Capcom pulls in-game ads from 'Street Fighter V'

Capcom has pulled in-game ads from 'Street Fighter V,' but it's not clear if this is due to the backlash or just a temporary move.

These ads are unfortunate, but this trend has been building for quite a while. I remember last gen when Microsoft updated the UI and suddenly every time you used the dashboard you were inundated with obnoxious ads. Unfortunately, this bold move by the kings of capital ushered in a new era of annoying ads. Not to be outdone by their previous efforts Microsoft went on to employ some truly heinous methods in their next gen offering. XB1 and Kinect combined to spy, steal data,and ultimately get rich off you.

Street Fighter V is a joke of a game and shows Capcom at their worst. The worst part is that it's gone largely unnoticed when the likes of EA have been ripped apart for games like Battlefront 2.

Ad's, multiple season passes (because paying once for a few characters just isn't enough for them) other bits of DLC that isn't part of the season pass.

I hate it, and I hate what gaming has turned into.

It's unfortunate that this bs surrounds SFV because it's actually an excellent game at its core. The visuals are excellent and the gameplay is superb. I can't offer much on the netcode, but when SFV Rre-released as SFV Arcade it received rave reviews. Unfortunately the game didn't sell like MHW so i suppose they felt the need to suppliment funds in other ways..

they also botched its launch with single player campaign controversy, also releasing on only one console and pc is limiting, then the ads in game etc. The visuals do look good, well after they fixed cammy's face after complaints.

I could understand if they made adverts optional and it was only to advertise a game event (world championship of X game) and it rewards players to view the content. But unsure how the ads were in Sf5 as never played.

But if it was forced then it's not acceptable on a pay to own game. But this is the sort of thing you expect from Crapcom.

I witnessed a full screen ad while i was on Killing floor 2. Totally different game but my point is it looks like a whole new wave of bullshit could be heading into games. You pay for a video game yet you are shown an ad. WTF

It used to be that devs would have to pay these companies to use real brands in their games. That’s why we got generic stuff on billboards. These companies should be paying devs to get real world products on these billboards. I wouldn’t care less if I saw a Doritos billboard in games. It would be less intrusive than stopping gameplay to show an ad. That’s the dumbest thing I have ever heard. I would rather no ads but if you have to do it then let us ignore them like we do in real life.

@ILostMyMind - Unlike yourself my husband and I can afford multiple consoles, it's my fella who has the PS4 and when I bought him SFV he put it in for about 1 hour before turning it off and telling me he hated it.

The content was half arsed, the still images were terrible and some of the fighting sounded like gay sex (we'd know).

I persuaded him to give it another go about a month later and we tried it together, this time I agreed with him and we went back to mortal combat.

We gave the gave away to a neighbour's son who goes to school with our youngest lad as we don't believe in trading in as it's evil.

I actually didn't mind this and found it rather appropriate.

While I understand many of the arenas in the game itself wouldn't make sense, this is still a tournament in the game's story and there is a thriving eSports league for the game. Having advertisements actually makes real world sense.
