Top 10 Best-Selling PlayStation 3 Games

VGChartz's William D'Angelo: "Today we take a look at the top 10 best-selling games for the PlayStation 3. Up to this point we have looked at the original PlayStation, the Nintendo 64, the PlayStation 2, the original Xbox, the GameCube, the Nintendo DS, the PSP, and the Nintendo Wii. This week it's the turn of Nintendo's most popular home console, the Xbox 360.

The PlayStation 3 is the sixth best-selling video game platform in history and the fourth best-selling home console in gaming history. It is also the third best-selling home console by Sony, behind the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, and has thus far sold 85.96 million units lifetime."

GTAV was a beast with more than a 20% attach rate.

I_am_Batman3098d ago

Literally half of the list consists of CoD games. No wonder Activision keeps pumping them out every year. Funnily I don't own any of those games on the list.

Foehammer3098d ago (Edited 3098d ago )

True

9 out of the 10 are actually 3rd party, but COD is dominant.

6 FPS in total

FlexLuger3098d ago

wow...if GT was not on there I would have sworn, that was an X360 list. This list kind of kills the notion that people buy consoles for exclusives.

nix3098d ago

Flex, sadly yes. I would also want to see more exclusives up on that list. I personally buy for exclusives. 80% of my games are exclusives.

I don't have any CODs or BFs. I got GTAIV, got burnt. Skipped GTAV.

If they write an article on Top 10 Best-Selling PlayStation 2 Games they would mostly be exclusives since Sony had all the best exclusives in the PS2 era. Sony lost a lot of their exclusives after the PS3 release.

rocketleague3098d ago

Always weird to think that the most popular first party game by Sony is Gran Turismo. Always seems so forgotten

Imalwaysright3098d ago

By the sales it had it doesn't seem like people forget about it. Also, I think that is common knowledge that GT is the most important Sony franchise.

_-EDMIX-_3098d ago

Its one of the most important Sony franchises.

rocketleague3098d ago

I know it's near common knowledge but it just seems to not generate the hype that series like Uncharted does considering the sales

Imalwaysright3098d ago (Edited 3098d ago )

_-EDMIX-_

Nah It's the most important Sony franchise.

PS1

PS2

PS3

GT is without any doubt Sony's flagship franchise and has been since their 1st console.

_-EDMIX-_3098d ago

They can have more then one important franchise....

The PS doesn't just die with no GT as GT is not even half of PS's sales, its not even near that.

What...15 million or so per PS console.....out of systems that do 80 to 100 million? lol.

Its important to PS, yes....but many series are, combined they all help PS sales. Series like Uncharted are just as if you combine the sales of the series thus far.

I'm not doubting their importance, merely that Sony has more then 1 important franchise.

Imalwaysright3098d ago

Did I say that Sony only had one important franchise? All I'm saying is that GT is the most important Sony franchise.

"What...15 million or so per PS console.....out of systems that do 80 to 100 million? lol."

And Sony's other franchises managed to do less! How many "lol" does this statement deserve? lol... lol..lo..l... ?

I'm a bit sad to see only one exclusive on that list.

Start supporting first party titles and exclusives, darn it. Give incentive to make great sequels, not the annual releases that comprise like 70% of this list.

zodiac9093098d ago

Lists like these should be about best selling EXCLUSIVES for the console, Everyone knows/Doesn't care to see COD or GTA pop up several times.

_-EDMIX-_3098d ago

Those sales show otherwise. You can right now list the best selling if you want to, this article is not about that and we can have more then one list bud lol.

Also note....this is why I state 3rd party titles sell consoles, many don't want ot realize this fact, but MOST buy consoles for those titles.

Look at Wii U, no Fallout, no GTA, no Mass Effect 4, no COD, no Battlfront etc.

The systems that failed over the years, have been the systems with no 3rd party support.

Many might want to say systems sell due to exclusives....

What real numbers do we have to really support that claim? I've looked it up numerous times and I've yet to find a correlation from exclusives and sales. MOST times low sales might be due to lack of 3rd party, lack of a better performing system in regard to those 3rd parties, lack of world wide appeal, lack of diversity etc.

I've yet to find exclusives as the reason a system might have failed, as crazy as that sounds, only a few actually really buy a system solely for exclusives, those numbers show MOST buy them for 3rd parties.

zodiac9093098d ago

They could just make a separate list and I dunno maybe call it "Best selling Multiplatform Games"?? When they say "Best selling on a particular console", seeing what exclusives sold the best is way more interesting than seeing the same Multiplatform pop up on 100 lists. EVERYONE knows what the best selling series are anyway...We all know 3rd parties sell more consoles than Exclusives..

_-EDMIX-_3098d ago

"We all know 3rd parties sell more consoles than Exclusives" not all of us do as this site many times thinks exclusives sell platforms.

I disagree too, they are all interesting list, its cool to see what platforms games did the best on. Exclusive or otherwise.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing694d ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos3d ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius3d ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy853d ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius3d ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all

Morons that allow themselves to be milked continuously by this company is the definition of irony.
Spend more $$ and you'll end up In easier lobbies so you win both ways when ya spend that cash

Controversy in the COD community feels like it happens within an alternate timeline. Activision will take the piss with something, there will be a momentary fuss about it, and then they will forget about it and carry on anyway. Repeat this cycle literally every year for the rest of time.

Gridknac15d ago

They call that a crack head! Thats what this is really about, its an addiction. People who dont smoke cigarettes look and laugh at the addicts that spend $8-$10 a pack, but they cant help themselves, they are addicted. That same analogy applies perfectly to the whole MT industry. Only an addict that was not thinking clearly would spend this kind of money on something so frivolous. A round of multiplayer provides the same high a person gets from scratching a lotto ticket, or putting money on a sports bet. MT in general need to really be regulated because you have a generation of kids becoming adults who grew up only knowing the MT era of gaming. Its normal to them and they will in turn teach their kids the same by just being a gaming parent and getting their kids involved with them in gaming. Thats why no matter how ridiculous the headlines keep getting out of the MT industry, it never seems to fade or go away.

I'm so tired of hearing about what they're doing with this game, its never going to change and it's never going to value the consumer over money, furthermore the people who engage so heavily in the microtransactions I guess allegedly are having a blast and can't wait to do it some more this year when the new version of the game drops.
