Neonridr1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

There you go, for all of you that only wanted a handheld only.

AND a normal D-pad too!

bouzebbal1767d ago

Wtf... What is switch abt this now???

Neonridr1767d ago

It's a handheld version for those who don't want to dock it. Obviously they aren't going to give it an entirely new name.

UltraNova1767d ago

It was always their intention, now its fully materialized.

Next up is the beefier Switch equipped with a Tegra X2.

bouzebbal1767d ago

I don't get how it is easier to transport?? It's same size, and u need a couple cons to play with friends.. Not practical at all

darthv721767d ago

Its an option. Is that a bad thing?

TheFirstClassic1767d ago

It's not the same size, it's smaller. Still p big tho

darthv721767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

with the controllers directly hard wired then there would be no wifi sync or input lag. some had issues with joycons losing connection even when attached to the unit.

My question is how much longer before a pro version? Now we know MS and Sony have base models, slims and enhanced systems. nintendo has a base model, a lite so when is the enhanced switch coming out?

bloop1767d ago

It's the Nintendo Switchoh Righteroh. Different to the Nintendo Switcheroh.

Cobra9511766d ago

@bouzebbal: It's smaller, with a 5.5" screen. So, a standard smartphone screen (e.g., Google Pixel XL) plus the integrated controllers.

lazyboyblue1766d ago (Edited 1766d ago )

@bouzebbal Well the price has Switched downward some.

DerfDerf1766d ago

I agree, The Switch name is now irrelevant when it comes to this model.

Ive been saying since launch that the Switch is a handheld, one that can dock to the TV. The haters always said it's a home console. Well then please explain this. Lol.

Neonridr1767d ago

huh? That sounds backwards Eddie

DarXyde1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

It means a lot to you to be validated, huh?

Hypothetically... if a more powerful console focused version was released, wouldn't that mean no one was right but no one was wrong?

bouzebbal1767d ago

Wonder what you would have said if they didn't announce a handheld only version.. Oh wait... I have an idea Haha

Angyobangyo1767d ago

Nothing to explain, maybe you can't read. The Switch is a hybrid, so yes it operates like a regular console when docked genius and a handheld system undocked. This is why instructions exist for the feeble minded.

Imalwaysright1767d ago

And yet to me is no different than any other home console I owned since the SNES/Megadrive era.

yomfweeee1767d ago

If anything, this proves you were wrong. Switch is not just a handheld. Switch Lite is just a handheld.

1767d ago
spicelicka1767d ago

Uhhhh the explanation is simple. Switch is a home console/handheld, and Switch Lite is a handheld. Congrats you win nothing.

CorndogBurglar1767d ago

1. If anything this proves your comment wrong. The Switch is a console/handheld hybrid. For instance, I've had mine docked since I bought it. To me it's another console.

This is a handheld.

2. Why would "haters" call it a console? Wouldn't Switch owners want it to be a console? The ones calling it a handheld are generally the haters...

rainslacker1767d ago

Weird, I thought haters always said it was a portable, and it was Nintendo fans who said it was a hybrid, and innovative, and it was put out to compete directly with MS/Sony, and that somehow, it could handle all current and next gen games, and it was a next gen system, so on and so forth.

Hungryalpaca1767d ago

You’re not very smart are you...

SierraGuy1766d ago

The guy holding the yellow one looks like a banana.

ShadowWolf7121766d ago

Eddie, I seem to recall SEVERAL arguments you've been in which people insisted the Switch was a handheld, not a console, and you argued the opposite, that it was a console that you could detach and take on the go.

Now you're insisting you've always said the opposite.

I really can't decide which one has more or better young trendy people trying to look overly excited and having fun as if technology is something completely new to them

blackblades1766d ago

If I ever get a switch I'll probably still get the original just for the option to dock or handheld.

porkChop1767d ago

It's strictly handheld. Can't be docked at all, no tabletop mode either. No HD Rumble or IR camera. I get that it's $100 cheaper, but you'd be sacrificing a lot for that $100.

LOGICWINS1767d ago

I'll stick with my original Switch, but it's great for people who are on a budget.

Laskin1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

I strongly disagree... when switch pro or whatever they’ll call it comes out next year, they’ll be able to buy the original for about the same price, i’d wait instead of buying such a downgrade

1767d ago
Vits1767d ago

Indeed.
It's the cheaper way to get a "Switch", but by doing so you are losing a lot of good features from the original console. Personally I would prefer if they simple sold a version of the original console, but without the dock and with Joy-cons tha don't feature those sensors. The consumer would get more or less the same device and the savings would be almost the same, but there would still be the option to easy "upgrade" for the original experience.

badz1491767d ago

so...just like that, not even 3 years in and they already made unplayable? aren't games like 1-2 Switch and Arms use the motion control in the joycons to be played?

TK-661767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

"so...just like that, not even 3 years in and they already made unplayable?"

If the most you have to complain about this is that 1-2 Switch can't be played then I question your taste in games. Arms can be played without motion controls just like most Nintendo games.

Gemmol1767d ago

arms use regular buttons also

Cobra9511766d ago

Watch the video. You can use joycons with the Lite for games like those.

badz1491766d ago

@Cobra951

I've watched it. it just says that those games that specifically use the joycons will not be playable UNLESS you buy a separate set of joycons. which means, out of the box, this lite version can't play them.

TK-661766d ago

"it just says that those games that specifically use the joycons will not be playable UNLESS you buy a separate set of joycons."

Would you like to name those games?

badz1491766d ago

@TK-66

"Would you like to name those games?"

aside from 1-2 Switch, I don't think I want to because the Switch has no games. I say this because even Nintendo struggles to convince non-Nintendo fanboys that there are other games on the Switch aside from BoTW, Mario Odyssey & MK8D because those are the only games they have been using in their commercials even in the 3rd year after release LOL

“I get that it's $100 cheaper, but you'd be sacrificing a lot for that $100.“

That’s the whole point of it. The Switch Pro will be for those who want all the features and some improvements along the way.

CBaoth1767d ago

don't see a Switch Pro happening, at all. Nintendo hasn't cared about power since the Gamecube. Why would anyone think they're going to do a 180 and launch a more expensive variant? They already have a hybrid concept solution and the world's most powerful handheld in tow. A souped up Switch isn't gonna make a difference when the next gen twins release.

Jin_Sakai1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

“don't see a Switch Pro happening, at all. Nintendo hasn't cared about power since the Gamecube“

Ever heard of the new 3DS? Bigger, faster, and improved battery life.

I’m not just talking about power. There’s room for other improvements such as reducing the huge bezels, longer battery life, and slightly upgraded hardware.

DaDrunkenJester1767d ago

Plus, if you want to play ARMS or Mario Party youd need to buy a set of joycons which is like $70, so there goes your $100 you saved. This seems silly to me.

1766d ago
Benjaminkno1767d ago

Yea I don’t understand why they wouldn’t release one that could be docked.

It’s not really a Switch, it’s just Nintendo Lite

Tross1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

Yeah, this isn't for me. However, it's not like Nintendo doesn't have a history of releasing more budget versions of their systems. Case in point, the 2DS was a thing and I think it was successful. Moreover, this looks like it is better optimized for handheld gaming with its better battery life, so for people who want a Switch for that aspect I can see this doing alright. While tabletop mode isn't a thing either, not having detachable joycons means having less components to concern oneself with.

This would play more like a traditional handheld that can sync up with other Switches for a more traditional handheld-type multiplayer experience, although singleplayer gamers are clearly the market here. Looks like Nintendo is continuing another marketing gimmick by having it in multiple colours too (no red or black options though?). I'm going to assume children and more casual gamers who don't want to overspend on a system and aren't concerned about the missing features are the intended audience here. That or people who insist that the portable aspect is the Switch's best asset.

0hMyGandhi1767d ago

It also doesn't incude the joy-cons. So to get this plus the Joycons, you end up saving a whopping 30 dollars.

jaycptza1767d ago

HD Rumble what an un-necessary feature, glad that was cut

porkChop1766d ago

What? HD Rumble is basically advanced haptic feedback, which is far more accurate and useful than rumble. Rather than just a vibration, it can be used to simulate how things feel. It's not unnecessary, and next gen systems will likely be using some form of advanced haptic feedback.

Rynxie1767d ago

Cool, now only if it had games that interests me to go with it. I was thinking about getting it, but no game to go with it popped into my head. Besides Pokemon and Mario there's nothing else I would play on it.

Neonridr1767d ago

shame, tons of great content.

Rynxie1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

Not really. Splatoon, not for me. Zelda, don't care for Zelda. Smash Bros, don't care for that either. Any third party game, I would just rather get on the ps4 as it will be a much better version.

Don't Nintendo owners say the only thing that matters is Nintendo first party games? Clearly you guys admitted that the switch has no games.

sander97021767d ago

Yet you couldn't name a single game.

Outlawzz1767d ago

@Rynxie @sander9702 mentioned Splatoon,Zelda, and smash. Just three games. The switch library clearly has more than 3 games otherwise it wouldn't be selling so much. There's also a good amount of 3rd party exclusive games releasing this year. Please refrain from posting such obvious tired troll comments. Try something with a little more substance at least otherwise it's just a waste of everyone's time. Thanks guys

LOGICWINS1767d ago

Dude you're missing out big time. Rewatch the Nintendo Direct and tell me you wouldn't be interested in at least 3 of those games.

EddieNX 1767d ago

That's your taste in gaming . It's like turning up to a 5 star restaurant and saying 'now if, only they sold chicken nuggets!'

Lennoxb631767d ago

5 star restaurants sell chicken nuggets. Just not your average fast food type lol.

Angyobangyo1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

Terrible analogy

Rynxie1767d ago

I would go to the better 5 star restaurant (Sony) to get the dishes. I would only go to the Nintendo restaurant to play Pokemon or Mario.

Face it, Nintendo has no games, unless your jumping on Nintendo first party. The thing is, I don't really care about most Nintendo first party games. Just like I don't buy every Sony first party game. However, Sony also has a rich third party lineup.

Prince-Ali1767d ago

Like you said.. it's his taste in games... im in the same boat.. Theres nothing on Nintendo's console that interests me to the point of purchasing a Switch

badz1491767d ago

it's cute that you equate the Switch as a 5 star restaurant. nice try

starchild1767d ago

@Rynxie

Well, some people feel like that about Sony games too. It's pretty obvious you just came in here to downplay Nintendo and the Switch.

Rynxie1767d ago

Well, the good thing about Sony is it's strong third party lineup. I don't buy every Sony first party game either. I buy many of its third party games. I wouldn't be able to say the same for Nintendo. If you're not interested in Nintendo first party games, you'll have to go for third party on other consoles, considering third party games are much better on the other consoles.

x_xavier_x1767d ago

Another swing and a miss.

rainslacker1767d ago (Edited 1767d ago )

So, Non-Nintendo games are like the Chicken Nuggets of the gaming world? Or the Switch is the 5 star restraunt?

I'm really confused, because switch in it's marketing, looks, and what it has to offer screams gimmick like you'd see from a fast food place.

+ Show (6) more repliesLast reply 1767d ago
Angyobangyo1767d ago

Oh stop it, this tired old argument that is has no games. If it has no games it would be another Wii U. You were never interested in the system in the first place is my guess. It has a wealth of first and third party games just like other systems.

Rynxie1767d ago

You stop it. Isn't the number one argument from Nintendo fans that third party doesn't matter, and it's all about first party Nintendo games? That admits it doesn't have games. I don't care about most Nintendo first party games, and I won't buy it just to give Nintendo money. I don't buy every Sony first party game, but Sony has a rich third party lineup.

1767d ago
antarius1767d ago

Even though they port over some mature games. Nintendo has always been a console for kids. Mario, Splatoon,Zelda and Pokémon all their big draws and all for kids

DwightSchrute011767d ago

You spelt PlayStation wrong.

DEKUX121766d ago

Zelda is for kids? Please explain cus it seems that all the kids are on ps4 and xbox playing cod and fornite

343_Guilty_Spark1766d ago (Edited 1766d ago )

Why bother commenting? It's no secret what games are always on Nintendo devices. You act surprised.
Mits like saying I won't get a PS4 because it has cinematic gales and I'm not interested or an Xbox because it's big in multiplayer.

lazyboyblue1766d ago

That's cool. @Rynxie doesn't have be a Switch fan. It's not compulsory.
I love the Switch library though. Xenoblade 2, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Odyssy stand out for me so far and FE: 3 houses, Luigi mansion 3, Marvel UA3, Animal Crossing, Astral chain, Zelda Links awakening and Deus ex Machina all have me looking forward to what is to come.
