Why Rocket League Is Fast Becoming One Of The Most Important Video Games Of This Generation

I cant stop playing Rocket Labs and hockey, think I have only played a couple ranked matches. Those modes are just way too much fun. Cant wait for basketball in the spring.

IF... PSN and XBL were to allow this game to cross play, how would each side handle the exclusive vehicles that would not be present on the other? Meaning a warthog on the XB1 version playing against something on the PS4.

Would the server revert to using a generic vehicle for that person as seen on the other players screen????

That would be a weird way around it surely they would just show the vehicle it wouldn't be too difficult to render it even if the other players couldn't use it

They would have to do an update to the console games so that the files exist but can't be used. If your version doesn't have the exclusive content the you can't see it when playing again it

I'm sure they can figure it out. Watch dog is kind of a good example, everyone is Aiden but to other players your a random generated character.

They could potentially just make it that whenever an exclusive vehicle is being used it just defaults to the other console exclusive vehicle for them. So xbox players see xbox exclusive regardless. Who knows though

It just reverts back to a default vehicle. The Sweet Tooth car doesn't isn't in the PC version. Players playing as Sweet Tooth show up as a Merc I believe.

I think Rocketleague could potentially be remember as the game that started the console to console crossplay on competing platforms and usher a new era of of 'it is OK to play against a rival console' and end this imaginary console war.

I do hope that XB1 and PS4 players can play Rocket League together in the near future and we on N4G can form two clans, Xbox players and PS4 players, and have some friendly competiton. It is hard for me to choose a side if that ever happens of course as I love both brands and consoles equally.

So instead of wanting N4G to be one comunity of gamers who play on their prefered medium, you want to split it in 3? Xbox gamers versus PS$ gamers vs PC gamers. that will only ignite the stupid console war that already is happening.

Rocket league isn't there to split gamers against eachother becuase of their console, its to bring everyone together to play and enjoy it. and if it were split then the trolls will run rampant from under their bridges.

I admired this game when it first released, been playing Battlefield 4 and Black Ops 3 over that time period.

Now that the game is out on X1, I have been playing nothing but it! I also love playing with my room mate on 2v2 against other players, such an awesome $20 game!

This game is unbelievable. It's got its hooks in me bad. I got it free on ps+ first but then bought all the dlc. I have since bought it on PC and Xbox one. I mostly play on the Xbox one now but it's great wherever you're playing. I just want rocket labs on the Xbox.

Rocket League was one of those games that I thought yeah I've seen this kind of thing before, I don't need it... then I played it at a friend's house... the following day I'm glued to the screen. It's a well executed, simple idea, that the developers clearly care about and are proud of, absolute recipe for success.

If every 3rd party game was cross play (and ideally cross platform) I would buy way more games.

Not buying the Division because I want it on PC (I have a PS4 but really don't want to deal with 30 FPS and lower settings anymore). My two friend who would play it are on PS4. So none of us bought it.

Same thing with Fifa and Rainbow Six. Pretty much pass on most MP based games unless my PC friends get it but the majority of my friends are still on console.

I admire these devs and they are deservedly, one of the greatest success stories this gen.

But oh boy, I remember when it was just a dumb indie game mockingly labelled "Soccer Cars". I remember when people laughed at those who called it a GOTY contender and those who shared the opinion that it was one of the greatest PS4 games of 2015. I also remember when the indie games in general were being absolutely crapped on by the same folks who are now saying they love Rocket League.

It's funny to see how things can go 180 so quickly. Frankly I don't want to play against those people, but I wouldn't deny progression in the industry and cross-platform play is definitely progression. Just a shame Microsoft has been blocking it for so long.
