Why There Are No More Marvel Cinematic Universe Games

While there's been a big resurgence of Marvel games as of late — with last year's excellent Spider-Man from Insomniac Games, the recent news of Iron Man VR coming to PlayStation VR exclusively, and the return of Marvel Ultimate Alliance — the games all share one big thing in common: they're not canon with the MCU. They are unique takes on the Marvel properties, nothing tying them to the famous faces we recognize on the big screen

Because it’d be terrible. Movie license games tend to be rushed. Only few are great when they coincide with a movie’s release

It took years and years for them to understand rushed movie tie-in games make money in the short term but damage the value of the gaming IP in the long run.

Imagine if we got colonial marines when a new alien movie came out. You could never trust a movie tie-in game ever again.

The Alien franchise already did enough damage to itself whenever it releases a new movie XD

P_Bomb1870d ago (Edited 1870d ago )

I’d rather the games continue doing their own thing. I found Insomniac’s first crack at the Spiderverse to be so much better than Homecoming and what I’ve seen of Far from Home. Holland’s “yes Mr Stark, please Mr Stark, love me Mr Stark” is insipid. The Peter/Otto dynamic was much more dignified.

Casepb1870d ago

Well you definitely won't have to worry about that anymore!

AK911870d ago

Because there don't need to be there need to be more games like Spiderman (2018), have each of the games be their own thing.

If Sony was smart I'd give back all rights of spiderman movies to Disney and in exchange get the rights to every marvel property as a game.

porkChop1870d ago

That deal would never happen. Disney wouldn't give all exclusive game rights just for movie rights to one character. That would be a terrible deal for Disney.

CorndogBurglar1870d ago (Edited 1870d ago )

Right. Like Marvel would ever do that. They already made a deal to use Spider-Man in their movies. Why on earth would they give up their right to make video games of every Marvel character in existence for something they already have?

mgszelda11868d ago

Disney already patted EA on the back for the star wars license. Sony would make more money on that than the spiderman related movies

Segata1870d ago

They opted for Marvel non CU games with exclusives deals with Sony/Nintendo and shaping up to be the best choice.

Godmars2901870d ago

Because they would suck.

(No. No. That's no real excuse, especially considering this market...)
