Five Years Later, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a Relic of a Bygone Era

With the recent ports of Bayonetta on Switch and Metal Gear Rising's 5th anniversary, it's a good time to look back on the dwindling character action genre.

The story is too old to be commented.

Holy crap I just remembered this game did take place in 2018.

On another note it’s not like we’re not getting over the top character action games anymore. There’s upcoming titles like God of War 4, No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, Darksiders 3, Praey for the Gods, Bayonetta 3, Yakuza 6, Ghost of Tsushima, & Monkey King: Hero Is Back not to mention the other various character action games we’ve gotten since 2013.

I really like this game on PS3 60 fps baby!

For me personally Platinum is the only one still making these games as a real evolution to the genre's beginnings in the PS2 era. Unless DMC 5 comes out, Bayo 3 is the only one with complex combat with things like taunts, dodge offset, juggling, etc.

The new No More Heroes has a good luck but looking at interviews its not really clear what the gameplay is. Either way ive always felt that game was a beat em up.

Maybe im missing something but the new God of War doesnt seem like it even has a combo counter?
