On March 29th, 2018, the online servers for Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 will be decommissioned. The single player campaign for both games will remain accessible.
Probably won't get a new Killzone until PS5 launches
Horizon is GG's IP now so maybe never unless fans demand it's return.
What kinda BS is that? Guerilla Cambridge could easily make an amazing killzone game. The vita game was really good, considering the hardware.
Might be difficult with the studio closing earlier in the year.
I need a Killzone 2 remaster...
GG already said they're not done with Killzone. http://www.pushsquare.com/n...
@mafiahajeri Guerilla Cambridge was dissolved a while back so I doubt it.
Noôoooooo I love to go back to them once in a while. 2 of my best last gen games
@mafiahajeri If they still existed, sure.
Who cares? The last one was crap! Sony is shutting down their PS3 games franchise by franchise.
True, they're never gonna top KZ2's multiplayer so any new KZ that comes out, I'm not going to care about to be honest.
Even their games like Killzone 3 and Killzone Shadow Fall weren’t the best like KZ2 was, but they were good enough. Also, GG love Killzone series but a lot of people like myself including GG are agreed that we need to do something new to refresh ourselves. GG have evolved for good reason. Fun fact though, the original Horizon Prototype was going to have Co op, but it was completely scratched.
You cared enough to make a comment.
Youre not making any sense, must be from all that deep throat xD
Nail in the coffin for that so called "Halo Killer".
Halo killed itself. Killzone didn’t need to lift a finger.
Coinork Halo doesn't need a killer , it killed it self .
You expect them to keep the servers running for PS3 games when they don't have the player base still playing it. I'm surprised the online is actually still running after all these years.
@deep dumb companies close servers for old games all the time but I can name 2 PS3 games that Sony can never shutdown and they do war and fly to the star like a hawk
Killzone 2 multiplayer is legendary.
Agreed, so many memories!
Agreed, that TOP 1% Trophy was one of my favorites. So many good memories playing online.
They should remake it for the PS4
One of those games which proved less is more and that it should be about skill, not what gimmicks you've unlocked.
Clan matches were the best MP experiences I've ever had to be honest - there were some absolute beasts out there.
One of the only good MP modes Sony has had in a looong time.
Uhmm you nver play resistance,Uncharted or the Last of Us MP?The Last of Us MP was like top 5 best MP I've ever played, and I've played a crap ton of MP games.
MAG, Warhawk, And Starhawk were all amazing multiplayer experiences as well.
Along with 8 player Co op in resistance 2
Or 256 player's on MAG. The game had it's issues but it was fantastic when people worked together
That mp was crazy, definitely when they put out a spawn point in the middle of a battle room.
Absolutely! Those trophies weren't easy but so rewarding to get em! Mercenary still gives me those vibes :D
Was good. What I'm waiting for is socom
Now Killzone: Mercenary & Killzone: Shadow Fall will be the only way to play multiplayer in the series
Hey, Killzone Mercenary was great.
Still play that now
I didn’t say it wasn’t
People still play shadow fall. I logged in about 6 months ago for a day and enjoyed it. So refreshing playing a mp game without aim assist
Isn't shadow fall's MP pretty much dead? Plus it is crap compared to KZ2
Please tell me how much Shadow Fall multiplayer game time you have played? You obviously know nothing about it by your comments.
@FunAndGun Admittedly not a ton because when I got on a bit late after launch it didn't seem active, took me a while to find matches, not all matches were filled etc. So i figured it was pretty much dead. Plus getting on late sucked because all the OP powers you can get once you level up. Didn't seem like an even playing field.
Gotta hook up the PS3 and play KZ2 MP one last time before then. It had a nice run.
Is it still alive online? If it is I'm going to play it
I played a about 2 months ago. Mostly 24/7 blood gracht. There were a few Solomon market games too
Last I played it was two years ago so I don't know. But I'm sure with this news a lot of people like myself are going to start playing it again before it shuts down.
Agreed, what about the bot mode? I used to love playing against them, to me kz2 had some of the best bots. I suppose that too will be gone since it uses the servers.
Thank you for the memories
Killzone 2 clan warfare was great. Some of us N4G veterans from 07-08 even came together to play matches. Good times.
Was in one of the best clans in the world for a time in KZ2. Such good memories with this game, the clan system was so ahead of its time. Everything was timed, you looked forward to your clans schedule. Felt like being part of an actual team. If this gets a next gen remastered edition I would gladly pay full price.
Halo 1, 2, 3, 4, ODST and Reach servers are still up and running on Xbox 360
And GG has moved on to making excellent RPGs while Bungie has moved on to chronically disappointing lootbox-loaded games as a service shooters.
Yup, in the end the loss of Bungie really hasn't hurt Microsoft.
And yet Bungie's games as a service is still highly more successful and lucrative than GG's last game... I guess Bungie as a company is winning...
@Thunder_G0d_Bane I'm far more interested in the quality offered to consumers than the number of units sold. As long as their games are selling well enough to support the devs continued growth (which Horizon clearly did) I don't care if it gets outsold by bland, lowest common denominator shooters. My question is why do you care more about corporate bottom lines than the value offered to consumers?
They did a re-release with the master chief edition if it wasn't for that then it would only be 3-4. The same can happen for killzone
Halo 1 doesn't have online and the Halo 2 servers were shut down. Only way to play online is with the MCC on Xbox 1
Halo 1 Anniversary edition is still online, isnt it?
Halo 1 had online on the PC version even to this year.
It is interesting to see how much support Microsoft continues to provide for its games. Backwards compatibility keeps getting better and better. I bought BC as xbox originals on my 360. That license was honored when they return BC for original xbox games recently on xbox one. BC for 360 titles keeps getting better and better with more titles and better BC. Halo and Gears games on Xbox 360 recently got a "backwards compatibility update" that improved their visuals on backwards compatibility. Along with skyrim and an assassin's creed game. Microsoft is keeping game servers up and running longer and longer. They continue to bring 4K updates to key games on Xbox One X. Sony is doing good in this space, But, Microsoft is clearly leading. (Yes, Sony has a better exclusive game lineup, before Sony fanboys jump on this post)
Well, Xbox players need something to play.........;) Sorry, Merry Christmas
lol....yeah, but Halo is Xbox's reason for being.
To be clear H1 didnt have MP, and the PC version wasn't the same. Halo 2's original MP is down and the PC versions a disaster. ODST didnt have multiplayer in the traditional sense and as far as I'm aware the rest uses P2P. Not really sure what you're bragging about, NO ONE should be celebratory when it comes to a service being lost it could just as easily be a game you loved tomorrow.
Well that is the bad thing about online gaming. Servers aren’t kept online forever.
Usually after this long the user base has moved on to other MP games or the next game in the series. In this case however, GG didn't make another MP modes that was as good as KZ2.
That's one reason I hate these always online games. Once the servers are down... I figured the servers for KZ2 were already down. I was looking at my trophies 2-3 years ago and said dam, I never did go back to KZ2 to get the last few online trophies for the Platinum. Oh well, it's too late now. Apparently it wasn't. Now I'm not sure I have the desire or will between now and end of March.Though all I need are Acquire all bade, mission and combat specific medals. Yeah, probably still end up short even if I tried Lol I'm not a big online gamer but I will say that KZ2 was phenomenal. KZ3 probably was too but when it came out I was busy and never got around to playing online. Certainly hope GG goes back and does a proper KZ like 2 and 3 and nail the online aspects.
I have played all the killzone multiplayer and had a great time in all of them. Shadow fall is great, so it makes sense that they killed the other ones. This is to be expected with online and multiplayer games.
I love SF MP. Been a while, but people tend to trash it... Awesome classes, heaps of FREE dlc... Prob my most played MP after COD MW (1) back in the day.
The next killzone mp needs to be similar to 2. Loved the lack of aim assist(in all kz mp games), map size, and pacing. Was one of my platinums as well.
Some of the maps were brilliant, Warzone was epic, throw in clan matches and it was a great experience. They need to remaster KZ2, we need more MP games like that, skill, not PPSH with masses of aim assist.
Killzone 2 MP was a lot of fun!
I assumed they already were.
