I had no idea the Switch was selling so well,

If these statistics are accurate ,The Switch has outsold the PlayStation 4 by 2.39 Million units within the specified timeframe.

Obviously the fact that the PS4 has such a large marketshare already will have had an impact, but still these are very impressive figures indeed.

Nintendo must be laughing all the way to the bank at all the naysayers who said that the system would flop.

MVGeneral2246d ago

To only beat the ps4 marginally, after the ps4 has been out for more than 4 years, and has already sold majority of what it will sell. Isn't that much of an accomplishment to be honest. Just saying. But I'm glad the gaming market is doing well.

78 Million PS4s to 15 Million Switches. End thread delusional Nintendo fanboys

Lockdown5552246d ago

You should really take an economics class... If the PS4 is still trending positive in sales numbers then it has most certainly not already sold the majority of what it will.

edeprez2246d ago

This is just comparing the first year of ps4 sales, its switches current year vs ps4 launch year. Ps4 is doing much more than it was the first year, it sold 21 million in 2017.

“To only beat the PS4 marginally after the PS4 has been out for more than 4 years”

These are aligned sales. Not sure why it matters if the PS4 has been out for four years when comparing aligned launches.

_-EDMIX-_2246d ago

Absolutely agreed I don't even think many of them realize the more they keep talking about this massive accomplishment for the Nintendo switch they only display the uphill battle they're going to have if this is as good as they could do against a system that's 4 years old.

Every single time I hear them talking about they're amazing lineup That year and how PlayStation 4 is lineup wasn't that good, so are they not realizing that even with a not good lineup PlayStation 4 outsold them?

PlayStation 4 selling extremely well because it has all the top third-party support on top of a very exclusive lineup. So of course a lot of us are excited for God of War but we're also excited for Far Cry 5 Call of Duty Battlefield Red Dead Redemption 2 and many more.

When people tell you about the Nintendo switch in regards to the biggest games releasing literally 99% of the entire list is made up of a single publisher yet they're wondering why PlayStation is out selling them? Basically if you don't like Nintendo as a publisher there's no reason to own the damn system but you could technically not like Sony as a publisher and still buy a PlayStation 4 with a crap load of games.

So buying a Nintendo switch is literally determined on if you actually like Nintendo.

Buying a PlayStation is not determined on whether or not you like Sony or not because you technically could not care for the Publishers games but still recognize the third-party support because most of us are not just sitting around just playing Sony games, I mean I myself and currently playing Battlefield 1 Yakuza 0 Persona 5 Mass Effect...etc

My reasoning for buying a PlayStation 4 is not solely just Sonia itself it's being able to actually know that I'm going to get Final Fantasy Kingdom Hearts Call of Duty Battlefield and all the other top games that are releasing it is a combination of both.

That cannot be said regarding the Nintendo switch for the most part the vast majority of Nintendo systems are bought simply to play that one Publishers games.

I'm not really sure why anyone is trying to pretend as if when Elder Scrolls 6 or Grand Theft Auto 6 or anything like that gets announced that PlayStation gamers are just going to ignore it or something I mean come on folks a lot of us who enjoy other game series by PlayStation primarily because it's receiving multiple of those game series not simply because Sony is publishing it.

So people need to start addressing that people who buy PlayStation Xbox or PC could clearly also be massive fans of other series that have been releasing on those systems for multiple Generations. That is a largely in part why you're not going to see something like the Nintendo switch outsell the PlayStation 4 you're just talking about a larger demographic.

2,38 million is not marginally at all

deafdani2246d ago

I think you misunderstood this article. It's not comparing last year's sales for both systems, it's comparing the sales of both systems in their first 11 months in the market respectively.

PS4 actually sold more units than Switch in 2017, but that's another matter entirely.

DivineAssault 2245d ago

It is a big accomplishment being the fastest moving console launch ever.. Im not saying it will be as successful as PS4 by any stretch but its still doing great

ABizzel12246d ago

The comparison will always go back and forth, and it shows great sells for both. The Switch had its holiday boost on the 9th and 10th months PS4 won't have the benefits of a holiday boost until months 12 and 13, so the PS4 should catch and eclipse the Switch in these charts over the next 2 months, and it'll be like that because they launched at different times.

This graph makes things VERY EVIDENT and support the case that a holiday launch does nothing beneficial for sales, the Switch launched in March and still matched PS4's November launch proving you can only sell what you have available.

I really want to get a Switch to compliment my PC and PS4 eventually.

kevnb2246d ago

I know these consoles are doing well, but vgchartz...

nitus102245d ago

I have asked this before and I will ask again.

If you know of any reputable statistical site which covers games and console hardware that is not locked behind a paywall please share.

MADGameR2246d ago (Edited 2246d ago )

We all know the PS4 dominates the kiddy portable console. Switch has no chance. 78 Million to what? 15 Mill? what a joke!

meganick2246d ago

Are you at all aware of the time gap between the release of the two consoles you mentioned? PS4 has been on the market 3.5 years longer, so naturally it’s sales are quite a bit higher than the Switch.

edeprez2246d ago

It's launch year vs launch year. They are using 2014 ps4 numbers.

Lockdown5552246d ago

Lol, the logic you are using is so immature and childish and then you throw in that it is a kiddy portable console. The irony in this is hysterical...

Akarogg 2246d ago

According to MAD, the Switch should have sold 80 million in one year to prove it's mettle

Such a good game to me. Crazy how different peoples opinions can get.

Crows902h ago(Edited 2h ago)

For me it wasn't that surprising. There was some bad press before. There's also the matter and element of a person's disposition when trying out a certain game. Sometimes you're just not really into the type of game that you're playing so you put it down because you don't like it. Not necessarily because it's a bad game but because you're just not up for something like this. Reviewers have a tough because no matter what they feel like playing they've got to play what's releasing.

I have many times gone back to games that I put down only to thoroughly enjoy them the second time around because either there wasn't another exciting game coming out around the same time or I just had no other games to play and haven't played that type of game in a while. I'm not the type of person that can just play a souls game through all this iterations one after the other without getting burnt out on the formula.

In my opinion this game was great from the start. Some bugs here and there but nothing worse than the most AAA releases during the same time after and before. All I did was wait one week and I had a phenomenal time with the game. No other zombie survival game comes close to how I thoroughly enjoyed this one

-Foxtrot1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Yeah I thought it was pretty decent, it had its flaws but for their first big console single player open world game it's a solid 8/10.

I have never seen an AAA "zombie" game feature as many enemies as the horde sections did, you really had to think about your surroundings and plan carefully.

I feel journalists had an issue with this game from the moment it was announced, they really didn't like the Biker characters and the overall Biker gang theme. If they were anything else I feel it would have had a better chance or at least they'd overlook some of the flaws like they do for certain other open world games. They don't mind waiting weeks or months for a patch knowing its coming but a game that has it Day 1 it's suddenly a big no no? Yeah this was one of those moments that showed you how they cherry pick who to suddenly decide to go harsh on when they want to.

mkis0071h ago

Ill never forget the reviewer who tried to claim the "ride me like you ride your bike" line was anything but a joke...they (sarah and deacon) explicitly call it a joke and the reviewer still misinformed the reader about it as if it was a literal thing.

Michiel198948m ago

the score on metacritic is 71 from journos, its 9 points lower than your review so stop making stuff up. They didn't hate it from the start, they on average just liked it slightly less than you.

-Foxtrot45m ago(Edited 44m ago)

@Michiel1989

I'm not making anything up, they held a grudge against it and made stuff up themselves like mkis007 has just pointed out. That 71 on Metacritic is why it didn't get a sequel.

Anyway how can I make anything up when I didn't even mention metacritic in my original post?

Leeroyw2h ago

Second act of that game far surpassed the first. Which is why people felt it didn't live up to the hype of the trailers. Personally I loved it. But it was a slog to get your bike and weapons up to skill.

Inverno2h ago

Was gonna post a brick wall of text but I'll keep it short. Pardon my French but f**k the media for the hate they gave this game. If you have a PC to play it on you can get it as low as 10 bucks, and if you have a PS then it's a no brainer. Totally worth a play.

phatak2h ago(Edited 1h ago)

I don't even comment here often but had to for this game, I still stand by my opinion that this was one of the top 10 games of the ps4 generation, I preferred days gone over god of war, horizon and last of us 2, the launch version was definitely piss poor and that messed up the reviews for this game, honestly some games deserve a re-review or post patch review as the metacritic score stays forever but the reality is its not even the same game anymore, the ps5 patch is amazing and the pc version which I play on nowadays is one of the best looking games ever, complete shame that we wont get a sequel, god of war got one, horizon got one, last of us got one, spider man got one, ghosts of tshushima about to get one but this game wont get one, sucks to be honest.

Ps3/360 era had some hidden underated games for me it was shadows of the damned, alice madness returns that deserved more sales and a sequel/ higher scores, and similarly for the ps4 era it was days gone, and dying light 1 that deserved much more love, dying light atleast got a sequel, everyone needs to play this game once and judge for themselves, for me its officially the most underrated game of the ps4 era, go play it if you haven't.

Awesome game. Just bought it for my laptop last week
