Gears of War 3 was ported to PS3 in order to test Unreal Engine 3

Yesterday, footage of a supposed PS3 build of Gears of War 3 was uploaded to YouTube. Turns out, it’s real.

don't worry too much, it ran pretty poorly on the PS3. Framerates were horrible at times.

Didnt xbox 360 have alot more ram i thought maybe thats why it runs bad.

No they both had the same amount of ram, it was just that on Xbox 360 it was unified whilst on the PS3 it was split.

Ahh ok i remember microsoft saying Epic cost them 1 billion dollars in ram cost for the xbox 360 because gears of war demanded more ram. The 360 was going to ship with less ram.

Lol. But seriously. I don't know for sure, but I think Gears was probably coming to PlayStation before the buyout of the franchise. Since they shunned the idea of pulling dormant franchises out of their vault like Mech Assault or Crimson Skies, basically it left them with only Halo, Gears and Forza.

Which, in my opinion,would have left Microsoft with two choices, make more in-house games to compensate the loss of Gears, or buy up the franchise. Guess it was easy to just throw money and keep it off PlayStation.

Well I told people this years ago and I was laughed at. I saw bug reports that were misplaced on the Unreal Developers Network. They were actually using Gamespy for the Multiplayer. One thing Epic won't admit is I think this build was also used to coerce Microsoft.

Its like the fact that there were a few Gears of War 2 PC levels available to people with developer access.

I don't remember the exact time i only remember that morgafell talkt about gears been tested for ps3 back at the time , but what time that was and which gears it was i don't remember, i think he is best suited to answer you , if you mean the witch-hunt the worst time was around 2007 till 2009 . you had at that time a lot of pro 360 media such as game trailers , kotaku , .. ’ that changed mostly around 2009 when ps3 begon to have great exclusive starting with uncharted 2 , later on god of war 3 , infamous, last of us , ... And the rest is history

You are absolutely correct. When I say I was laughed at that is putting it mildly. People brought up those posts for years and it wasn't just laughter but out and out hatred. I think some people were secretly afraid it might be true. Of course none of those people have the character to come forward now and acknowledge their mistake. In fact as recently as a few weeks ago I was called a liar and doubtless in reference to my posting concerning gears.

It was a third party ip with purchased exclusivity.
Microsoft bought the ip.. most likely to avoid losing that foothold that helped them in the early 360 days...

And that ruined mass effect because they had to water down the impact of your choices of the previous games. See how much carried over from mass effect 1 to 2 then 3 was a bunch of nonsense because the ps3 version came in and they didnt have part two so they had to water down how much your choices effected the story . Thats why i love the witcher series all my choices from part one to part 3 all got passed down to each game. I didnt play witcher 3 for 4 years because i couldnt find my old witcher 2 save from 2011 because i wanted to carry over all my story progress to the last game.

I actually remember these rumours at the time but no evidence or release. I would have got a PS3 had it been on it. This series made the 360 great

I remember years ago Geoff Keighley mentioned that Gears Of War 3 was going to be released on PS3 most people said that this would never happen. I now know why he said this he obviously saw the PS3 build

Gears 3 looks better then Halo 4. Halo 4 looks basic. Lighting is meh.

Killzone2 is gritty atmospheric game, lighting is on another level, point lights everywhere look crazy good. water quality is high. Weapons.

You have to look at the bigger picture.

Gears 3 prob had the best textures.

KZ2 was killer at the time, blew everything away for sure. I saw a vid last week which featured it though and I was astonished how badly it has aged. And then a game like Mirrors Edge or Uncharted 2 still looks stunning.

Some art styles are timeless and I find that really interesting

@Voodoopower Killzone 2 doesn’t have better models or textures than Halo 4 or Gears 3. Halo 4 arguably has better models than Gears 3 also. Killzone 2 has low res textures that don’t look good up close.

I never said it had better textures.

Some textures are decent for the time, others are lower quality. Most of the killzone engine is spent dealing with tons of lights and quality motion blur. physics, animations.

Halo4 is more about MP and keeping a smooth fps for that.

Gears 3 had better textures then both.

But Uncharted 3 looks better then Gears 3 and is a similar format. Smaller area's with fights.

I just think the atmosphere that KIllzone 2 brought was something many games don't have these days. Heck Dead space is another great game and Alien Isolation has it in droves.

Graphics ain't everything. It's what you do with them:)
