The affable and energetic executive speaks with a contagious enthusiasm for all things gaming, with an engaging tone and refreshing transparency. You'll rarely see him refuse a question and his praise for the positives of the medium are sincere and liberal - even it means bigging up the competition.
Sure, after the deeply troubled launch of Xbox One, Spencer could probably send his dog into work most days and still be taking the division in an upwards direction, but it's difficult to feel too cynical about the positive changes he's made in recent months.
Following the Xbox Gamescom media briefing, we met with Spencer to discuss the Tomb Raider deal, the future of Kinect and Xbox's digital future.
Microsoft & Xbox have shut down Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks to lay off more workers, insinuating that they're not in the game anymore.
They're headless for a long time because closing tango isn't exactly a good move
Everyone's acting now that game companies care about games and Xbox is committing the Ultimate betrayal, they are all like this and you have just been quiet about it for far too long
I wonder if Microsoft do pull out of the console market that it might open the door for valve to relaunch the Steambox. Competition is good for the industry but Microsoft don't even seem to be trying anymore.
“Your game has won some pretty significant awards and is a show piece for where we want to go in the future.”
1 hour later.
“We’re gonna have to let you go. You can’t cover our 100 billion dollar acquisition. Oh and take your awards too 👍🏾”
Fallout 76 players have dropped the big one on Phil Spencer in response to Xbox's closures of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks this week.
He said he treated the Xbox executive like the RPG's final boss
Somewhat fitting, Considering buying Bethesda was a complete selfish purchasing decision by himself just because he is a big Fallout fan he wanted to own the toy. Well quite frankly Microsoft should look at that and say you put your personal tastes in front of the business and it has backfired.
Todd Howard out hustled Phil. Howard is definitely in the top 3 all time hustlers in video game history.
Phil's game character properly looks like a villain too.

Really great interview.
So glad this guy's the face of Xbox now.
This guy is the perfect person to lead the xbox division. I love reading his interviews or listening to him whenever he is featurd in gaming podcasts.
From another interview after gamescom.
“Spencer knows that the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will
continue to be compared. "We shipped at the same time
and we're in direct competition with the PS4," he
admits. "I'm not going to duck that. I want to win. I
want to win this generation, but I want to win more than
I want the other guy to lose. I own a PS4, and it's not
like I want it to get dusty or not have games. But I do
want to sell a lot of Xbox Ones, and for many people
that's a direct competition with the PS4. As the Xbox
team, we are the underdog."
Great words from the head of xbox.... The link to the full article is below

The dude is legit.
phil spenders always reminds me of sneaky bill compton in true blood. comes around as the hero but who knows what he's up to ^^but whatever better choice than don mattrick by all means. if they get their games right and finally learn after this tomb raider debacle that financing their own games is the best way to go.
