EA Says Star Wars Battlefront 2 "did not go as planned"

From GameWatcher: "It only took Star Wars Battlefront 2 a mere few days to go from one of the most anticipated titles of last year, to, quite possibily, its most infamous. The controversy surrounding its pay-to-win loot box progression not only made reddit history, with the most downvoted comment of all time, but also spurred state institutions into investigating loot boxes themselves.

No they planned to nickel and dime the gamer and that didn't work out well for them

RosweeSon1956d ago

And to make it worse use one of the biggest names around. Star Wars deserved much better than EA trying to rob people on another yearly churn. Just imagine if a great developer like rockstar or rocksteady had had the Star Wars license that would have been amazing

Everybody! Do the dance of joy!

Majin-vegeta1956d ago

Aside from all the bullshit that went on.The game is now a blast to play.

THRASHMOUTH1956d ago

I find it hard to believe that Anthem will be any different.

rdgneoz31956d ago

@thrash. If they stick to what they've said, microtransactions will only be cosmetic and you see what you buy, not random loot boxes. If they reverse that, then people will be pissed.

ZorinInc1956d ago

Anthem will suck and shame on you for support Battlefront II. Gamers are dumb and have no backbone.

Exoil1956d ago

Piss off mate, you ain't the one deciding what games one should or shouldn't play

Majin-vegeta1956d ago

I bought it used so....🤷‍♂️

bloop1956d ago

After I told everyone I know not to get me this game last year for Christmas, It was still bought as a gift for me. I played the campaign, which was awful, then it sat collecting dust for nearly a whole year. After all the patches and balancing I was curious to see what it was like and put it on a few weeks ago. What can I say........... the game is actually good and I've been playing it every now and again since, and having fun with it. It was a complete mess at launch and purely pay to win, but they seem to have balanced everything now. I didn't think I'd ever say it as I was firmly sat on the boycott wagon. I still despise EA though.

uth111956d ago

Battlefront II was never pay to win. they removed the ability to pay for loot crates the same day it released due to the controversies

CorndogBurglar1956d ago (Edited 1956d ago )

@ uth11

You're talking semantics. Yes, Battlefront 2 launched with no ability to pay real money. But the game was designed 100% around nickel and diming the community with a pay 2 win system. So much so that it would have taken literally 1,000's of hours to unlock everything in the game without buying loot boxes.

Not only that, but the ONLY reason EA took away the pay option is because of the amount of backlash the community gave them when the beta was released.

Again, the game was totally built around needing to buy loot boxes that it took EA an entire year to redo the entire progression system.

So don't try to give us this crap about the game never being pay 2 win. Once they took away the pay option gamers were stuck with a game where you could only grind for countless hours to unlock characters and Star cards. They even turned around and lowered the requirements to unlock things so wasn't such a grind. But at the end of the day the damage was done. Sorry, but until they release several games that have better progression that doesn't require anything to be paid, I will not buy another EA game. Battlefield 5 looked like they were doing just that, but then they had to throw in all the PC nonsense and release an unfinished game. So again, no buy from me.

They need to get back to making good games. Period. No BS. No PC nonsense where it doesn't belong. No forced agendas. Just make and release a good, finished product that isn't going to cause any contraversy.

People can support whatever they want. Curious, what games do you like? By your reasoning, whatever you answer with, I'll just say "Ha, you're dumb and have no backbone shame on you for supporting crap you like. Stupid sheep" See how that looks in text?

We have EA to thank for loot boxes being looked down upon these days. It was there before in games like Overwatch. But people didn't really think too much of it until the whole BF2 fiasco.

milohighclub1956d ago

Lootboxes have been looked down upon since the beginning of lootboxes.

CorndogBurglar1955d ago (Edited 1955d ago )

You couldn't be more wrong.

Loot boxes were never accepted and a lot of people were never okay with them.

Battlefront just blew the whole idea of Loot Boxes out of proportion because they took it to a new whole new level by creating a game that had a progression system based entirely on spending money.

Games like Overwatch were not viewed as too egregious because you only unlocked cosmetic things. The progression system was not based on spending money on boxes for items that you had no idea what they contained.

Don't kid yourself into thinking that people were okay with either. There is an very large group of people that believe that if you buy a game then it should have all unlockables in the game and a reasonable way to unlock it all through gameplay. Even Overwatch becomes harder and harder to earn enough points to open Loot Boxes through gameplay.

Owerwach is nothing compared to fifa,.. which basically instituted online gambling to get ahead of other players,..That is why this crap is so compelling to gamers,.. I know their stock crashed a lot ,.. (It is still 40 times overpriced,.. but that is every US company)

BrettAwesome1956d ago

Yeah. I quite enjoy it too. I bought it does cheap, picked up the trophies for the campaign, and have since had a lot of fun with galactic assault or whatever the 64 player mode is called. Progression is decent too

Spenok1955d ago

Wholly agree, the game is awesome now.

Well who's fault is that exactly? Got no one to blame but your greedy hands EA.

"EA Says Star Wars Battlefield V "did not go as planned"

ClayRules20121956d ago

For real.

They’ll just keep saying this kinda stuff with each new game. Greed & Stupidity is definitely strong at EA.

Shikoku1956d ago

It went as planned they just didn't expect people to be smart enough to understand what they planned.

Game companies are not mature enough to handle this concept without turning it into a casino.

shadowknight203133d ago

The remakes of battlefront should have been more simular to the originals. CoD/battlefield reskinned as Star Wars was not the anwser.

Remembering or celebrating? It's Halloween yo, that's what people are celebrating.

The first game was really fun. I remember being disappointed with this one when it first released.

I went back last month actually, and had more fun than when released-but I still think the first one is superior. Do like the soundtrack!
