From PSU: "Black Desert is a massive MMO. Pearl Abyss has tried their hardest to bring over the massive title over to consoles and succeeded for the most part. This influx in console MMO’s makes it difficult to decide which one to stick with. Black Desert is unique in that it not only allows you to enjoy an MMO without a monthly subscription, its one that doesn’t require you to play with groups to truly enjoy it"
Today Pearl Abyss hosted its traditional Calpheon Ball news livestream, and the developer of Black Desert certainly had a lot to share.
I'm shocked it's coming to the Xbox consoles, just seems a waste or money and time for little in return.
Well, you shouldn't. Black Desert is already available on the Xbox One, and thanks to Microsoft's streamlined game SKU management, it's highly probable that the developers simply have to press a button to make it a native port. The one that will need more time and money is the Playstation version, that will likely need a completely new SKU for the native version to work.
@gold_drake
Only the reality, unfortunately. Sony did an excellent job on the PS5 software, but they didn't put the same effort into the PSN. The way the system handles licenses is terrible.
New pricing changes to PlayStation Plus 12-Month plans.
"starting September 6 we will be increasing the price for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscriptions globally across all benefit plans. This price adjustment will enable us to continue bringing high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription service."
Here are the new prices for PlayStation Plus 12-month subscription plans.
PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
134.99 USD | 125,99 Euro | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription
159.99 USD | 151,99 Euro | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen
Insane price hikes I guess they have to make their money back from the hardware price cuts from somewhere.
I wonder why MS raised their gamepass prices too. They didnt even give us a console price drop.
Big increases. Interesting they're only changing the annual not monthly.
Still a lot cheaper than GamePass but the difference isn't as stark anymore...
Game Pass annual - $60
Base version of PS Plus - $80
"Still a lot cheaper than GamePass"?
@Christopher
No, its base gamepass when compared to PS Plus Essential.
If we're talking about GamePass ultimate, then the fair comparison would be the top tier of PS Plus, which is now more expensive than Ultimate.
@olMyerslo
Yes Plus is still way cheaper than Gamepass.
Check the current pricing.
I was shocked so your saying that they didn’t change the monthly? That what plan I picked for PA Plus Premium.
This is the result of no real competition. Sony can increase their prices all they want because they know their gamers will pay those new prices.
BTW, Sony fanboys were making fun of Microsoft's increased prices... I wonder how they feel now.
Well the competition (MS) is already way pricier, if that's what you mean by no competition. Sony obviously has competition so I don't know what you mean
We have no choice. Can't play games like Diablo IV without PS Plus. If it weren't for that and having to access saves in cloud storage I wouldn't even bother.
Gamepass in general is bad. In a future where subscription based service only exist the annual will need to be $300+ a year to keep triple A games relevant. It’s killing Triple A. Devs aren’t gonna make great games to sell gamers to pay premium when services are paying their dev cost just to make a quick profit. Disgusting.
"Sony said for current 12-month subscribers, this price increase will not take effect until your next renewal date that occurs on or after November 6. However, any membership changes you make on or after September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update your plan reflecting the new prices."
Anyone who already has a 12mo plan that is not set to expire until after these dates can extend their time before the deadline for just $99. Mine expires next year in January but I can add another year to it if I buy by 9/5.
Rip off especially in a cost of living crisis how do Sony justify this.. giving us saints row one of the worse rated games haha
As a bit of Playstation fan since the PS1, Sony has been making questionable decisions for a while now. The PS4 the hit it put the park and smashed the last generation but as time goes on, it's starting to feel like the arrogant, "we're untouchable" Sony is coming back.
I'll always favor Sony even if I own both consoles but I hope Xbox finally pulls its socks up and brings some competition again.
@KyRo "The PS4 the hit it put the park"
I'm sorry but I got an aneurysm trying to understand you.
Disgusting.
Seems like only yesterday that they just increased it and yet here we are again.
Yeah that's why I want Microsoft to do well even though I am a Sony guy.. it pains me to see Microsoft keep failing with there bad management and lack of innovation.. Sony are getting too confident and with absolute no competition they are starting to take the piss and its all about the money and not the games.. only GAAS bullshit
Oof. Unfortunately the benchmark is set by Microsoft and Game Pass Ultimate still costs a lot more than PS+ Premium. $80/year is asking a lot to be able to play on-line. All on-line gaming should be free on both consoles. My current plan runs out in 2025 [Edit, 2026] so that’s when I’ll get hit.
That's a pretty large price increase there. Kind of hoping this tells people how expensive subscription gaming will be if it continues to centralize in such a manner. More Game More Costs.
It should also make people consider what can happen if subs weaken or eliminate other options. These increases would be less of an issue, and possibly something Sony wouldn't have attempted, if there was still the ability to play online without a subscription. They are leveraging the elimination of that option to implement these price increases.
Agreed, it feels like a market correction of sorts.
But I really think they would have been better off dropping the quality of the essential games and leaving the price the same. That's gonna tick some people off
Well I'm not renewing anytime soon, holy crap! sucks that it literally JUST ran out yesterday. Actually been wanting to try all of these
Sony is going back to the PS3 days and Jim Ryan have a lot to do with that 😂
Who the hell buy subs at full price, been getting discounts since day one except that auto charge time.
The problem with this is Sony isn't adding any value to justify these price increases. From what I'm seeing no improvements are being made.
We could at least justify these increases if Sony would possibly add day and date for their first party games to a higher tier. But all I'm seeing are games that have been on Game Pass already and then Saints Row which I heard wasn't even that awful but definitely wasn't as good as the past games.
Less than 7$/mofor essential up to 12-13$/mo for premium at full price isn’t too bad imo. But you can find sales every year. I’m subbed to premium until 2028 and I’ll look for sales before it’s up. I have never paid retail besides maybe the first however many months when it came out during the PS3 days. If I don’t find any sales I may just let it run out until I want to play MP which isn’t often. I don’t need plus I just get it because I can. I mainly play single player games and want to own them so I’m good either way. I do like cloud saves though.
At least there's a bit of a delay for current subscribers:
"For current 12-month subscribers, this price increase will not take effect until your next renewal date that occurs on or after November 6. However, any membership changes you make on or after September 6, such as upgrades, downgrades or buying additional time, will update your plan reflecting the new prices. You can change or cancel your subscription at any time, details"
It’s just weird timing and kind of out of no where, especially considering Extra and Premium literally use launched what just a year ago and already upping in price.
I could see if it was essentials only, and it jumped to $69.99 with the promise of higher quality new release games and the addition of 1 PSVR game, but $20 is just a weird increase, and with no information on the addition on the higher tiers it just leaves a sour taste.
I generally stack all my subscriptions anyway so I’m still 2+ years out, so I’ll buy up some enough PS+ to not have to worry about for years to come, but crummy.
This is the first time in a while it’s just been a hard negative for me with them. I get it, they’re in a content spending war with MS and others, and they don’t have the instant revenue, but if you make a drastic change you need to make a reason for it, and if anything have the value addition there DAY 1, like VR games, PS3 games remastered natively for PS5, etc…
So Xbox drops Gold after giving you stinkers for games for the last few years. PS keeps the quality but raises the price in response. I'd like to see a cheap option that includes just online features and no games for people that don't want to pay more.
€72 for a years essential! Absolute dirtbag move here! These aren't minor price hikes they are massive differences.
Yeah, this pricing is awful.
- Extra is getting €26 price hike (€99.99 -> €125.99)
- Premium is getting a €32 price hike - €152 for Premium is a joke. They've been putting classic games on the store at a snail's pace too. Jesus.
To other PS fans here, please don't defend this, guys. This needs a huge backlash.
I’d actually support it if they actually spent money from the billions that they earn per quarter from their loyal fans and acquired a major publisher like Microsoft did where they would receive beloved legacy IP that their current studios will never match.
A square enix or capcom would soften this move a lot. They could implement Final Fantasy into PS Stars and other media.
@adonis I don't get how PS buying Capcom would help you as a consumer. That Sony would start making Street Fighter movies? No thanks
Yeah, I feel like they have should of gone up ten bucks instead of 20 bucks for PPE in US .
Awesome hope this leads to more gamers jumping ship and joining the Xbox family and jumping into gamepass. Sony has become too full of themselves again and need to be giving a nice knock off their high horse.
Xbox had a 2 dollar monthly increase recently which is a bigger increase over the Sony Hike. So not really a market leader move.
So price increases so consumers move from a $135/yr PS extra plan to a $204/yr plan GP Ultimate plan? That doesn't make sense.
What I hope is that customers realize this subscription model ultimately sucks and they're better off making choices on which games they should buy. You don't need Sony or Microsoft making those decisions.
when it comes out how much of a joke starfield is I can't wait to see the justification.
Lol you already made up your mind about Starfield without playing it. You're not a gamer. You're pathetic.
Just looking at this months essential games, I don't see the value. I am, and going to stay single player enjoyer on the PS. Prices are ridiculous.
Same. $20 hike for multiplayer is insane. Definitely letting my sub lapse. And sticking to single player only. I will not be trying to 'stack' as much years of essential as I can. I shouldn't have to unexpectedly splurge money all at once to avoid having to pay an unnecessary huge price hike for a couple of years. Barely play multiplayer at all anymore. The free games and hope that a multiplayer game that would eventually get my interest would come were the only reasons why I kept renewing, but this $20 increase doesn't justify it, not that the current price did anyway. Multiplayer should not be behind pay wall in the first place. This is why I hate subscription services to begin with. It's already gotten out of hand with tv services. Gaming is getting there now.
Yes, perfect. I hope more follow suit.
Charge us some small amount for online ($30/yr?) and let us buy our games again
Increase the price and lure them in with Saint Row!
Who the hell thought that was a good idea
Well, I'm not a fan of price hikes and it was expected when MS raised their price recently so I'll wait for the usual Black Friday deal to pass judgment.
In the past, Sony always offered a huge discount on annual plans for Black Friday so let's see how this year turns out.
But a word of advice for Sony, the actual economic situation is hitting hard on people's budgets with ppl trying to save money.
Meanwhile Xbox dropping potentially the biggest rpg weve seen in a while, Jim Ryans heads in the clouds.
There’s 1000 Planets with 10% populated. Do your basic math before you comment.
Probably my last gen gaming. Getting close to 40 and this hobby is just getting more expensive by the year.
Not really. Adjusted for inflation, gaming is cheaper than ever. If I take the family out to a movie, it costs $60. Even lunch at Subway costs $8-10. A game like Halo: CE used to cost 20 Subway sandwiches but now a game like Halo Infinite only costs 6 Subway sandwiches.
Right there with you. There is are lifetimes of games out there already. I have so many games I've bought and have yet to play already. Not counting what I have from collecting on Epic Games, Steam, PS+ (if I continue to pay the subscription), I could play for Years.
The way gaming is going, I'm not really happy about. I could buy used games til the end of time and be satisfied. I really don't think I'll buy the next generation.
I feel ya. I have all the consoles and I think this is last gen I buy them all. It’s not even a money thing for me anymore. I’m over 35 and I don’t have time to play all these games anymore. I canceled ps+ few months ago. I don’t play online games. I still sub to gamepass but even then I’m not sure it’s totally worth it. Starfield will probably carry me into next spring to be honest and nothing first party coming to PS that interest me.
Both systems have felt like a let down this gen.
Like every form of businesses, inc Microsoft, price increases. Not surprising. Welcome to the real world people. Time to end or change subscriptions to save money.
I just used essential to play online , I could care less for the monthly games so if they're gonna charge me more for something I don't use I won't use Ps+ after my sub expires . They just raised the price last year and again this year , that's like 50% more in one year . Crap like this is why most people don't have cable tv nowadays , keep adding things I don't want and raising prices.
https://www.shopto.net/en/d...
Get your year for £43 NOW IN UK before this happens.
These PS+ games are a mixed bag. Saints Row is a the kind of AAA game people ask for but clearly it’s here because it was commercial failure and the publisher wants more players to purchase DLC. I’d rather have a AA or indie games that I am excited to play.
Didn't saints row just have an absolutely massive patch / dlc. Or is that still to come.
Bigger badder and bossier it's called was unveiled at gamescon a few days ago?.
Here is to me buying another year before sept 6 but subscription tv and gaming prices getting insane. I wait for black friday deals for streaming.
Raising the price for shovelware and multiplayer for live service games that already milk you is crazy. Just give me my single player adventure and rpg games.
I sure love modern gaming.
Pay for this, pay for that, also pay for this and that. Pay this to get that. Now that you've done all that paying, have a 33-35% price increase. It's for value, trust me. Value to you? God no, where did you get a ludicrous idea like that?
Pay more, for less. Pay more to get what we decide to drip feed you. Pay, pay, pay.
I've been focusing so much more of my time on older games, from WWF No Mercy to Mirror's Edge on PS3, to recent fan translations of Sega Saturn RPGs.
Flashcart, ODEs, or emulation has enough games to play for the rest of your life. Modern gaming is losing me at a rapid pace, so look to the past for a better gaming future.
oooff those price increases tho.
32 more for my premium year is alot.
lmao on the eve of Starfield releasing on gamepass.. Sony ups the price and gives it's gamers Saints Row to compete.
This price hike looks atrocious, I won't lie. Just spit balling here, but what would you all think if they were to announce that all upcoming 1st party Gaas games are included with extra and premium? I think that would make ps plus #s spike. Maybe that is why we haven't heard anything about helldivers 2 release date? Just a theory.
Some of us dont give two fks about their online multiplayer games. They can shelf that sh far as I'm concerned. I'm a Sony fan due to single player games and rpgs. Their getting away from that very successful formula.
I don't play online and haven't paid for years. Subscriptions are guaranteed to go up every time. Flash sales and monthly sales negated my need for it which was my main reason: discounts.
Keep feeding these monsters and they will get hungrier. Which is why I play single player and only local multiplayer with family. Saves me money. And I never needed monthly games when I only played the ones I bought almost 100 percent of the time.
Just a note to anyone interested in Generation Zero it's a really good survival type game. It's getting a 60fps patch sometime this year for ps5.
Man it's so hard to continue with PS plus. Personally the only thing I play online is GT7, and anyone who plays that knows that PD frustratingly neglect it when it comes to quality of life, basic updates. The Daily Race format hasn't been updated properly in years....just GT4 and GT3 cars on the same preset tracks. No night time or rain races....just dull.
What a strange timing to release this news.
Few days before the competitor drops their biggest game, and on a month that they are offering weaker PS Plus games. And after Project Q getting some negative press for offering not enough functionalities (can't do premium streaming and can't use Bluetooth). Does the marketing team just roll a dice to decide on when to release what news?
Am I happy about this price hike, no, but I will still support it because it is my platform of choice.
Scummy move especially considering the garbage they’re releasing and the state of PSN on PS5. Maybe consider making sure your shit is together before making a fool of yourself with a price hike this size.
Yea console sales are high but the PSN service is a complete joke and has been for a long time now. Way to lose faith and customers. Good job Sony!
Guess they saw the $1 and $2 price increases on Game Pass and realized to needed to top it?
Haha as of typing, 427 comments on the official Sony blog. 426 negative comments then 1 positive from that loser creep Hassanbrobre the little weirdo. Anyone that visits the Sony blog knows who he is. Such a creep. He makes my skin crawl.
I dont know why people bringing up Gamepass like gamepass not giving you more value for your $$$ with day 1 first party and even third party games.
Bethesda and ABK games, hell even sony first party MLB The Show is on GP not PS+ is crazy.
Exactly.
GamePass is miles better value and with PS Plus now becoming more expensive than GamePass whilst the quality of games offered continues to decline, well...not a good look.
September 6 is a weird date. Literally Starfield's official release date and Baldur Gate 3's release on PS. There are always deals online you can search for. Look for those. Slickdeals is a good twitter (x) to follow. Cheapass Gamer too.
Everything becomes expensive. There's no way back it becomes cheaper in the future, only discounts when it comes. I still use PS Essentials which is enough for me. I don't mind a 1 euro increase per month. I still don't get why everyone's surprised about price increases for gaming. Food, gas, electricity, rent, water,... what about that? Still cheap as 15 years ago? The only thing that is ridiculously priced, is a house.
Sony Fanboys accept anything Sony gives them so I’m not surprised about the price increase. PlayStation Portal is a scam as well. Can’t even use Pulse headphones with it, can’t use Sony’s own game streaming service with it smh…when will you people stop fanboying for these trash companies and fight back with your wallet. Yeah yeah yeah MS this and that but this is not about MS and trust me I get on them to when they do scummy moves…
No one is accepting everything Sony gives us, PlayStation Portal is not that good, so many of us won't buy it, it is not like it will get 1:1 attach rate. I think Xbox Fanboys talking about "Fanboys accept anything" is a bit ironic.
The price hike is too much as well, I will see their next phase after Spiderman 2 to see if I will continue to subscribe to it. But so far I am getting my money worth, will re-evaluate when my subscription expire next Aug.
Are you serious? Really, are you serious?
Ignoring the other companies entirely and their practices, correct me if I'm wrong but...
Didn't backlash get Sony to reverse decision on Horizon Forbidden West?
Didn't backlash get Sony to address their GT7 nonsense?
Do you think PlayStation games are great quality because Sony wants to put effort into their titles, or do you think their consumers are fully content with not supporting a game if it's not great? I'm pretty sure that's why we've yet to hear about Factions much: it's not in a presentable state.
Sony does some pretty shitty things. Ryan's era is frankly my least enjoyable one. That said, no, I don't think PlayStation gamers are willing to just accept anything. Portal is very unlikely to be successful. But as far as where they really did great, the PS5 tech is excellent and the DualSense is a damn fine controller. They're clearly being pushed to do more and do better.
I would say there's going to be an evident drop in subs. Shoot on over to X, and you tell me what people are willing to accept.
Time will tell if PlayStation gamers will accept this or not. I for one will not be renewing my sub. Premium wasn’t worth it as it was and it’s definitely not worth it now with the price hike. Let’s wait and see how this goes but I’m already seeing a lot of Sony fanboys deflecting this price hike and somehow blaming MS smh…
SPEAKxTHExTRUTH,
I can see an argument for that. There were actually cases where PlayStation gamers looked at Xbox increasing their prices and were worried Sony would follow.
Sony has a habit of letting Microsoft test bad ideas before they also implement them, so I can see where that framing comes from. At the end of the day, Sony is the one responsible. I'm pretty confident there's going to be a drop in subs. The question is, will the drop in subs be offset by the price hikes?
Unlikely.
Sony increase the price of PS+ because of ..... Starfield!!!!! By increasing the price, Sony (Mr. Ryan) think more customer will not buy/download Starfield, instead to enjoy the........ whatever from PS5.
Damn yeah i'm no longer subbing, i'm sharing my sub with 3 people anyway lmao suck it sony
I've always been a PlayStation gamer and had a PS Premium subscription from the start, but for the last two months since I got my Steam Deck, I've mostly used my PlayStation for streaming services. So given these new prices and the lack of interesting retro games that make Premium worthwhile, I really see no reason to renew it.
I will probably try saints row just out of curiosity
Surely for free the open world has to be somewhat worth it
......right?
Black dessert I hope to try, always thought it looked cool
And generation zero is one I've had my eye on a long time ago, just never knew it was on ps
So this should be fun
Okay for me personally, it is how much time I spend playing games from PPP . Well I bought a year of PPP on Jan 1 23 , and I have spent well over a hundred and fifty hours playing games from PPP this year with 4 months left . So for me it was worth the 120 bucks USA . I played games that are arcade type and indie games that I probably would have never known about them thanks to PPP . So the 40 dollar jump in price for PPP is still worth it . Usually when I want to play a new release triple AAA game I usually buy it on release to support the developers. I am still a big fan of buying games that I really want to play.
Although I will have to work some extra hours this holiday to renew my PPP on January 1st ,2024.
Today Pearl Abyss hosted its Black Desert Festa event in Korea, and plenty of news was shared about the popular MMORPG Black Desert Online.
