Microsoft and Crackdown 2 Developer Teasing Game Reveal

Microsoft and Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games are teasing a game reveal later today.

Vice president of Microsoft Studios Phil Spencer revealed on Twitter that a new announcement was on the way, with his sentiments being echoed by Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb.

Gazondaily4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

Crackdown 3 confirmed I guess.

Lets hope its like the first game and not the second!

Crackdown with next-gen power will be insane. Larger scale, more 'splosions, more chaos...should be good :)

Snookies124173d ago

I honestly wanted to like Crackdown, but never could get into it. Hopefully this one will really pull me in, if it is indeed Crackdown 3 they're teasing.

jimbobwahey4173d ago

It's the same developer as Crackdown 2, so I wouldn't bother getting excited considering the high probability that the game will be awful if they're making it.

Volkama4173d ago

But Crackdown 2 was rushed, it was built from start to finish in far too short a time. It was a respectable effort even if the end product fell short.

Ruffian may be able to build a fine game in the proper conditions.

Gazondaily4173d ago

@jimbo

I wouldn't adopt such a dismissive attitude to be honest. By that logic, the new Killer Instinct should have been terrible because Double Helix made it.

I'm cautiously optimistic but the concept of a next-gen Crackdown is quite exciting.

jimbobwahey4173d ago

@Septic

Exactly, and the new KI was terrible just like expected when looking at all the bad games the developer had previously made.

If you disagree then it's a difference of opinion of course, but I've yet to see my skepticism fail me when it comes to things like this, and my aversion to being whipped-up amongst the typical PR hype has thankfully allowed me to avoid some really bad games.

Gazondaily4173d ago

@jimbo

"Exactly, and the new KI was terrible just like expected when looking at all the bad games the developer had previously made."

Well then, your opinion matters holds very little weight it seems. It looks like you cannot discern a good game from a bad one, in my opinion of course.

Snookies124172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

@jimbobwahey - The new Killer Instinct is definitely not a terrible game... It's a little lacking in content right now, but it's far from being bad. I had a good bit of fun playing it, despite not liking the way it looked in previews and whatnot.

UltimateMaster4172d ago

Was there a demand for this game?

Crackdown was good fun when it came out. Even if it was sold off the back of a Halo beta.

It's since been surpassed by the Infamous series imo, and possibly Saints 4 as well. Second Son looks like it'll fit the bill nicely but it's a hell of a fun sub-genre so I hope Crackdown 3 smashes it out of the park as well :)

iiorestesii4172d ago

Crackdown has never been on par with Saints row. What world are you living in? What suggests that to you? Surely not sales figures or prestigious awards like Saints row has.

Volkama4172d ago

iiorestesii I'm not sure which game you are in favour of. I like Crackdown and Saints Row :|

The reason I mentioned Saints IV surpassing crackdown is simply because IV was the first foray into the super-powered sub-genre for that series.

CBaoth4173d ago

"Lets hope its like the first game and not the second!"

Let's hope MS gives Ruffian more than 9 months to make it this time. I picked up 2 on the cheap; it would've been better suited as an expansion rather than a sequel due to the time constraints. Still, C1 was a fantastic co-op experience and made achievement collecting fun for millions.

christocolus4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

Oh my...ms is putting that 1billion dollars into good use. So many titles announced already and phil is hinting at more exclusive announcements for e3. I guess the games are too many for just one event like e3,so ms has to start annoincing some way earlier. Great job Phil and Phil,i guess Mattrick was the one holding the team back all this while.

Enjoyed crackdown greatly. Great game.jumping across skyscrapers at super speeds was so much fun.cant wait to see what this mystery title will be.

MONOLITHICIDE4173d ago

Just stop! Hahahaha.

On topic, loved the first crackdown. Never played the 2nd game. I wonder if its going to be an entirely new game.

christocolus4173d ago

@monolith

Stop what? did i say something wrong? I actually enjoyed crackdown though i felt the sequel wasnt as good as the first but other things are quite clear. The fact that Ms is investing $1bill in games(is very obvious),the fact that Phil Spencer has been going in the right direction since Mattrick left,the number of exclusive games announced and the fact that phil has stated there will be more announcements at e3. The xbox team has been doing everything right.

http://www.theguardian.com/...

"The games lineup we're going to have at launch is the strongest we've ever had. There are also more games in development than we've ever had"

Comments from Phil just before launch,he also makes mention of spreading the game announcements across various events.

@Christocolus:
Sony Fanboy humour, don't ask.

3-4-54172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

So Forza, Halo, Gears and Crackdown........

Yup..definitely NOT more of the same /s

* I own a 360...currently trying to beat AC4, so I'm not some Sony fanboy.

I've never been LESS excited by a gaming system in my entire life than I am with XB1.

* It has a great controller, all the money to back it you could wish for, and still more of the same.

* So many unique and creative games used to be released on Xbox & Xbox 360.

AngelicIceDiamond4172d ago

@345 What loads of games are you looking forward to on PS4 right now? Its obvious you weren't following X1's game announcements or their E3 game reveals last year. Its like people always seem to repeat the same games over and over.

Titanfall, Fable Legends, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break, Gears, Crackdown, Black Tusks, D4, Halo 5, Pnantom Dust (slight tease)

Lion Heads multiple projects, Rare multiple projects, Lift Londons projects

Its like people are seriously blind to see the games coming for the console and yet still repeat the same "Gears, Forza, Halo, Gears, Forza, Halo." Come on man this isn't 2011.

Imo what you should be worried about is some of the supposed push back titles that are on PS4.

http://www.gamepur.com/news...

http://www.nowgamer.com/new...

I'm not saying "choose one over the other" obviously not but there's more going on with X1 with game reveals. At the moment anyway. The facts are there.

E3 is the event for games and Sony once again won't disappoint. But expect MS to have better shows this time around aslo.

Microsoft "The best games are on Xbox One"

Believe!

melemelnyc4173d ago ShowReplies(5)
mcstorm4173d ago

@lifeisgamesok & melemelnyc it all depends on the games you like to what are the best games and just because a game is in 1080p dose not make it a good game. Example Mario Galaxy is one of the best games ive ever played yet its not in 1080p.

I do believe the Xbox one has a great line up of exclusives this year and im sure Sony will start to being there big guns over the next 18 months but its good to see MS giving us some Exclusives again as they got a bit lost the last 18 months. Never played Crackdown but it looks a fun game so ill look to give it a go and this now explains the green logo on the xbox one advert that flashed up when it was on at half time of the Chelsea game yesterday.

NeoTribe4173d ago

Thats wierd because sony keeps winning goty.

ic3fir34173d ago

My God, if announce crackdown 3, imagine, Quantum break, Fable Legends, Project Spark, Below, D4, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, possible Forza Horizon 2, Crackdown 3,
  was announced at E3 a gears of war, then MS wins in 2014 and 2015 games

iiorestesii4172d ago (Edited 4172d ago )

Dear xbox, thank you for being there for me in these trying times that are my life. Please watch over my family and give them strength and hope. Thank you,xbox1, for your abundance of games you provide us. And thank you for sending your apostle, phil Spencer, and the wondrous news he gave suggested we will graciously be recieving before or around e3.;)

Ryse, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Powerstar Golf, Crimson Dragon, LocoCycle, Max:The Curse of Brotherhood, Project Spark, the black tusk game...

Edit: Forgot D4

LexHazard794173d ago

I guess they dont count because there not 1080p and 60fps. I cant wait to get my hands on all the games you just mentioned. And whatever else Xbox has coming!

quaneylfc4173d ago

I don't like those free to play indie games so my ps4 list is shorter than most. My xbox gets played more than my ps4 because of this. tbh sony need to start announcing some more big budget games.

mhunterjr4173d ago

They've been announcing new IPs since the reveal... aren't they entitled to sequels as well? No one is complaining that they're too many uncharted, kill zone, infamous, gran tourismo, etc, but MS needs more New IPs?

cyhm31124173d ago

sorry, but those Sony sequels are better games.

LexHazard794173d ago

@cyhm3112,
Thats an argument for another day, but still PS no different from Xbox when it comes to sequels!

iiorestesii4172d ago

Because people are weary that MS will be all to willing to just offer a repeat of last Gen. That's why their smug attitude lost them e3 last year. No one appreciates the grid locked video game industry of the last 6 years except MS and maybe Infinity Ward and EA. MS lost its rights to take the industry wheel, and it's official now. They doomed themselves about 4 years ago when they got cozy, stopped innovating, and just started paying people;)

Spurg4173d ago

If they are announcing Crackdown 3 now I wonder what big game they'll have reserve for E3 2014.

JeffGUNZ4173d ago

Halo 5 will be shown off ALOT. I really think they might bring a new gears or EPIC games IP to the table. Black Tusks game perhaps being shown fully?

As a kid i had some heart attacks playing this game. The soundtrack right on point with those close calls. I love this game.

shadowhaxor3h ago

Agreed. I still love it and play it often. Still sucks that Disney was like, nah... this game didn't do well, when it did well against other racers and reviewed well.

MaximusPrime_3h ago

Split/Second was one of the game I enjoyed playing. In fact it's still the most popular video on my YouTube channel. It's a gameplay of Split/Second posted 15 years ago. This past month 25 people viewed it. Split/Second is a favourite amongst racing gamers worldwide.

That controller looks like a cheap knockoff... it should have been a proper DS5 design.

...the VR aspect in 7 IS the redeeming quality.

Abriael12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

what a dumb take.

Ace Combat 7 is one of the best games of the past generation. It doesn't need VR gimmicks to "redeem" it.

TheColbertinator4h ago

I have enjoyed nearly every single Ace Combat to death (except that helicopter shooting one) and have never needed VR once to enjoy it greatly

Can we get a new Ace Combat, with full vr and not just three or four levels, for PS5 and PSVR2
Also if we could get a remake of my all time favorite, Ace Combat5: The Unsung War, again with full vr for every mission with DualSense and flight stick haptics.
