Black Ops III eSports changes 'not borrowed from MOBAs', insists Treyarch

MMGN writes: Call of Duty: Black Ops III developer Treyarch is introducing a number of new features to the game's competitive element, with the series stalwart hoping to feed into the franchise's eSports growth.

Namely, the addition of a Ban & Protect system and Specialists Draft in the game's Arena and competitive components is raising comparisons to MOBAs of the League of Legends and DOTA 2 variety, with players having a more direct role in determining the rules and restrictions of a match.

However, while Treyarch understands how those comparisons can be made, the studio is adamant that its changes to Black Ops III's competitive elements haven't come out of any specific MOBA design philosophy.

Seems to me that Activision would want to stick with the casual gamer for CoD and just touch on the eSports arena. I mean the causal CoD brodude is what made them all that money.

But I'm not complaining, I hope this tanks the game. CoD needs to disappear for a few years and come back strong. Disagree all you want, it won't hurt my ego.

Was it really CoD Brodudes that made all their money or just a vast amount of people purchasing an arcade-y fast paced shooter that was seemingly released on virtually every gaming device during each time frame of release?

A game in order to get better needs immediate feedback from people who play it so the developer knows what to improve on.

I think a bigger issue that literally no one is bringing up for some unknown reason is that we have a huge franchise that is developed by what, 3 entirely different studios now? Correct me if i'm wrong on that number but the idea is ridiculous now a days.

That's like having a vehicle each year being developed by different car companies and expecting each one to be polished and perfected - quite the contrary, it just turns into a mess with an entirely different product that may or may not be a great one each and every year.

Call of Duty development, what's that? They just make the same basic game and keep adding more and more MT's

He probably should have stepped down 10 years ago.

Harkins1721254d ago

Might as well just quit your job now.

anast253d ago

I am sure you know what you are saying...I think.

He's a developer in one of the most successful franchises and works from Activision, do you know the benefits you get working there? Or the pay?

Half of the peasants on this site don't understand developers are humans and are working mostly for necessity like the rest of us

Stanjara254d ago

He couldn't have done another one.
Best of luck. Good decision.
