So do the PS5 and devs have access to this as well? Or are they going to use a different proprietary middle ware?

OpenGL 4 and Vulkan APIs as well as Sony's own libraries and APIs specific to PS hardware. Direct X functions can be interpreted by OpenGL and Vulkan as evidenced by the GRID Autosport mobile/Switch port.

Why would you want an un-optimized OS to run on your game console over the current optimized OS that is there?

I think it would be pretty cool to be able to make small games on an Xbox.

But then again, i think it would open the door for a lot of exploits. Might not be worth it looking at it from Microsoft's perspective.

I don't know how i would feel about that, is it gonna take anything away from the performance of the regular Xbox mode?

DirectX 12 is a unified solution to make it easy to bring Windows 10 and Xbox Series X consoles together. Making it easier to port games on Microsoft platform, with next gen features.

Those next-gen features have been cooked into DX12 for almost a year now, more for others. Raytracing was specifically added in 2018. VRS last May. This is just marketing.

DX12 has been around for a while and it is getting improvements. you want them to call it DX13?

To be fair, they are forgoing normal versioning methods to add "Ultimate" to it, which is purely marketing.

Not a good idea PC is continually changing and evolving every year I can’t imagine Xbox doing the same unless the plan to bring out a new model every year.

Well new graphics cards are usually every 2 years.. unless you want to include a possible but not always likely refresh in between.

CPUs have only recently started becoming exciting again with Zen 2, Zen 3 (barring delays) due this year and Zen 4 late 2021 or early 2022. And Intel might finally pick up the pace mid/late 2021 or 2022 where things might get even better for them as well as AMD, so good competition at least.

Possible dumb question but does this mean they might be able to properly merge the xbox system onto windows?
