Watch War Thunder Cross Play in Action

War Thunder recently sneaked in the update that finally allows for the highly anticipated cross play between PC and PS4 versions of the game. John (PC) and Daniel (PS4) team up and take the newly added tanks for a spin. Note that PS4 players are marked with a ‘*’ before their usernames which has been met some some opposition over fears that one group will be targeted, our very own Takuchat.com author Jamie is avoiding the PS4 version for that specific reason.

Yeah, I'd like to hear their reasoning for doing it. Having said that, from what I've seen there seems to be a good mix of PC and PS4 players on each team so it kinda balances out a bit that way.

In a sense it goes both ways.

The PC players has no * in the name, they could be specifically targeted to.

I agree though there should be no visible differences ingame.

That's true but 9 times out of 10 a PC player with m/job will beat a ps4 player using a controller.

I would say in FPS PC players have an advantage in turning speed i don't know with precision, but in a game like this it's equal.

I play a lot of my games on PC with controller if the game support it.

I have no problem competing against others where probably most playing M/K.

Stop labeling this as War Thunder when this makes up about 5% of the actual game.

* People are going to think this is a tank game when it's really a 95% planes game.

Dont' be mislead people. This isn't world of tanks and the tanks are a brand new edition and mode.

It's mostly dog fights and planes. I never even play this crap.

… and the game that Gaijin Entertainment have created is now an aircraft AND tank game. Just because you're not a fan of the new mode doesn't mean others aren't. ^_^

All 5 factions have planes, 2 have tanks currently (Americans are suppose to get some in the future). It's more around 28% of the game. Still a new part of it, but in the main logo is a tank...

And if you never played the single player portion of a game and only did MP, would you say there was no single player component to it?

This isn't a War Thunder review, this video is about the Cross Play feature so whether it's the War Thunder YOU know or not is completely irrelevant.

I would imagine the PS4 could also "target" the non PS4 players if the choose to.

True but there is still the problem of controllers Vs m/kb.

ive played with both. Controller seemed more natural for me but I think you can use a keyboard with the PS4. I havent tried it yet though.

I love cross play because it gives you more people to play with.

Take note Microsoft because I'm dying to play FF14 with Xbox fans.

Not only that, but it can actually keep the game alive. F2P games need as many players as possible to keep them going. I just got into War Thunder, literally only having played 2 matches. But, it seems very fun. However, I have been playing the crap out of Warframe, and I can say that the revenue from PC, PS4, and soon XB1 can keep that game thriving for a long time.

Awesome that the community on War Thunder has been bolstered by the playstation 4 players!

This cross platform play is the future for multiplatform games hopefully!

I hope we see lots more cross play in the future. H1Z1 would be nice for it I think as long as they allow PS4 users to also use M/KB.

Not entirely sure why they did this. Even with aim assist, I assume a mouse and keyboard pro is still going to dominate most PS4 players, and therefore putting a '*' in front of their name is just going to make them a target.

You would be surprised, manoeuvring an aircraft with a controller is so much better. Granted the shooting is harder but it is a trade off.

When it comes to the ground forces having a twitch aim is not that important, it is more about your positioning and knowing when to be aggressive/conservative than having a youtube montage aim.

I think it works for this game.

Ah, okay, thanks. Wasn't aware we had the advantage in some aspects. I'll give it a go this week and see how things pan out.
