Was Jimmy Fallon’s Switch Showing a Bust?

Nintendo did more "telling" than "showing" when the Switch came to The Tonight Show.

That's what January is for.

SkippyPaccino3105d ago

Yep... I found it odd that the switch logo on the controller was already starting to fade... Hopefully production models have a better coat of paint

NukaCola3105d ago

Reggie is so cringe worthy and fake it's unenjoyable to listen to him. He literally makes me uninterested in Nintendo. As for Jimmy, he is a passionate gamer but so terrible at them, that I just get turned away hard.

BrandanT3105d ago

I always said and thought this about Reggie - he comes off as waaaaay too arrogant.

Perjoss3105d ago

I'm not a huge fan of MS but Nintendo needs someone like Phil Spencer. Reggie is obviously a smart man but in all of his PR appearances he addresses people like they have super low IQ.

R00bot3105d ago

:(
I like Reggie even if just for the memes

XanderZane3104d ago (Edited 3104d ago )

Yeah Reggie is pretty arrogant. When he was being interviewed by Geoff Keighley at the VGA show and showed off some Wii U game that wasn't too great. Geoff said, "Is that it" Reggie said, "Yes..what else were you expecting?" Something really ignorant. That Direct they did with the Puppets made him look even more stupid. Think it's time for Reggie to find a new gig.

StrykerDragoon3104d ago

I completely agree with you. its more a cocky condescending tone that he brings everytime. Most Nintendo fans I encounter are mindless drones and they would never research or admit how shitty Nintendo is with their PR or game releases.

Time for a change.

Army_of_Darkness3104d ago

After that Nintendo revealing, my interest "switched" for yes to No thanks...

True. Was this article even necessary? Pretty sure we'll see a lot more of the games before the system launches. Another click-bait article.

Neonridr3106d ago

I am sure Jimmy got plenty of playing time off camera :D

Guy was so excited to hold the thing his hands were shaking. But I will wait for the January reveal for all the information that we need to know.

Christopher3105d ago

Jimmy overreacts to almost everything, though. It muddies my expectations. I can tell he is a big fan of Zelda, though, but his reactions were just cringeworthy.

As far as my own thoughts, I'm a WiiU owner so my expectations right now are to never even consider the Switch until they prove to me it won't just be another WiiU. And part of that is especially the price of games as well as third-party support. They can say all they want, but Nintendo will need at least a year to prove to me that they've changed. So, this showing to me is just more PR for something they have yet to prove.

mcstorm3105d ago

I know what you mean. I own the wiiu and for the most part I have loved the console and has some amazing 1st party games but the last 12 to 18 months have been few and far between for 1st party games. I just hope that Nintendo use the switch to replace the wiiu and 3ds so we get to see big name games like Mario kart a Splatoon 2 but also some of the bigger portable games like Pokemon come to the switch to. If the switch loses 3rd party support it kind of wont matter then in terms of the ips nintendo will offer.

I that said it's still early days and anything could happen we have not seen much of the pro or next Xbox so it will also depend on how and if they are pushed to.

For me though I'm excited for the switch and can't wait to get my hand one one and also see more come January.

Neonridr3105d ago

see I am seeing it more for the handheld side. The fact that I can take any game I want and play it wherever I want is everything I wanted the Wii U to be. Sadly the range on the Wii U gamepad was just a little too short for my tastes.

I got so much use out of my Wii U for the Nintendo games, that I don't even care. I mean for someone to say that they didn't get $300 worth of use from their Wii U obviously shouldn't be buying the console in the first place. There were so many amazing quality first party games on that system. Sure, not having 3rd party hurt. But then again, I have a PS4 Pro for all my 3rd party gaming needs.

If the games are on cartridges, I am going to assume that the price of the games is going to fall between Wii U and 3DS prices.

"WOW THAT'S SO GREAT, JUST SO GREAT."

Jimmy is always over-hyped.

That's hard to take seriously coming from you, because to be honest if it wasn't ,you wouldn't say so anyway.

I personally think they did okay too.

wonderfulmonkeyman3105d ago

As if you've got room to talk after all the times you've given passes to everyone BUT Nintendo for things that deserve criticism.

_-EDMIX-_3105d ago (Edited 3105d ago )

@wond- I give my fair share of criticism of all companies, even companies I personally like

Consider lot of the criticisms that are faced by Nintendo are by a lot of its fans as they're going to be.

I'm still purchasing the switch just like I purchased the 3DS. My greatest issue with you is simply that there are things that this company does that is wrong. All companies have things that they do that were pretty big mistakes, you happen to be one of the very few users on this site that seems to disregard almost every major mistake this company has made even ones that are extremely obvious you're actually still trying to argue against a 190 million users not returning to purchase Nintendo Hardware despite it being simple math

That's a lot of people that used purchase Nintendo Hardware that might have realistic criticisms.

I still criticize Publishers like Capcom despite me going to purchase titles like Resident Evil 7.

I still criticized Hello Games despite purchasing no man's sky.

I still criticize The Witcher 3 when it had a series of issues despite purchasing it day one.

The reality is you could still like a company's games all while still addressing specific issues that they have you just have to learn to detach yourself during the conversation you seem to get literally emotional about it even going so far as to bring up other companies as if it has anything to do with the current topic.

ie "oh I see, so when Sony or Microsoft or Activision" etc

Fyi- I'm the one that even saying that they did a good job on The Tonight Show......

Sooooo yea

wonderfulmonkeyman3105d ago (Edited 3104d ago )

"you're actually still trying to argue against a 190 million users not returning to purchase Nintendo Hardware despite it being simple math "

And you're still doing the same for all those PS2 and PS3 users that didn't instantly upgrade to a PS4, let alone the Pro or ANY of Sony's handhelds, so again, quit with the hypocrisy.

Edit; yet another long essay about how you don't do something, while making every excuse in the book for doing it.
I distinctly remember you brushing off anyone who criticised you for not holding Sony's userbase accountable for not upgrading during our talks regarding the Wii U.
You kept focusing back on Nintendo's lack of ability to bring those players to the Wii U as if it were a sign that they are dying, while giving out excuses to cover Sony going through the same thing and not reaching the same doomed conclusion.
Acknowledging that Sony lost market share, but never acknowledging that that meant a downward spiral, while doing the exact opposite in regards to Nintendo, using it as a sign that Nintendo's on the way out of consoles altogether. You've been doing such things for a while now.

_-EDMIX-_3104d ago (Edited 3104d ago )

@wonder- nope

The PlayStation 2 lost that market share with Microsoft entered the market with a more solid product with the 360.

I've never refuted that in fact you could look up all my comments I've never once stated that wasn't correct.

Sony loss massive market share in the handheld Market as well that is never been debated by me again you could look up all my comments

So I'm not entirely sure how you're saying I'm doing the same simply because I've never stated that was incorrect or that never happened.

I did.

in fact even in the PlayStation 4 articles I've made a note that it may not surpass the PlayStation 2 simply because that market share was likely permanently lost in those consumers are elsewhere.

You can't just say that I'm doing anything similar with zero proof.

You debated significance of the 190 million lost, I never actually debated the Lost market share of the PlayStation 2 in fact very recently I brought it up.

I literally said I do not believe the PlayStation 4 is going to surpass the PlayStation 2 simply because it to Lost market share in Microsoft has lots of those consumers as well as Nintendo.

So no. I know you would like to believe that simple narrative but the reality is all you have to do is look up my comments I've never once refuted or even debated those lost sales the reality is it would be a miracle if Sony ever created a handheld in fact I don't even think they should waste their time on that market any longer.

I'm sorry but I've never done that. Even with liking the PlayStation platforms it is very clear that the PlayStation 2 lost market share because Microsoft entering the market even with me liking the PlayStation handhelds it's very clear that Sony lost an extreme amount of market share with the Playstation Vita and probably shouldn't make another handheld.

Am I still doing that? Are you still desperately trying to make it sound like I'm taking sides even though I'm technically saying the same thing for both companies? Lol

What I'm saying simply has to do with math. That's it.

If anything you could go ahead and quote my comments....

Fallon isn't in charge of anything. Its up to Nintendo to show why they are selling the Switch in the first place.

MoveTheGlow3105d ago

The target audience for a Fallon show isn't going to care about in-depth looks at what the new LoZ can do - it's about "There's a new Zelda, it's open-world, oh and it's on this new system." Three things, everything else is icing on the cake. It's the difference between selling only to a dedicated gaming crowd and selling a console successfully. It's a pitch, and the pitch wasn't bad.

1f y0u're a gh0st ca11 me here! review - ChristCenteredGamer

CCG writes - "Overall, this isn't a game I really enjoyed, though I did find the mix of visual novel and memory match gameplay interesting. It's technically sound aside from some UI issues. Morally, it has mild language concerns and mentions of the undead are frequent. If you like memory match games and don't mind it being mated to a visual novel, then this title is worth checking out."
