The mysterious future of Dead Island 2 has been thrust into further intrigue following a tweet from an ex-developer.
"Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver are today very happy and proud to announce that "Dead Island 2" (their multimillion copy selling first-person action RPG), is now available via Steam." - Dambuster Studios and Deep Silver.
"Deep Silver, Dambuster Studios, and PLAION are today very happy and excited to announce that they have just released the second expansion (“SoLA”) for "Dead Island 2" (the said expansion is availableright now for PC and consoles via digital stores)." - Jonas Ek, TGG.
In a late night surprise, it appears that some users are reporting that Dead Island 2 has been stealth dropped on Xbox Game Pass.
Instead of helping the developers and publishers recuperate development and marketing costs by buying the games you are interested in so that they can keep creating new games in the future, you place the burden on PS and PC gamers (who actually buy games) to fund the game development.
That is Game Pass in a nutshell.

Sony is offering a service where games that are past their self life can generate more income. That's not Sony's main strategy for games and gamers.
Game Pass is for many developers/publishers the only CHANCE to even make SOME money on Xbox platform. Xbox's main strategy is Game Pass, and Xbox gamers don't buy games the same way PS and PC players do, and that is not sustainable.
Yeh, I checked that (sad face). Only option for PC gamers with Ultimate is to cloud stream.
It's on torent sites though so if you want it free like most xbox users just get it there
Free? Pretty sure I pay a monthly subscription to access the games.
Nah, I'm good on that man. I used to torrent games when I was younger, not anymore though. Not trying to get my $2000 PC infected with malware. Plus, I've got a decent job so I can afford to buy my games/subscriptions.
LIcensing to include PC is much more expensive than just console. Especially for a non-GaaS game.
But they want to grow gamepass on PC so really they should still try and license both it's not uncommon however e.g. red dead redemption 2, GTA v both came to console gamepass and xcloud but not PC.
Shame. The commercial was great.
I dont know why this game is taking so long to make dead island 1 and riptide were ok but dying light from the original devs is much much better in my opinion i doubt they are gonna do anything beyond just making another dead island game in the end...
The game is dead, as far as I'm concerned. This also doesn't help Sumo Digital, since for months I've thought they took on more than they could handle with three titles in development.
At this point they'll be a real zombie apocalypse before this game is finished.
