Starfield isn't coming in 2020, that's for sure.

Smokehouse1608d ago

Why not? Holiday 2020 launch game would make sense. Assuming the 4 years development time was enough. That’s just an e3 announcement and then half a year of marketing and polish away.

AuraAbjure1608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

@Smokehouse why not? Because the team ran into serious issues with their game engine. That team also wishes Todd Howard dedicated more of his time helping them instead of being so busy working on other projects.

porkChop1608d ago

When Todd announced Starfield he specifically said that it was still very far away. Starfield will be 2021-2022. And I can guarantee TES VI will come out in 2024.

Eldyraen1608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

I’d love if it did an Oblivion and released in the Spring after new consoles hit. Probably not this time, but it would be amazing.

If so they could show it at e3 and sort of do a F4 with a quick release (but longer than F4’s wait).

UnholyLight1607d ago

Wouldn't it? I really would like to see Starfield come out sooner than later but first we need to see what this game even is I suppose!!

isarai1608d ago

Quickest turnaround of a studio ive EVER seen, they went from one of the greatest examples of game development in terms of offering a content packed complete (though buggy) experience for a single purchase. To one of the greediest unethical examples of monetization. I am not the least bit excited for anything they have in the works now, f#@k'em

maelstromb1608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

Agreed. Bethesda has taken pleasure in bludgeoning its fanbase with greed, micro-transactions, and half-baked titles for years as if they've been playing a long game of whack-a-mole. The only difference here in reality is that the moles are fed up and either leaving in droves or retaliating like never before. No matter what Bethesda says, they are in dire circumstances and have nearly expended any/all patience they seemed to have left following the consistent series of greed-induced decisions which have made up Fallout 76's development. Personally, I'm done with Bethesda for good. There is not a thing they can do at this point to regain my trust and respect... sad really how the once mighty have fallen. Thank the lord we have devs like CD Projekt Red, 4A, Obsidian and others leading the new charge to fill the vacuum left behind by Bethesda. #RIPBethesda #GoodriddancetoBethesda

Rebel_Scum1608d ago

Jeez melodramatic much? So what if a developer doesn't make the game you want every single release. It's not that big of a deal. Eventually they may release one you do like.

maelstromb1608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

@Rebel_Scum - Wow, that's what you took from what I said? It's not just F76. They ruined the Fallout series of games and have never produced a capable one with the exception of Fallout 3 and Fallout: NV (which wasn't developed by them but Obsidian). F4 was watered down trash, imo. This isn't just about one single game though. It's about a developer which maintains a pattern of releasing half-baked, sub-par games with woefully dated tech which the modding community then patches and develops further into the game it should have been. Only with F76, they took things much too far for a lot of fans through the implementation of greed features like obscenely expensive micro-transactions, not following through on promises (such as the CE canvas bag debacle), through blatant perversion of trust, releasing a broken game, and then having the gall to turn around and release Fallout 1st, an annual scheme to further gouge the small percentage of people who actually still play and do enjoy F76. This is clearly not a dev/publisher that gives a s*** about what it is they're doing otherwise they would knock it the hell off, but instead, they continue to choose what can only be described as pure greed over quality and respect for its fan base.

Call me "melodramatic", but what I'm stating is the truth and it's the many reasons which I've mentioned why people are abandoning Bethesda in unison. So yes, it IS also a big deal b/c they have own the rights to one of my most beloved series of games of all time, and somehow they've found a way to destroy it and suck practically every drop of fun out of it.

Vegamyster1608d ago

maelstromb

Fallout 4's RPG elements story wise wasn't the greatest but it was far from trash as a package, disappointing is a better way to put it but lets no pretend Fallout 3 or New Vegas were deep games, they're probably some of the easiest RPG's to jump into. Fallout 76 was a joke, cash grab and nobody's arguing that, that said the game itself was made by there Austin studio who was originally called Battlecry Studio, they were working on a F2P game before they were acquired, the main studio only helped port art assets if i recall.

The idea that people are not going to support Bethesda because F76 did poorly isn't true, nobody would be shocked if TeS 6 will sell millions on name alone and Starfield will probably be the same thing assuming it looks half decent. Heck Fallout 4 is over 4 years old and on PC right now it has over 10k playing it right now through Steam.

CaptainObvious8781608d ago (Edited 1608d ago )

This times 100.

It was bordering on silly when they used their old game engine for skyrim, it was a joke when they used their 2 decade old engine for FO4, and when they release ES6 on their then 3 decade old engine... I don't even know how to put that into words...

In the space of a year bethesda have become an absolute joke.

The infuriating thing is, though, this year at their e3 conference, there will be idiots in the 100s cheering them on.

Eldyraen1608d ago

Doom Eternal will likely turn them back on the straight and narrow, at least for most fans. The other games we don’t really know much about, but I’m sure we’ll see plenty at e3.

Even if Starfield doesn’t launch in 2020, which is simply put unlikely to happen anyways, they could still show it off though. Possibly for a pretty early release—if they do an Oblivion (less than half a year after the 360 released). Probably not, but they could since large rpgs like it should be often have good legs, plus a definitive edition (even HZD had a “complete” edition when frozen wastes launched). So it’s a safer title to release earlier in a lifecycle than many games might be.

Maybe we could even get to see a new full fledged Wolfenstein shown off again, since Sisters was the equivalent to Old Blood between the two mainline games.

In regards to Rage 2... I beat it twice last year. Once on the One X (just shy of every achievement) and a faster run on PC through game pass. IF they stick with Rage, they need to give you weapons and skills quicker and in a more focused way. 90% of the fun in Rage you’d miss if you didn’t go to the optional Arks before actually progressing the story. Because once you leveled up, it was a blast to just blow stuff up with everything. The open world approach to unlocking everything optionally would have to go. So Unlock them early in a Rage 3, but have them upgrade still through playing normally elsewhere.

Or let it lie and go nee ip again (quake could make a return too though, but it and doom don’t necessarily need to be active at the same time which allows a new ip room to breath).

isarai1608d ago

After seeing what they've done to Wolfenstein Young Blood and even Doom (93) trying to make it online only, i really have zero faith in them at all. And thats not even starting on how they've been treating people on the community side of things what with absurd bans, and such

Eldyraen1607d ago

Maybe.

But most every third party developer has been doing those same things really. FC New Dawn, latest GR, etc from Ubisoft. Activision Blizzard. EA. All have been going down the same path in more and more games imo n recent years.

Just somewhat more disappointing in Bethesda’s case since they were sort of the last ones to do some of it. My biggest qualms with them was trying to monetize mods in their games. Nexus has a donation tab and everything, but it’s nowhere near where the Workshop was headed.

MasterCornholio1608d ago

They fell down and they can't get it up any more.

MadLad1607d ago (Edited 1607d ago )

They have a pill for that.

ssj271608d ago

I heard rumors sony is about to buy Bathesda. That will be huge. I it happens they need to focus and guidance only Sony has archive.. probably use GG engine decima in all their games.. and focus AAA budget and time on certain IP only fallout oblivion doom to be polishedas sony has done lately. Statfield seemed interested IP maybe also that.
And go AA on their others IP or let them try new ideas if worthy or only focus on those best IP. This comoany needs the help and it will be huge if sony buys them.

It will be a huge RPG boost into Sony rosters. And this company will get help to improve their gameplay which is needed imagine GG or santa monica helping oblivion and falouth gameplay wow. A win win situation.

MadLad1607d ago

I'll take things that aren't going to happen for 500, Alex.

ssj271607d ago

How about you check you sin history that ain't funny is it? Repent and stop sin. Read the bible. And be Good

SegaGamer1607d ago

Why are you making things up?

ssj271607d ago

It's a rumor everyone is talking about. Bethesda is in bad shape. They do have huge games coming but lots of rumors of this games being canceled starfield seem to be in production but also may be canceled.
They seem cancel ghostwire Tokyo from the creators of evil within. Which by the way one of the creator got fire and it seem she will be hire by sony to create a new ip.
The fallout problems.
Elder scrolls hasn't even come out this gen. The only ip its king of strong and doing thing ok is doom.

Anyways all this indicates sony if going for Bethesda in general or at least one of their big studios and ips. I jusy Google it and Bethesda net worth is 2.5 billion i am guessing it's what sony has to pay plus the ok from their studios to form part of sony studios. Anyways it's a rumor and i was just pointing it out.

MadLad1607d ago

Check his comment history lol. It's hilarious. Quick answer to your question is "because Sony".

ssj271607d ago

And you sre very normal. You will be the first in line putting a chip when times comes. Keep making fun of the bible.

If the game is crap then yes there will always be negative feedback it comes with the territory. It's called word of mouth or welcome to the internet. Where the truth about a game comes out really fast whether the game is good or crap. If you can't handle the criticism because of a game then why publish the game. Why should people who never criticized or even played the game be punished? Vietnam has some really screwed up laws block Steam because they don't answer us rule. And going on a witch hunt with Steam please. Where's the proof, where's the evidence of this witch hunt. Somebody is butt hurt and has a Vietnamese Karen leading the witch hunt.

Take-Two CEO Doesn’t Think AI Will Reduce Employment or Dev Costs; “Stupidest Thing” He’s Heard

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick doesn't think AI will reduce employment or lower development costs, and calls it "stupidest thing" he's ever heard.

lodossrage1d 18h ago (Edited 1d 18h ago )

They already have AI trained to do coding.......

How he thinks it's stupid is beyond me, Especially since we see it happening in real time.

CS71d 16h ago

Company A has 300 employees and lays of 200 to replace them with AI to release the same quality game.

Company B has 300 employees and keeps all 300 but instead uses AI to release a game with dramatically larger scale, scope, complexity, short dev cycle etc.

Company B would release a dramatically better product by using humans + AI and consumers would buy the better game.

I actually agree with this concept.

Huey_My_D_Long1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

This is key facet. Its how the AI is used. It's actually is impressive as is and really would make an amazing addition to alot of people in their jobs, not just tech. It also has the potential for businesses to use to lay off large amounts of people, as much as they could to save money on labor. I hope too many companies don't go with the latter. But since usually companies are worried about bottom line over people...we will see some try and hopefully fail. But yeah, if its to help workers like in your company B scenario I'm totally down...Just scared Company A may be too enticing to some ceos and businesses.

Darkegg1d 15h ago

Value of AI and value of humans will both be increased with human-AI complex. Each, by themselves, will not be independently better than the other. Whether AI will ever be independent from humans is the fear question of humans, ironically because of our doing. At this stage, most of the doing is because of humans, not because of AI. AI is doing exactly that by our design, until we have failed ourselves with an AI development that went awry. The biggest take is that humans have only ourselves to blame when things become wrong, and we have to decide what is the ultimate goal with AI we want to accomplish. It would take a person with high morals and high ethics to make right of AI. I would not want businessman to decide what AI should do or what capabilities it can have. AI should be in the hands of people with high moral fiber, or those operating on love, kindness, and compassion.

BlackOni1d 14h ago

AI is SUPPOSED to be used as a tool, not a replacement. It's designed to do two important things artists can take advantage of immediately.

- Make the ideation/reference imaging process much quicker and easier (basically using it as a google search)
- Make mundane and time consuming tasks faster and easier so more time is spent on creation.

Unfortunately, what many have done is used it as a way to replace rather than supplement.

Einhander19721d 12h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

CS7

In the ideal world yes.

In the real world where companies have shown little desire to innovate and spent every effort to maximize profits the end result will be the same quality games (if were lucky) made by less people and more AI.

Company Real World: Fires 200 people and makes the same game cheaper using AI and the executives get record bonuses.

Edit:

Lets look at history, specifically auto manufacturing.

In the 70's and 80's the auto unions tried to oppose automation of jobs (robots) stating that they would take peoples jobs. And the people in charge who wanted to make more money said the exact same types of things that are being said about AI. But we can look at history and see that countless types of jobs were in fact replaced by automation, that was of course even compounded upon by computers.

The net effect was that the rich got richer less jobs were needed so wages were forced down by competition for the jobs that were left.

hombreacabado17h ago

that concept works in the initial beginning phase of AI but once AI learns and surpasses the knowledge and coding expertise of even the best human employee than this CEO will no longer need competent humans in that line of work.

Extermin8or3_15h ago

@Hue_My£D_Long

Yes but that is a choice then by massively increased productivity and this greater income and wealth and stagnating with similar levels of productivity and output and not creating much wealth. Usually the option that creates wealth prevails because a rising tide raises all ships.

You can already make your own SFX with text prompts now as well, of course it will lower development cost and time

1Victor1d 15h ago (Edited 1d 15h ago )

WARNING WARNING ‼️ SARCASM AHEAD
Sure Strauss and robots didn’t take jobs from car factories.
Edit:Sad thing is he believes it and unfortunately he won’t be replaced for a long time by AI

senorfartcushion1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

He doesn't, he's just lying. These people lay people off so they can get bonuses. If AI takes jobs, their bonus goes bigger and the workforce goes smaller.

porkChop1d 12h ago

Because he sees AI as a tool to aid development. He wants to use AI to help make bigger and better games in the same timeframe. Other CEOs want to replace devs with AI to cut costs and make lifeless games faster for a quick buck. Strauss has the right idea, this is how AI should be used. To extend and expand the capabilities of devs.

neutralgamer199216h ago

There will be few companies who will go overboard and try to replace their employees with AI tech. The ones that will make the most money will be the ones that utilize ai, along with their employee talent, to make the best product possible

AI could handle some of the most time consuming processes. To expediate the development, so in return, costing the publisher's last money end time.

Extermin8or3_16h ago

Not reliably they haven't. Coding done by ai is generally abysmal for all but the most generic tasks.

As Fallout76 Crosses 20Million Gamers Amid Success of TVSeries, Todd Howard Talks Franchise’s Future

“Fallout 76″ has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.

Obscure_Observer2d ago

Impressive!

Hopefully Fallout 5 will be among next gen Xbox´s launching games.

-Foxtrot2d ago

Yeah will be great. Can’t wait for it on the PS6.

Notellin1d 20h ago

Will probably be decent on the HP Omen Xbox but not so sure about the Dell Alienware Xbox though. But I have high hopes for the Asus ROG Ally Xbox Edition running this game at a stable 60.

thesoftware7301d 16h ago

Fox,
I'm sure MS can't wait either; all that money they will make.

Everyone wins.
Play it on Xbox, play it on PS, play it on your cell phone, play it on PC, shit, maybe even on Nintendo.
ALL=$$$$ for Microsoft corp, literally all these companies care about.

Though it would be nice i think tod with his team should stay away from it let someone else take the helm like fallout new vegas.

I also hope after all these success they do not make fallout 76 number 2 sense 76 is the most profitable game they made in the series thanks to monthly subs. Then you got the billion + they made on elder scrolls online.

First thing first is the new elder scrolls title they been working on and we got more updates for starfield to come out but one has recently added a new feature called interactive maps you can see icons along with paths now true next gen.....

So yeah with starfield being there "years" of dev time biggest budget/team size do you trust them with the next fallout title?

MrDead1d 21h ago

The next fallout will be on all systems as Xbox is their smallest market. You don't restrict your flagship games to one of the worlds smallest and shrinking platform.
Bethesda still needs PC and PS as we've learnt from recent layoffs thanks to Microsoft's greed in trying to ban multiplatform publisher's from their biggest console platform.

Obscure_Observer1d 11h ago

Whatever happened to your claims that MS should be boycotted and ultimately destroyed due its greed and monopolistic goals?

You said that the only reason MS released Starfield on PC is because its a new IP, otherwise it would an Xbox exclusive game, as MS ultimate goal is to remove games from players, right?

Now you come to realize that all of your smearing campaign along with all of your doom and gloom prophecies was for nothing!

You don´t really care about MS being destroyed as long Playstation gets some Xbox games.

The moment you find out that neither TES VI and Fallout 5 will be making it´s way to Playstation anything soon, you will be right back where you were a few months ago, shoehorning how MS must (again) be destroyed. Smh.

"Bethesda still needs PC and PS as we've learnt from recent layoffs thanks to Microsoft's greed in trying to ban multiplatform publisher's from their biggest console platform."

Last time I checked, Tango, which released Hi-Fi Rush on both PC and PS5 got shut down while Bethesda (Starfield) do not.

Yes, MS is greed. Yes they do care about the money above most things like every company does.

But just like Sony, they´ll not put their flagship titles on Playstation while damaging their own consoles in the process. I though both Phil and Sarah were clear about that subject when they confirmed that a next gen Xbox console is in development.

That said, the thing that most people don´t realize with all that port begging nonsense, is that Xbox releasing all of its flagships games on Playstation will do nothing but hurt the Playstation brand in the end.

Let me explain:

First - If all games from Xbox land on Playstation, what real interest Sony will have to continue and invest in innovative and multi hundred million dollar single player games that they´re known for? None! I mean, why would Sony take risks when the competitor is doing it in their place?

In the end, Sony will just rest on their laurels by allowing Playstation to be carried by third party publishers and ultimately, Playstation´s premiere first party games will be no more.

Second - After the recent events, you know now how far Sony is willing to go to get that MAU from Steam gamers, they literally banned Steam gamers from 120 countries and regions for it. In Microsoft´s case, you also know they will demand Playstation players to connect to a MS account to play Xbox games, which favors no other but MS itself, because they´ll be "stealing" gamers from the Playstation´s player base, via the ultimate "Trojan Horse".

As a wise man said: "Be careful what you wish for"

Mr_cheese1d ago

Oh Obscure, the irony in what you're saying is crazy.

RaidenBlack18h ago

Obsidian can still save the reputation with a banger spin off Fallout title whilst Bethesda concentrates finishing TES VI.
Only drawback is Obsidian will have to halt the Outer Worlds 2 development.

shinoff21833h ago
