The Division beta: the good, the bad and the ugly - VG247

After sampling the beta, Team VG247 weighs in on Ubisoft’s massively multiplayer shooter. After all the talk we finally got a chance to play Ubisoft’s massively multiplayer online shooter The Division this weekend.

Good review all round apart from it being like Destiny and the dark zone comments with regards to loot.

I found just as good loot out of the dark zones to be honest, that mission you could do on hard gave out blues with some sweet stats, the more I played it the more decent loot I found just like any other mmo.

The division as an mmo is obviously in a bracket of its own, I got fed up of the alpha, beta and then final release one month in of Destiny, God knows why I went and bought Destiny in the first place but I tried it and just couldn't get on with it. The division though from the alpha and the beta has me pumped more n more I just can not wait.

I feel u isoft and the four dev teams involved in the division have really just got it more than rite here where Activision and bunjie got it wrong. What annoyed a lot of people in Destiny was fact solo players who didn't have huge friends playing Destiny just could not do some of the content, Destiny was so very unsociable that it wouldn't connect randoms for a large amount of the final content that required teams. Players who were happy who had huge friends list couldn't see the fuss but anyone who has ever played mmo games across all platforms know's that connecting randoms to raids has always been the way. Speaking of the raids the one in the beta connecting randoms beautifully. The game itself, the division is setting itself up to be the very sociable game Destiny just could not be, if anything Ubisoft knew peoples gripes with Destiny and set out to not make those same mistakes.

Dark zones set this very gritty, very twisted and very unforgiving type of game play ahead, that's why I love it. But even as a solo player you can go in and do some own age to even groups of four players it only takes some thinking and watching and you can have two to three members of the squad down before they've had chance to fire. Dark zones deffo set the atmosphere and they even look like crap to where you know and feel like all he'll has broken lose or about to.

I could go on for ever but to be honest I've always been a huge Tom Clancy fan in regards to games and been a Ubisoft fan. I love the whole terrorist , espionage games they do.

I agree with all you said with the exception of Destiny, I played the Alpha and Beta and decided to opt out of the retail experience because of your reasoning behind why you feel how you feel towards destiny... also, that dialogue was horrible and tacking that robotic filter on his voice showed how tacky the overall experience would be for me. But I loved the alpha, beta experience in the division and sheeeesh I can't wait to taste more. I played it for around an hour or so just to get a taste for it on Monday, now that I know that I like it, I will be getting it day 1 after work for sure.

I find the game good and questionanable. Enjoyed alpha, but into the beta i'm wondering if the the game could be repetetive and empty. Throwing in a few missions here and there might not make up for the missing areas(buroughs)

I am optimistic but this is Ubisoft so it will most likely have the Ubisoft Repititive Formula (URF) Syndrome.

Its available in every Ubisoft game so i doubt it will disappear now.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno393d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
