This will definitely be great for those that game on PC and consoles. But yeah, you won’t need the Xbox in the future if you are primarily a PC gamer and like Xbox games.

If you're primarily a console gamer then it won't really make much of a difference unless there's crossplay.

I am primarily a console gamer simply because I like the ease of just plug and play. No worrying about needing a certain class of gpu / cpu / apu. The games just... work.

I had my days with the PC. doing lan parties and file sharing and playing counter strike and unreal tournament. fun times but that was then... this is now and it's much cheaper now to just buy a set top box and game on. Halo coming to PC means there is the potential for console and PC players to compete with/against one another. More players is never a bad thing, just like having options is a good thing.

PC enthusiasts generally don't dive that deeply into the console realm but they do dip their toe in for various games not found on the PC. Console enthusiasts may have a gaming PC but it is the simplicity of the console that keeps them rooted to that side despite the improvements that a PC can deliver.

I'm primarily back into PC gaming more or less (meaning I spend way less time gaming in general than I used to...adulting sucks)...grew up on PC, then had a family PC and a PS1, PC only, then had PS3 w/ no gaming PC, now PC only again.

I don't think Halo on PC will have as big of an impact as many make it out to. It wasn't a big deal the first time it was tried, primarily because Halo's significance is entirely related to how 'well' it plays on a console...the entire feel of the series, and pacing, etc., does not translate well into PC imo.

but, to each their own...I think its pretty obvious that fans of the series get the platform they need to enjoy it...and that was never a PC...the advantages of a PC in no way 'expand' on Halo...and people talking about cross-platfrom this and that; I promise, no xbox owners want PC players in their matches with a mouse and keyboard. If they do something like forcing a controller on PC for the cross platform play, then barely anyone will do it to begin with.

Only thing I won't like is how they implement keyboard and mouse. Even if they restrict matches vs controller, you're still splitting the userbase, which is getting a lesser experience. If they don't, it's unfair. Either way it's a lose lose situation. They should make the game controller-required. It's a great way for them to profit, be fair, and to make PC still feel like an Xbox experience.

Halo 5 is not a good game IMO. (Multiplayer is OK but doesn't compare to something like Black Ops 3)
Franchise peaked at around Halo 2/3 days...

I agree. This will be true for gamers that own a capable PC. But most gamers who have an Xbox don't have both Xbox and PC, so they will remain the same. Then there are the console gamers who will decide between XB1, PS4 and Wii-U (or NX), those people will remain undeterred by this because if they really want Halo they will still buy an Xbox, I think majority is in this category.

How much this will affect Xbox sales remains to be seen. But we have to understand MS isn't stupid, they wouldn't just kill off the Xbox, they obviously have some kind of plan that goes along with this.

I personally couldn't care as long as I get to play Halo somewhere, and I think most people feel the same way.

I have friends on all systems so getting rid of a console means getting rid of friends. Which I won't do. So if you have zero friends on Xbox I would say donate the console to a kid who would appreciate it for gaming.

Although, there will probably come a time that something will come out on xb1 that you will kick yourself for not keeping it. Its not like all games come to PC. I typically only play the exclusives on my PS4. I play mostly MP and exclusives on Xbox One. I collect games I love on PC, exclusives, early access, rpgs and graphics intensive games on PC too.

Microsoft doesn't make much profit on Xbox hardware true, but they make their money off every game sold for the system. Every game including third party. That is not true for PC games. They will miss out on a lot of software income.

I played well over 200 if not more hours in Halo 1 and 2 on PC back in the day! I remember the rumors of Bungie leaving (which in some respect were true) and wanted MS to buy Gearbox to continue the Halo series.

That was also when I was a young lad that didn't really know that porting and creating were not the same thing. My current self would have lashed out at my younger self for assuming such a thing lol.

I now know the error of my ways. Would LOVE to play MCC on PC, keyboard and mouse is my preferred way to play Halo. I'm not even sure I would care for the series as much considering this was well over 10 years ago. For the right price, I would still give it a shot though.

These articles aren't about that, the article is solely about the use of the Xbox in the console realm for gamers that own a PC. I would say based on their concept of the UWP, it's a pretty safe bet the xbox won't be necessary to enjoy Microsoft games but rather just an inexpensive means of getting into their games. The only real reason you should still consider it would be 3rd party games that either don't have PC releases (older Halo/Forza games), or are console-to-PC ports that run better on console.

Well everyone is entitled to his or her opinion on the subject, but as the consoles (yes ps4, xbox1) are now just a full on pc. It's really comes down to either a turn key system like the consoles, a boutique vendor, or build one yourself. I personally enjoy the console environment and as long as they keep updating the machines, I'm fine with that. If rumors are true on the more powerful Xbox and the price is right, then I'll pick one up. It won't surprise me if mouse and keyboard support will come out for the xbox and even the playing field on crossover games. The only thing that I can see a problem with, is cheating. Yes their is some cheating with consoles, but one of the big advantages was the more stable playing environment. I haven't played a pc games online in a long while so don't know if that problem was ever solved. But the way things are going we'll find out soon, like it or not.

I'll...stick to consoles.I get where you are coming from,but my experience with pc gaming was rough.COnsoles are just way more laid back,i was so addicted to running fraps and messing around with settings to get a locked 60fps,at times certain things just wouldn't work and i'd have to spend hours searching for fixes till the point when i had enough and just rebooted the pc again and again, constantly buying steam games and never playing them(yes that's a negative for me,too many games too damn cheao you just are forced to buy them,i rarely finished my games.When i went back to playing on console it was a breath of fresh air just switching it on and playing and not having to worry about anything.But one thing i want to say is my gaming set up which i sold to my friend r9 290x,i73770k,8gb ram 1tb ect,i used it for 3 straight years and that rig is still beast till this day so it's definitely a myth that you have to always upgrade.But anyways, playstation,xbox and nintendo consoles for me.

K, $1000 vs what...maybe $500 for a new console that you don't need to upgrade every 5 months...that is rumored to be compatible with Occulus (most computers compatible with Occulus seem to be $1500 or higher). Still, most people don't want to hassle with all that. So will it persuade some people not to get an X1 (or PS4...let's not forget most PS games are also on PC), sure, but by no means is it going to persuade a lot of people. If games being on PC means death to consoles, then X1 and PS4 wouldn't crush PC in multiplats sales.

The year was 2007(i think lol) halo 3 just released. I kept seeing so much hype for it and talk. I had ps2 and was a ps gamer. Saving up for nextgen. Played on ps3 and 360 at friends houses, both great consoles. Im split on which to buy a few more of friends had 360s so i was leaning that way. While i saved up i played nxtgen games on pc. Decided to buy halo ce for pc......hooked after just the second mission. Ran to GS for halo 2....Vista only😭 had to continue my halo experience so i bought 360 iver ps3 and halo 3 as my first game for it rest is history.

I ask myself if halo 2 and 3 was playable on my pc would i have still bought 360 over ps3? I can't say yeah but can't say no either. I'm glad i did as i had so many great times but there's a chance all that wouldn't have been. Knowing what i know now even i got a rewind and they were on pc I'd still go with 360 but back then i didn't know what i would have missed and probably went ps3. I personally think MS focus on unifying pc and xbox is a great thing and should combine the online portion too. It's a win win with no down side.

That's really the root of this whole thing. People keep seeing it from a fanboy perspective and thinking it's somehow a bad thing for MS....MS sees both as their children. Halo sold more consoles and brought in more revenue, even with a 2 to 1 console base ratio, UC4 is less than 500k copies sold more than H5 in the first week...then took a much sharper decline than Halo 5 in the second week....try again.

It also seems that Halo 5 sold a lot more digital copies than UC4 (no solid confirmation as far as I know yet, but it makes sense being that most people play UC games just for the SP then return it, where as most people play Halo for MP which has longer longevity).

UC4 has been out for 2 weeks, and is already down to #6 best seller on amazon. Halo 5 came out in October, and a console bundle with Halo 5 is #27 with Halo 5 by itself at #37. Not bad for 7 months and not being a "system seller"

Sure, you can play 3rd party games on an X1, but if you have a PC or a PS4, which I do, then there is a platform that will play those games better. Therefore the only reason I own an X1 is for exclusives which predominately consist of Gears, Halo and Forza (Sunset Overdrive was awesome though). I wouldn't feel this way if they had more exclusives, but they don't.

The way it looks the next rumored Xbox will be pretty beefy. If priced at $400 to $450 it may very well be worth it instead of buying an equivalent gaming rig for roughly double the price. If it only lasts four years before an upgrade is needed so be it. IF that's how console life cycles are going that is fine as long as there is complete backward compatibility then I am all for it. This will work both ways as well with more; what used to be pc only games being put out on Xbox consoles...A total win win regardless of how you like to play your games.

This is really an opinion piece, you omit every other franchise (most of which have higher aggregate scores than Sony) Microsoft owns, claiming they are effectively making themselves obsolete by increasing their software sales by extending it to PC. Software sales even in previous generations was the key indicator of profitability via the console market, Sony has sold more consoles worldwide but no one has compared U.S. sales or even mentions software sales. I'm sure if Uncharted was port to PC no one would give up their PS4's, silly definition of click bait, can anyone else see how this makes lemmings out of consumer polarization?
