Nintendo: Unrealistic to expect every major game on Switch, but number of titles will increase

During Nintendo’s financial results briefing last month, one investor brought up how Switch has some major games missing from third-party publishers.

Madden has gone full retard. I think I'm officially done with it after 25 years. I typically play hundreds of games online every year, but last year was my least played iteration. This year I bought it used (because EA) and I think I played just one or two games then sold it. Features they were touting as new were not, everything in terms of gameplay and controls were the same from the last few years. You know the soundtrack, how there's usually a bunch of variety? Not this year, the entire soundtrack was cRap with only a few official NFL soundtracks. This year was easily the laziest iteration this gen and they pushed more than ever for Madden Ultimate Team Pay To Win modes.

Nintendo fans don't realistically expect graphically intense games to run on what is essentially a 7 inch tablet.
The only people who are being unrealistic is the haters expecting it to be able to run anything even though that in a lot of cases,it's literally impossible.

It's amazing to be able to play stuff like Wolfenstein 2, BOTW etc on the go, imo it's almost impressive as the XB1X in its own right and I have both a Switch and an XB1X.

Let's be honest. The port begging knows no limits. I agree with you overall, with the people who think about it more than act. But I see port begging on essentially anything considered good that's not on it./
But actually on topic, I think it'll actually be the opposite. It's like PSP and Vita, when the power is in range they have alot of ports etc released on it. Once it falls out of the power range, Devs do it for a little and then say forget it. unless nintendo releases a way more powerful switch that can keep up with next gen. Next year maybe the last year of multiplat galore. Maybe the year after, since PS4 will definitely be supported past PS5.

I just think people are being unrealistic as this guy is saying. The Switch isn't magical, it's not going to match home consoles 1:1 when it's 15-20 times smaller. What it is however, is a very competent handheld/hybrid and Im very satisfied with it and impressed by it even though I own an XB1X and a large 4KTV. I still think the Switch holds its own and is great at what it does because I'm not an irrational hater.

No matter how powerful my X is it doesn't have stuff like Zelda, Mario, Smash Brothers and it never will. The Switch is great In its own right as are the PS4 and XB1

Wolfenstein 2 runs and looks like trash on the switch, docked or portable mode. If Nintendo wants to actually be able to run 3rd party games coming in the future at a respectable level, they're going to have to release a upgraded Super Switch.

DankSinatra2417d ago

Looks and runs like trash? Have you seen the 1.2 update? It looks really close to the XBO version despite the resolution difference and the frame rate is very stable (it runs a very steady 30fps), while it doesn't have the resolution or frame rate of the PS4 and Xbo versions it still holds up really well with the update.

EddieNX 2417d ago (Edited 2417d ago )

Wolfenstein 2 looks incredible in portable mode, like having a mini home console. They will release an upgraded Switch with a higher resolution screen and more processing power , it's a matter of time at this point.

Sirk7x2416d ago

How much would that cost? There are limiting factors to this, namely the limitations of modern batteries, heating solutions in small devices and how much consumers are willing to pay. I think it's kind of a marvel that the game runs on a small tablet in the first place, but hey.

yomfweeee2417d ago

Then they should have beefed it up and sold it for $400 and then it could make at least as strong as base PS4 and X1.

I'm not so sure they couldn't have done that for $300, but Nintendo is greedy and expects top dollar.

Nebaku2417d ago

You have zero understanding of hardware if even at 400 dollars you think that's feasible.

Also, the cheap price is part of what makes Nintendo work.

yomfweeee2417d ago (Edited 2417d ago )

No, not really. They were making $50 profit when it came out. If they put $150 (lose profit and sell for 100 more) more worth of components in the system it could match X1 easily at a $400 price. They could have taken a small loss if needed, which is common for consoles.

Sirk7x2416d ago (Edited 2416d ago )

Again, there are technological limits to what you can accomplish with mobile devices. No small battery exists to power that respectably, and cooling would be a serious issue. The fans and heatsink alone on the Xbox are bigger than the entire Switch console. If Microsoft and Sony could have shrunk their consoles down to that size, they would have done it lol. I have a 6 inch screen phone, and the Switch is maybe 20 percent bigger than it. It's tiny.

InTheZoneAC2417d ago

the people that want more aren't "haters", that's trollish of you to say that. And I see no reason why any 3rd party game can't come to the switch considering you can simply downgrade the visuals and limit onscreen objects if you need to. That's called being lazy.

i mean, alot of us figured that would be the case right?

PapaBop2417d ago

Say that to those begging for a RDR 2 port

EddieNX 2417d ago

Literally nobody is begging for RDR2 on the Switch, partly because there is no way the Switch could run it, the graphics are absolutely ridiculous In the game, not something a handheld is going to run.

We want things we think the Switch can realistically run.

RosweeSon2417d ago

Nope that’s what I got my PS4 for

execution172417d ago

It's probably because of limitations on space

Shiken2417d ago

This

If RDR2 came for example, you would need at least a 126 GB card for digital, and maybe even for physical if they use the smaller cart. I mean sure, I could do it if I had an SD card dedicated to the game, but most consumers are not going to waste their time junping through hoops, making any possible port not worth the time.

The porta it does get is great and if the output of current gen ports that CAN fit well with the system come, that is good enough.

We will need a power upgrade no later than a year after the PS5 is released though. Otherwise the output will drop off.
