Who knows. He might like anything that puts music into someone's hands and the possibility of transitioning into real guitar. That is what I did. Went from Guitar Hero, to Rock Band and now Rocksmith 2014 over the time of 6-7 years.

Jimi might be impressed with rocksmith, but I doubt rockband or guitar hero would do anything for him.

And I am positive that rockband did absolutely nothing to make you a better guitar player or help you transition to guitar. I say this because I too play guitar and rocksmith.
