"The" future? Sole future? Doubtful.

A big part of the future? Most definitely.

Nothing new here though, as PC has always welcomed varied levels of game development, being that it's (still thankfully) not a locked down draconian controlled fortress of a system. Where you need to pay stupid fees, and cater to console manufacturer rules to release games on their hardware.

They're doing pretty much what they did with the Vita. It didn't sell right out of the gate so they pulled almost all support.

I feel like the astrobot decision was made before psvr2 even went on sale. Apparently psvr2 was outselling psvr1 by a decent amount too.
