The open beta took me almost a day to download. So this would take me 2 days to download. If I bought the game on Friday, launch day, I wouldn't even be able to play the WHOLE WEEKEND because I'd be downloading this patch

Console patches tend to have a lot more redundant data downoaded with the changes, I'm not sure why. The delta patching should work the same way on all platforms by now. Here, it seems like they're asking you to download an entire new game image.

Plus the person who waits actually gets the finished game (minimum bugs, glitches etc) so waiting means cheaper (more in line with what the game should be priced at) and near to no bugs/glitches/extrs polish.

If you buy the digital version, after waiting for them to actually finish the job, you'll get an up-to-date game image. No additional patches will be necessary at the same time you buy it.

Agreed, I have really fast Internet but some of my friends who I was going to play day 1 with have slow Internet speeds, has really put a initial spanner in the works.
I'll have to wait literally 2 or 3 days now if I want to level up from the start with them and don't get too far ahead.
This is something which needs addressing not only now but definitely nxt gen.
Edit; the games normally come out on a Friday here in the UK but going off this some people will literally have to wait till the nxt Friday after launch to actually play it (work etc in week). Seriously some people will be lucky to get a evening with it on a Sunday before going bk to work?

Exactly. This is one of my main arguments when discussing physical vs digital. The current reality is that you get something practically unusable on the disc. You need to download so much to get it in a proper working state that you may as well save yourself the hassle, and go straight for the download version.

This isn't the size of the update, this is the size of the file after the update, if you have the digital version you may as well just delete it and start again when the patch hits. The way the patches work for some PS4 games is just stupid.

Yeah. They should have figured out proper delta patching by now on consoles. This is why update sizes for PC versions are often much smaller. (They do have delta patching--downloading and applying only changes to the game image from one revision to the next--sorted out on PC.)

This. I only get 750 GB a month ($150) and I almost always go over it, especially by downloading game updates. I finally wised up a bit and started to only update the games I actually play, but I still usually go over, costing me $10 for every additional 50 GB afterwards. It gets expensive, but it's my only option when it comes to high speed internet.

What's really sad is that less than a mile down the road from me, another ISP's territory begins. For about $80/mth, they offer 250 Mbps, no data cap and that includes phone service. But I'm not eligible, because I'm out of their contracted district.

What’s with AAA games doing this lately? I personally see 90GB as less of a patch and more of an entire quilt that’s on the large side. For those who prefer plain English to metaphors, 90GB is bigger than most games, and it’s really something that so much space is supposedly required to fix a few bugs and/or augment an already complete game’s content.

If this is the future...well, it’s not nearly enough to make me throw in the towel and stop following current gaming, but it is a concerning trend nonetheless and a prime example of how things nowadays aren’t always better than they once were.
