What's Your Favorite Sonic the Hedgehog Game?

After this week's horrifying Sonic trailer, let's look back on some brighter times.

NecrumOddBoy1820d ago

I really love Sonic & Knuckles and Sonic Spinball on Genesis and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on DS.

Hardiman1820d ago

Sonic 1-3, Sonic and a Knuckles and Sonic Adventure.

Sonyslave31820d ago

Sonic adventure 1 & 2 Sega breakfast 😍

FlyingFoxy1820d ago

SA2, Sonic 2, the Rush games on DS.

SegaGamer1820d ago (Edited 1820d ago )

Best = Sonic Adventure 2.
Games that just miss the top spot = Heroes, SA1, Generations, Colours, Mania, Sonic 2
Other Very Good Games = Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic CD, Mean Bean Machine.
Decent, but not great = Sonic 4 pt 1&2, 3D Blast, Sonic 1, Shadow, Black Knight, Secret Rings, Advance 1,2,3.
Underrated = Shuffle, Chronicles, Lost World
Missed opportunity = Sonic 06, Sonic Unleashed (Warehog, why?) Sonic Forces
Bad = Fighters and Boom games.
Racers = Not really a racing game fan, the All-Stars racing games can be fun though.

The 7 Best Sega CD Games and How to Play Them Today

The Sega CD (aka Mega CD) had some classics that still live on today. Here's the 7 best Sega CD games & how to play them on modern consoles.

banger8855d ago (Edited 55d ago )

Series X/S + Dev Mode. It's a shame the retail mode emulators got removed, dev mode looks like a pain in the ass.

Neonridr54d ago

I use the Analogue Mega SG console coupled with a Mega SD everdrive that allows me to play Sega CD games through the cartridge without the need for the CD add-on. Have the 8-bitdo Sega Genesis 6 button wireless controller and it's the closest thing I can get to playing it as it was originally without owning old hardware.

Number1TailzFan54d ago

Final Fight was a great game on the CD, not only on the system but as a fighting game of the time as well. Up there in some ways with Streets of Rage 2 IMO. It's too bad they didn't continue putting the rest of them on there, the music is top notch too.

kevco3354d ago

I bought FF CD as a young teen after having loved the arcade/SNES version (despite the latter being watered down). Loved how immaculate a port it was.

TheBrainZ54d ago

Earthworm Jim is a classic, still have the original somewhere.

OtterX54d ago

There is some wrong information in this article. I just checked for Sonic CD and Shining Force CD on Nintendo Switch eShop (as stated in the article) across 4 different regions, and they are not available.

FinalFantasyFanatic54d ago

I know it's on Steam, but I don't recall seeing either of those games on Switch Eshop, I'm curios as to what region he found them on.

OtterX54d ago

Yea, I checked US, UK, JP and Portugal (my region), not on any of those.

I'd want these handheld, so hopefully I can get a Steam Deck by the end of the year 🙏

ZeekQuattro53d ago

Sega teased big things coming to the Sega Ages line of games but tapped out after about a year. I can't find any evidence that it was added to the Switch. The author must of mistaken it for the Shining Force 1 but even then that's part of the Sega Genesis collection not Ages.

Chocoburger53d ago

Sonic CD is in the Sonic Origins Collection, that's what he meant.

As for Shining Force CD, I don't know if its on the eshop, but it seems unlikely.

OtterX53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Well I'm really happy you responded with this!

I must have completely missed or forgotten about Sonic Origins. I was just looking at it, and it has the Game Gear titles too on the Plus version! (I had a Game Gear back in the day) Man, especially in handheld, that should be great. I just wishlisted it and will pick it up on the next sale.

Thanks a ton!

Chocoburger53d ago

Glad to have reminded you, but I do recommend checking out reviews on Sonic Origins Collection, while I own it (because I wanted the Japanese exclusive swag that comes with the Deluxe Pack), a lot of people are disappointed by it, and the Game Gear emulation, so some video reviews should help.

A lot of people complained that Sega should have emulated the superior Master System versions of the game, since they run at a higher resolution than the Game Gear ports.

The 7 Best Sonic the Hedgehog Games: Racing through Time

Sonic the Hedgehog has a long and turbulent history in videogames, but which are the best games featuring the blue bur?

Rebel_Scum82d ago

Generations over Mania? Please… Generations doesnt have any new ideas in the levels/bosses.

Also a top 7 of Sonic games shouldn’t have any 3D crap and contain at least one of the 8-bit titles.

Sonic CD getting snubbed is weird. Number 1 is definitely interchangable between Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

Snookies1282d ago

Nothing wrong with putting Generations over Mania. Generations had a lot more to it. Mania was just a bit too short, despite how amazing it was. They're both top-tier Sonic games though.

Profchaos81d ago (Edited 81d ago )

I don't think mania was to short given 1,2,3, knuckles were between 1 and 3 hours long.

Mania was 5 hours roughly

However i say the originals feel more repayable because they are so short

Profchaos81d ago (Edited 81d ago )

The 8 bit games were pretty bad overall do you mean the 16 bit ones

Rebel_Scum81d ago

Nope. Sonic 1 & 2 on the master system were great. Dont confuse these with the game gear versions either.

Profchaos81d ago

Top 7 for me
7 cd
6 mania
5 Frontiers
4 sonic 3
3 sonic 1
2 sonic and knuckles
1 sonic 2

persona4chie81d ago

Sometimes I feel like the Sonic Advanced games just didn’t exist with how much it’s always forgotten 😭

Chocoburger80d ago

Even as a Sonic fan, I didn't really care for those games, and getting the Chaos Emeralds were freakin' horrible. Even with an emulator and save states, I didn't have the desire to try. I also didn't like most of the levels or bosses either. Unfortunately, DiMPs aren't good at making Sonic games.

PlayStation 4 Emulator RPCSX Can Now Run Sonic Mania At 45 FPS

RPCSX, the newly announced PS4 emulator made by the wonderful people behind RPCS3, was shown running Sonic Mania at a whopping 45 FPS.

Vits260d ago

Really cool, hopefully, they can advance with this emulator pretty quickly. Their work with the RPCS3 was amazing given how notoriously hard that console architecture is.

walken7260d ago

Correction: it runs the intro screen and then turns into a green mess. Still cool progress, but who approves this garbage with click-bait titles?

Profchaos260d ago (Edited 260d ago )

Interesting watching this advance it might take a few more years but the community will be very thankful in the end after all Sony may have given us full PS4 backwards compatibility in the ps5 but they still haven't given us 60 fps patches and modes for a number of popular games like bloodborne.
I can however see Sony taking a stance against this emulator unlike rpcs3 which was emulating the PS3 as the PS3 was off store shelves and many games had no legal purchase route given psn doesn't have then entire PS3 library available. PS4 is quite different

Abear21259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

Own this from PS Plus. How ironic people spend their precious time, hours of their life they will never get back, trying to get games to run on hardware it’s not intended to when they could easily play it another way. For free no less. Every day things get more odd.
