Price is a huge part of what made 360 popular. It owned the middle ground. You had Wii at $299 and PS3 at $599. At $399, 360 had the sweet spot. This gen, PS4 took over the middle ground. Wii U and then Switch on the low end, and Xbox One on the high. Price is going to be the key driver for console sales. So comparisons to 360 don't make much sense until we know the price.

X1 quickly became the middle ground this gen though. I think within about 3 years it was less than the PS4, while PS4 was at full price, or just starting it's marginal price cuts. If it had more appealing games, or was significantly lower because of the power difference, then maybe it would have done better against PS4. MS making a new more powerful console that again cost more than another PS4 which was more powerful than the base, wasn't going to change their fortunes.

For only a short period, maybe. Xbox One X is the high side at base price $499 where Xbox One started off. Next, PS4 Pro at $399. Then PS4 and Xbox One S at $299. Finally, you have Xbox One S All Digital at the low end.

PS4 has owned the middle ground this gen.

Exactly Price was a huge factor in my decision to buy a 360 back in the day even though I wanted a ps3. The PS3 launched in Australia for 1000 but the x360 was 600 odd the difference was quite huge.

And with most games coming out performing better for the 360 I didn't feel like I had a weaker system until Devs started actually grasping how to use the cell processor and we started getting better games hit the PS3 but that was years away.

360 patches are night and day better than ps3 ,there is no need to mention some major games like skyrim, crysis 3 and other games that performs shit on the ps3.
