sorry folks, rant over.
