The video game Borderlands 3 was a big sales success when it launched last fall, according to its publisher, 2K, which described it as “a billion-dollar global brand.” That’s why it was shocking to employees at Gearbox, the developer of the game, when the studio’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, told them yesterday that they would not receive the significant royalty bonuses they expected.
A job listing published by the UK studio reveals that its next project will be another entirely new IP.
Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.
Outriders developer People Can Fly's next game has been canceled after its publishing agreement with Take-Two Interactive fell through.
"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."
If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.
Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.
I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
The new Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition has the community in an outrage after promising exclusive access to the new PvE mode for $250 USD.
$250? Do they not know all the other games that already exist or will be made in the future that can do similar?
This is for the hardcore people that have 2500 h in the game. They basically play that one game the whole year.
Oh and those same people are mad as hell at this... what a way to reward fans of your game and annihilate newcomers.
Read a comment earlier calling it a "special monetization operation." I had to chuckle at that.
I'm sick of hearing how much of a scumbag Randy Pitchford is and he needs to be replaced with someone else.
I can't imagine 2K will be pleased with him in the long run too, because I can easily see people boycotting Gearbox games, but unfortunately that will only hurt the employees over Randy, so there needs to be change and Randy needs to go.
I really don't like sharing Kotaku news on here, but I can not let this go unnoticed, it's too much of a dick move to let slide and Jason Schreier is the only credible guy on the site.
So Randy Pitchford is pulling and a Randy Pitchford. He really is one of the true faces of scumbaggery in the games industry.
Reminds me of Bethesda denying bonuses for Obsidian because their Metacritic score was an 84, instead of an 85, even though the actual sales were beyond expectations at the time of that announcement.
There's a reason Sony didn't show his name during the PS4 reveal. He's been a dirtbag for years and he still gets away with it. I'd lose my job, take a day in court and crack the prick.
He's too slimey to be done the legal way
Here we go with this shit...
Once again, dirtbag randy is screwing people over. At least it isn't kids this time.
