Industry Insider Thuway has shared some new details on Team ICE performance boost for Playstation 4
I read the article and i am ashamed to say this or ask but how will this benefit me or improve my gaming. This is genuine question as all this talk of ps4 delta magnifying over the xbox one ????? does not really compute. Thanks in advance
I also want to know what all that really means to gaming.
As for 3rd party games, the funny thing PS4 is getting exclusives for free like DBZ and Samurai Warriors, Sony don't have to pay for them and just fund 1st party studios
Simply put, the PS4 was built with quite a bit of GPU Compute power. Which is to say the GPU can perform some computational tasks that would otherwise be handled by the CPU. It hasn't really been tapped yet, but Sony's ICE team are developing better tools to leverage it. GPU Compute is usually used for particle effects and/or some quite specific physics simulation (cloth and hair and such), but now that the consoles are embracing it the uses should expand. It's the most interesting part of the PS4 archetecture imo, and also their biggest gamble.

Think thuway is saying that because the ps4 has better gpu improvements made on gpu will benefit the ps4 more because it has a better gpu. Not sure but it doesn't seem that possible dx12 improvements are believed or compared with the ice team gpgpu rendering by thuway improvements. previous article on same subject: http://n4g.com/news/1512050...

I live in the us in florida I have a ps4 , 360 ,xb1,and pc, xb live and steam tags are boots2asses0903 ,ps4 is boots2aces0903. I'm not positive if that's the steam account but I'm pretty sure it is.

Technically you only have half the power of a proper 9 tails since you're dad had the the other half :P

It's not really more power, that's hardware locked. Think of it as more efficient use of the power ... unless they upclock the CPU and GPU. That's not out of the question. Then it WOULD be more power.
efficiency= more power to work with = "MORE POWER"
Increasing the available resource and using the resource you have more efficiently have the same end result. You could call that result "more power". Or "MORE POWER!" if that's your style.

looking forward to it...now..wheres my shadow of the beast, update...aint seen that game since last E3...hoping they use, give roger dean a call as he is the artists that gave the 16-bit originals their distinctive look. Roger dean draws some crazy landscapes..would love too see those landscapes rendered using PS4 power.
I remember when I was a kid my Dad had a Roger Dean book with loads of his artwork in it, it was amazing. The guy made some excellent album covers as well.
Thuway Thuway Thuway...we already know about this..stop reiterating what has already been said...You are wrong most of the time...or you regurgitate what was said hours earlier and pass it off as "insider information." As for performance increases...it is a welcome addition to the PS4 that they are tweaking their SDK and middleware tools. I don't expect to see any real performance gains in games until at least next year when they start using better tools. Most of what we all see now are launch titles.
Another day another thuway rumor :/ Why would they announce an sdk update to the public in the first place.... Well Mark Cerny don't put so much emphasises on GPGPU compute for no reason. Taking this with a massive grain of salt because it's thuway but the difference indeed could be become a lot bigger than now in some games depending on how devs start to use gpu compute it could be something like MGS:GV sky simulation or something bigger if a title heavy uses gpu compute.

That's my problem with him he's bias is too much for me to take anything he says seriously especially with the frequency of his info. At least with Mort even with his f***up I can still take me somewhat seriously with his info because his bias is clear and he doesn't try to defend it and he as better understand that this guy.

Parallel Computing is definitely the future! AMD's tests have shown over 2.4 times performance improvements for doing tasks with parallel computing. Microsoft has been pushing this idea for quite some time with AMP, but the PC has made its use much more difficult since the memory on PC's is not unified "basically they were faking/forcing Parallel Computing". Unified Memory is by far the biggest advantage next gen consoles have, and Parallel Computing "GPGPU" is the way you take advantage of it. This is also the reason most people are so hyped about DirectX 12. In DX12, you can flag a task to run parallel in an if statement that checks to see if the hardware can support it. For those wondering how it works, the memory in PS4/Xbox One has direct access by both the CPU and the GPU. This means you can use all your cores on both the CPU and the GPU to update the same memory bits. You have to think of them as one operating unit, there is no CPU and GPU, there is just a combined CPU/GPU superchip. At least as far as developers are concerned haha.
Typical vague crap once more from Thuway. Microsoft, has the big three AMD, Intel, and Nivida all appearing at the same, conference saying directx12 is the next step up. The DX12 reveal had one small segment about XB1's api porting to PC by Turn 10. Kayant early access for devs is early 2014, i heard June, but i can't confirm that yet. But early access this year is happening. So you'll know more than and will not be waiting till 2015. Microsoft said directx12 is coming to the xb1 so have devs making games. Are you saying its a lie? PC is where you test stuff out and experiment with it. MS have been on a deperate PR offensive touting everything they can find at the back of their little dark broom cupboard, most of it is just BS that fails in real world scenarios, you say Sony is deceiving it's fans, 7.5 million PS4 fans think otherwise. I knew it, when it was first announced The ICE Team was working on PS4 performance, I said it was gonna be mainly surrounding GPGPU. I hope it also revolves around making Partially Resident Textures easy to implement.
In other words There will be no such things as consoles parity. The PS4 will always be aheasier oh the X1.
