If you have a Playstation Vita then chances are that, like us here at 8Bitbot, you love the device. It delivers on almost every aspect a gamer on the go could hope for yet sales are poor and it is receiving a beating against Nintendo’s 3DS that is worse than the PSP vs DS battle of last generation. However in that generation the DS had exceptional sales and the PSP had great sales, they co-existed. This does not seem to be the case for the current generation, with the 3DS doing well it’s possible that the Vita could die if things don’t turn around.
A new patent recently published by Sony wants to gather biometric data of gamers to track whether one is being harassed using AI tools.
I hope this is one of those patents that never comes to fruition.
I already dislike the fact you can pay a significant amount for a online service buy associated games and content on said service and get banned from that service over potentially a misunderstanding the bans are already handed out for flimsy reasons
I'd rather see money invested in a ban that simply removes the offensive players ability to communicate with unknown players allow them to continue party chats with friends but not with Joe blow on cod.
Take my social security and bank account numbers too! Here’s a picture of my wife and our address.
At this rate I feel Sony will eventually sell a room to play games in it where they can monitor your every breath
I want them to censor erotic content by measuring my groin temperature so i dont get too distracted while playing black ops 2.
Terrible idea. Not only do I not consent to providing my biometric data, the potential for mishandling biometric data is almost a certainty. Positive stress and negative stress can produce similar changes in biometrics. Interpreting the precise emotion a person is feeling is not only invasive but could be easily misconstrued. I hope this never comes to fruition.
Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.
This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.
cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me
Hanzala from eXputer: "The cruel hammer of Nintendo has fallen. Farewell, 3DS and Wii U, you surely brightened my life and many others; you won't be forgotten."
Nothing.
It's problems are related to the changing market.
It doesn't have a mass-market system-seller, that's what is wrong. It has a wide variety of niche titles that make the system as a whole worth owning, but there isn't a single game on Vita that I can point to and say "see? That game will make it fly off the shelves"
Then again, my favorite games on PSP were niche titles so I guess I don't really mind.
Vita needs a Monster Hunter, obviously, and a Gran Turismo wouldn't hurt, either, seeing how GT on PSP was the highest-selling non-Monster Hunter game iirc.
Not enough games. Except for that, love it.
The only problem I can see with the Vita is their main selling point (when the thing first launched) was look at how much more powerful our handheld is vs the other guys' handheld. They didn't really stop to think that without really compelling software, nobody is going to want to spend $250+ on something that they may use "occasionally" or sometime down the road because there might be a good game coming.
I think the Vita has definitely started to increase in appeal, party due to the PS4's launch and the great companion that the Vita can become to the console. The Remote Play feature I think has won many people over just like the Off Screen feature is something that most Wii U owners love. The lowering of the price also helped as $200 is much more fathomable when you are talking about a handheld (the 3DS XL sells for $200 as well).
Unfortunately, most developers are still going to go where the userbase is, and so that kind of leaves the Vita in a strange place. It kind of reminds me of the Wii U partly. Developers know that the console is capable, but the install base isn't large enough for them to want to port their games over because they don't feel like they will recoup enough back. Strange sort of parallel I guess, but somewhat accurate.
Regardless, the Vita will be fine, it will still continue to sell. There will be some great games that will release on the handheld (just like there already has been). I never really considered purchasing a Vita in the past, however now owning a PS4 and loving the Off Screen feature of the Wii U, I am highly considering getting one so I can enjoy the Remote Play feature with my PS4. Not to mention there are a few games that interest me, so I am sure I would give a few of those a go as well.
The Vita hardware isn't the problem. It's how negligent Sony's been to it, both from a software support standpoint and a marketing standpoint.
