This story reminds me of the SSD showdown that Linus did on his YT channel... https://youtu.be/4DKLA7w9ee...

RpgSama1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

Are these developers the only guys talking about the Series X? I mean every other day there's an article about Scorn and the Xbox.

It's literally only them.

one interview and 100 articles about it

It's GB... they like to milk a source dry, and then squeeze out a little bit more for good measure.

bouzebbal1855d ago

Gamingbolt and dualshockers.. Both a joke when it comes to milking news.

fr0sty1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

GB is far worse, the worst in the industry, about that. After they run out of info from this interview, they'll fall back on the old "have a no-name dev state the obvious" garbage... "Xbox Series X CPU increase over Xbox One will enable more realism in games: Dev" ... "SSD's in next gen consoles will reduce load times: Dev"

neutralgamer19921855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

Better get used to it because over the next 7 to 10 days Microsoft will really strong on this PR behind the Xbox series X

Expect to hear from many Microsoft executives on daily basis especially Phil Spencer. Over the last two to three weeks anytime sony has something to talk about or show the very same Microsoft releases bunch of articles in PR (not saying it's a good thing or a bad thing just stating what I think is going on)

morganfell1855d ago

"Gamingbolt and dualshockers.. Both a joke when it comes to milking news."

There is a third site doing it as well.

With everything this dev has said about xbox I doubt it was all in the same interview. Can you imagine how biased that would look.

TheHan1855d ago

Similar to Naughty Dog.

yeah.....but that is on PC that don't have the hardware for compression and APIs that the new consoles will have. I thought the same thing when consoles started talking about SSD because I researched SSD a while back and found the bottlenecks in PC negated much of the difference between standards.

We don't really know what it is going to mean for console games beyond what Sony and Microsoft are saying and they are both hyping their SSDs up a lot.

This scorn guy is backing up the console and the company who partnered with him so I am not putting a lot into his opinion. Just as many rightfully questioned Tim Sweeney's objectivity in what appeared to be a paid sponsorship of PS5 with his UE5 reveal.

ProjectVulcan1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

PC will have the DirectStorage API by the time Series X launches. It is designed to give low level access to NVMe drives and reduce decompression down from a multicore operation to a small percentage of a single CPU core.

RazzerRedux1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

@ProjectVulcan

Yep! Love that all this new tech will find its way to my PC. Linus will have to revisit this topic when PC games start taking advantage of the new APIs.

Jin_Sakai1855d ago

The developer making an Xbox exclusives game claims the SSD difference is a matter of diminishing returns? Yea ok.

I’ll wait and see what Sony’s 1st party teams are able to do with super fast SSD at their disposal.

battlegrog1855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

Sx loads pretty much instantly. The ps5 ssd is going to load a split second faster. I guarentee you both systems will be able todo the same thing and we wont see a revolutionary difference. And guess what that is ok. Im still buying a ps5 and the ps5 marketing can bullshit you all they want. The ps5 controller is nothing new either but they want you to think it is. Best shape design a ps controller has been yes but its nit a revolutionary difference and that is ok. People need to stop this nonsense.

They both will be very similar and the sooner people get they're shit together the better the industry will be. Nitpicking nonsense

Jin_Sakai1855d ago Show
Tacoboto1855d ago

@Jin It remains to be seen what that twice-as-quick means.

For third-party games, does that mean a 2 second load versus a 4-5 second one, instead of a 45 second current-gen one? We know they won't go to the effort of PS5-exclusive assets.

For first-party games, will it be like UE5's demo where devs will make the choice of a higher-asset 30fps mode and high-performance 60fps mode?

Or will it evenly balance out with Series X's 10GB-worth of faster RAM and higher CU count?

neutralgamer19921855d ago

Jin

We all know Sony will actually show games which are truly next generation and are only possible on next generation. This whole generation Sony has supported PlayStation 4 really well and they are ready to move on but PS4 will still get a lot of support from third parties for the next few years

Microsoft on the other hand has gone soft this generation and now when it's time to move on for some reason they want to stay behind to show support for older consoles. There is no way a game that has to run on a system with SSD and 12 teraflops can also be made to one on a system that is one teraflop that is the exact definition of holding back the developers

I guess more power to them they're giving Sony a huge advantage out of the gate. you could already play Xbox games on PC and on top of that their next generation machine isn't even required to play their games

Once again more power to them we will see once both consoles launch which company made the right call

mandingo1855d ago

It’s not about what first party does it’s about what third party does because that’s 90 percent of games. The record will show not a huge difference. Watch.

1855d ago
DOMination-1855d ago

The Xbox One X is twice as powerful as the base model PS4 but the games don't look twice as good and if anything they are twice as bad as anything Sony have published.

SSD is not new technology. Many on here will have m.2 drives in their computer or Laptop. I have a Samsung EVO 970 myself which is probably comparable to what will be in the XSX. Guess what? There is still loading. I just booted up Premiere Pro and it still took 20 seconds.

Rationally thinking, it depends on how optimised this is. If the XSX is only going to take a few seconds to load anyway, there isn't going to be much of an advantage. However, if we are talking about PS5 taking ten seconds and XSX taking 20 seconds, suddenly that becomes more important. Very interested to see it all in action across both platforms.

Imortus_san1855d ago

Ps5 will give you the worst experience in 99% of the games a bit faster.

That’s for pc that has many bottle necks between ssd and real time performance.

gravedigger1855d ago

Says the guy who works only for Xbox/PC platform and doesn't have a PS5 devkit. Basically a MS PR

Malice-Flare1856d ago

seeing as your game has been in development before PCIe M.2 drives became standard on PCs, i'd blame your game design method more than the new tech for that diminishing returns...

Smclaren19851855d ago

Thank you my friend someone who is actually talking sense there litterally the only team that’s made such an idiotic statement there’s at least 10 other developers all raving about the diff a ssd will make and it’s more to do with IO throughput plus the vrtual memory on tap too so it’s not just standard ssd like it would be if you put one into you console today

CaptainObvious8781855d ago

I'd also be surprised if they had a ps5 dev kit, so how would they even know?

Aenea1855d ago

And I am sitting here wondering how the Scorn devs think about diminishing returns with only a 15-20% GPU power difference. Hmmmm

xer01855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

This dude hasn't even shown any game play... Apart from the thought provoking art direction, off the back of HR Geiger and Moebius - this game is looking kinda pointless and boring.

I think MS made a bad decision by purchasing exclusivity on a troubling title and a struggling development studio.

Profchaos1855d ago

The game was pretty troubled a while back it could be the studio is struggling so taking ms money may be the key to getting it out and they can also get a first party deal out of it and that's obviously what they are after

xX-oldboy-Xx1855d ago

Profchaos - Could be they bit off more than they can chew.

Scapton1855d ago

There is gameplay, albeit a very old demo that has apparently been reworked completely - https://www.youtube.com/wat...

In fact the game was originally on Kickstarter and barely scraped its funding goals. - https://www.kickstarter.com...

Kavorklestein1855d ago

I think the game looks intriguing and I have loved Xenomorphs and H.R. Giger since I was like 11 years old.
I don't think MS made a bad decision supporting a project like this. It's artistic and morbid and exciting from what I saw, and I hope it does well.
I think a lot if people would be SO much happier if they focused more on what makes gaming so great and less on the financial, marketing, and sales aspects of the Big 3 companies.
Like unless any of the big 3 were gonna go out of business then why worry about their money?
I'm just hoping next gen as a whole delivers like SONY and MS are saying it will.

Scorn looks like it should be good, it seems like a great idea/setting, so I have my fingers crossed.

Exactly lol the game they showed wasn’t even the actual game and it was running on a pc RTX 2080 lol

ApocalypseShadow1855d ago

The difference is in the developer knowledge and experience. Sony's developers have been making advanced game engines for a long time. And has a larger group of studios that have been sharing ideas in programming for a very long time. I believe they'll be realizing their visions a lot sooner than most in using the SSD efficiently. While not using something like UE5. UE5 is great but a middleware engine Sony helped with so that others can get up to speed and make some high quality games. Wouldn't make sense to leave 3RD parties and Indies out in the cold wondering how to make games.

We'll definitely see something in about a week. Yes sir. Then we can come back to this developer's article and review his comments.

ZeroX98761855d ago (Edited 1855d ago )

What game did this studio do in the past? I have absolutely no clue who this dev is....

Tross1855d ago

That's why they're featured in Gamingbolt says dev articles. It's practically mandatory that they feature relatively obscure devs.

It's quite popular on mobile since there isn't a lot of competition for games of its type that aren't even less engaging and just 'stare at your phone' games. Not to say Immortal is good, but for mobile, it's better than most.
