Halo is such a beast that the author bought the Xbox just for that
Shieeee nice.

This will definitely be great for those that game on PC and consoles. But yeah, you won’t need the Xbox in the future if you are primarily a PC gamer and like Xbox games.

If you're primarily a console gamer then it won't really make much of a difference unless there's crossplay.

darthv722913d ago

I am primarily a console gamer simply because I like the ease of just plug and play. No worrying about needing a certain class of gpu / cpu / apu. The games just... work.

I had my days with the PC. doing lan parties and file sharing and playing counter strike and unreal tournament. fun times but that was then... this is now and it's much cheaper now to just buy a set top box and game on. Halo coming to PC means there is the potential for console and PC players to compete with/against one another. More players is never a bad thing, just like having options is a good thing.

PC enthusiasts generally don't dive that deeply into the console realm but they do dip their toe in for various games not found on the PC. Console enthusiasts may have a gaming PC but it is the simplicity of the console that keeps them rooted to that side despite the improvements that a PC can deliver.

Trade offs... everybody has them.

Kleptic2913d ago

I'm primarily back into PC gaming more or less (meaning I spend way less time gaming in general than I used to...adulting sucks)...grew up on PC, then had a family PC and a PS1, PC only, then had PS3 w/ no gaming PC, now PC only again.

I don't think Halo on PC will have as big of an impact as many make it out to. It wasn't a big deal the first time it was tried, primarily because Halo's significance is entirely related to how 'well' it plays on a console...the entire feel of the series, and pacing, etc., does not translate well into PC imo.

but, to each their own...I think its pretty obvious that fans of the series get the platform they need to enjoy it...and that was never a PC...the advantages of a PC in no way 'expand' on Halo...and people talking about cross-platfrom this and that; I promise, no xbox owners want PC players in their matches with a mouse and keyboard. If they do something like forcing a controller on PC for the cross platform play, then barely anyone will do it to begin with.

NewMonday2913d ago

still not enough to force me to use W10

dogga942913d ago

why is this getting so many upvotes... Its like saying macs are better. No consoles are not better in any way. They are easy to use but that means that are worse in basically every possible way. PC have better graphics, better ping, dedicated servers, more options, better communities, keyboard and mouse. I could go on... PC's really arnt that difficult and in the long run there cheaper anyway..

Omnislashver362913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

Only thing I won't like is how they implement keyboard and mouse. Even if they restrict matches vs controller, you're still splitting the userbase, which is getting a lesser experience. If they don't, it's unfair. Either way it's a lose lose situation. They should make the game controller-required. It's a great way for them to profit, be fair, and to make PC still feel like an Xbox experience.

Khaotic2913d ago

The PC gamers would just create a MOD to bypass controller tequirements

GMR_PR2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

People act like this is the first time Halo is on PC :/

I guess if you have a capable PC which most of people don't, then you don't need an Xbox.

_-EDMIX-_2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

SHOCK /s

Pretty sure I called this MONTHS ago based on what Phil and MS have been saying. Thought such a thing wasn't going to happen Sep?

We still holding on to other titles are we finally willing to understand this company is bringing all titles to PC?

In your words ". Would be a silly move imo."

iTechHeads2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

Halo 5 is not a good game IMO. (Multiplayer is OK but doesn't compare to something like Black Ops 3)
Franchise peaked at around Halo 2/3 days...

I think if they bring Halo to PC, it would be because they need higher sales since the franchise has been declining ever since 343 took over.

Gazondaily2913d ago

Lol you're comparing Halo 5's mp to Black Ops 3 and think the latter is better? Yeah your taste in FPS' is way off IMO.

ShottyatLaw2913d ago

Boy, you are really into COD. I don't agree with your opinion regarding H5 multiplayer (best FPS MP this gen IMO), but I'll give you credit for being a dedicated fan of COD.

As far as going to PC at some point, of course the goal would be to sell more by releasing on PC. Also, H4 sold millions more than ODST and was on par with Reach.

spicelicka2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

Lol sorry but Halo 5 has the best multiplayer this gen, for many people. Majority of the comments will say this because it's just true.

ShottyatLaw2913d ago

I got excited that they had announced Halo Online or at least MCC coming to PC, but is this just about Forge coming to PC? What are the news and reports the author is discussing?

spicelicka2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

I agree. This will be true for gamers that own a capable PC. But most gamers who have an Xbox don't have both Xbox and PC, so they will remain the same. Then there are the console gamers who will decide between XB1, PS4 and Wii-U (or NX), those people will remain undeterred by this because if they really want Halo they will still buy an Xbox, I think majority is in this category.

How much this will affect Xbox sales remains to be seen. But we have to understand MS isn't stupid, they wouldn't just kill off the Xbox, they obviously have some kind of plan that goes along with this.

I personally couldn't care as long as I get to play Halo somewhere, and I think most people feel the same way.

mochachino2913d ago

The author must really like Halo to spend $400 on it.

RashBandicoot2913d ago

It wasn't just Halo. On my 360 I enjoyed a lot of games as I mentioned similar to Lost Odyssey. But none of the exclusives that came so far left an impression on me. Hence I only switch it on for Halo.

gdogg9792913d ago

Dude that's fair enough , but ultimately Microsoft aren't losing anything in this instance. As they dont make much if anything on the hardware anyway.

If you continue to buy halo on windows 10 then all stays the same.

Eidolon2913d ago

Halo 5 left an impression? OR you're still playing the crap out of old games?

DLConspiracy2913d ago

I have friends on all systems so getting rid of a console means getting rid of friends. Which I won't do. So if you have zero friends on Xbox I would say donate the console to a kid who would appreciate it for gaming.

Although, there will probably come a time that something will come out on xb1 that you will kick yourself for not keeping it. Its not like all games come to PC. I typically only play the exclusives on my PS4. I play mostly MP and exclusives on Xbox One. I collect games I love on PC, exclusives, early access, rpgs and graphics intensive games on PC too.

yomfweeee2913d ago

@gdogg

Microsoft doesn't make much profit on Xbox hardware true, but they make their money off every game sold for the system. Every game including third party. That is not true for PC games. They will miss out on a lot of software income.

BlackTar1872913d ago

do you have to pay for Xbox live on PC?

ShadowKnight2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

@BlackTar187 I have a feeling Microsoft might try to change that. I hope not.

lastking952913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

I'm pretty sure they get some cut of pc games (at least the xbox windows 10 ms studio games) would ms get nothing for halo 6 pc sales? Yeah if ms cuts a deal with 3rd party studio to exclusively make a game for w10 pc and xbox they can potentially get a cut.(pending on the deal)

Not on Windows store they don't lol that's why many love steam.

Lennoxb632913d ago

They won't make much profit selling their games on PC either. Seeing as PC games range from 15 to 45 dollars days/weeks after release.

starchild2913d ago

Maybe so. But even if I, as a PC gamer, were to buy an XB1 it's not like I would start buying multiplats for it. No, I would buy a couple of exclusives and that's it. So they're really not missing out on anything but the console sale, which they don't make a lot of money off anyway.

Either way, I respect that Microsoft is giving me the option to buy their games without having to buy another piece of hardware I otherwise don't need.

mochachino2912d ago

But people will still buy consoles.

But still you need Windows to play Halo

2913d ago
WhoCaresWhatMyNameIs2913d ago

But PC requires Windows to run Halo.

Hold_It2913d ago

Windows is made and owned by Microsoft, as is Xbox. Both use Directx which is present in Windows games and Xbox games.

2pacalypsenow2913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

You cant play games made for Windows on an Xbox unless they are ported over to Xbox, so they are not the same no says "hey it says Made for windows I can play it on my Xbox."

game4funz2913d ago

but you still need windows...part of that license built in or not goes to microsoft.

343_Guilty_Spark2913d ago

Windows is on Xbox and they both will use the same storefront after the merger.

MachuchalBrotha3162913d ago

2pac is right, Windows is a different platform than Xbox. Windows is a PC Os, Xbox is a Windows/DX device. Windows 10 is unifying the devices in one eco so I can see why they disagreed with you.

WhoCaresWhatMyNameIs2913d ago

@2pacalypsenow

That's the point of unifying platform on Windows and Microsoft. Both games will be available on both platforms from here on out. Microsoft is still winning regardless.

JasonKCK2913d ago

"Windows is not Xbox" Yeah it is now. Last gen no, this gen both are just Windows platforms.

+ Show (4) more repliesLast reply 2913d ago
343_Guilty_Spark2913d ago

Correction you need a Windows 10 OS and HAVE to buy from the Windows Store.

Timesplitter142913d ago (Edited 2913d ago )

I can't believe there are people who have reached such unimaginably insane depths of fanboyism that they really believe that this whole thing is about COMPANY allegiances and not just about SYSTEM allegiances.

Don't get me wrong; system allegiance is dumb... but company allegiance? That's TURBO-DUMB

starchild2913d ago

Most fanboyism in gaming really does revolve around companies if you think about it. People tend to keep buying and hyping products from the same companies over and over.

I agree, though, that it's all dumb.

BitbyDeath2913d ago

Yep, but you won't need to buy the console.

If enough people switch then MS will have no need to make them anymore.

It's a test of strength.

Master Chief finally becomes Master Race.

Hold_It2913d ago

Halo 1 was on PC/Mac/Xbox Original, Halo 2 was on Original Xbox, and was Windows Exclusive to Windows Vista. This isn't the first time Halo is on PC/Windows.

Mikefizzled2913d ago

Hell, Halo Online is still playable right now even though the development has ceased.

_-EDMIX-_2913d ago

Agreed, if anything....Master Chief is finally RETURNS TO MASTER RACE! lol

I played well over 200 if not more hours in Halo 1 and 2 on PC back in the day! I remember the rumors of Bungie leaving (which in some respect were true) and wanted MS to buy Gearbox to continue the Halo series.

That was also when I was a young lad that didn't really know that porting and creating were not the same thing. My current self would have lashed out at my younger self for assuming such a thing lol.

I now know the error of my ways. Would LOVE to play MCC on PC, keyboard and mouse is my preferred way to play Halo. I'm not even sure I would care for the series as much considering this was well over 10 years ago. For the right price, I would still give it a shot though.

If this is true, it will crush everything for the price.

If you had every PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP and PSV game then sure but I mean if it's just the PS4 why not just get a Steam Deck?

MeteorPanda14m ago

I still play my vita. The oled screen was too good for it's time. I obviously had to home brew it but playing my old snes/ps1 games on it is so good.

So that’ll be £1000 with a zen 5 cpu and god know what graphics card

Good one

Also now they have promised cod on nintendos systems, the switch 2 might become VERY popular as a cod console with the kids, tethering it to their 5g phones, or the schools WiFi hehehe

chicken_in_the_corn12h ago

Don't believe it. The documents from the FTC case say 2028 and that holds more weight than this.

ThinkThink10h ago

I think they are going to drop a handheld next year and a next gen console the year after. I think it'll be one sku though at launch

Zeref10m ago

A lot of things in that document turned out to be cancelled plans though. We should have seen the digital series X by now and the new controller.

Sonic18811h ago(Edited 1h ago)

Microsoft has a long ways to go when it comes to the gaming industry

ravens521h ago

This is another thing MS is doing that I don't like. Like chill, foster your teams and try to make the beginning of some good series on the already powerful series x. They are trying to rush this gen. It's coming up on four years. So this gens life will be 5 years and on the 6th the next gen will be released? Stupid. Makes no sense especially seeing how long everyone has supported the Ps4 and Xbox 1. Annoying.

OtterX1h ago

Yea, they have had terrible 1st party support for 2 gens now. Why would anyone rush out to get this new XBox, especially when they plan to bring the games they do have to Playstation? I love PS5 + Switch + PC. I don't see the point of an XBox console at all.

Reaper22_1h ago

Perhaps some people like playing games on xbox.

Einhander19721h ago

So, Microsoft has sold less consoles than the previous gen the past two generations with this most recent generation falling off the most. And in this current generation the most popular console by far is the least expensive one. But they are going to try to push out another console that is supposedly powerful not the thing that actually worked for them a cheap game pass console...

And they are going to come out with this thing when the PS5 Pro will be on the market so it's unlikely that they will be able to make any significant power gains. Certainly not to the point that PlayStation 5 won't be able to play the games. Heck we see how long the PS4 has stayed relevant, PS4 games will still be getting released in 2026. And given their console sales track record no publisher under the sun is going to skip PlayStation to make games for xbox. And with the way Microsoft is positioning themselves as such a rival publisher I can't imagine many publishers really looking to prop xbox up. Heck we hear rumors of publishers skipping xbox for releases.

If this is actually true, this thing is DOA.
