Star Citizen Could Come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One Out of the Question

Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts has always been pretty clear on the PC-centric nature of his upcoming space simulator Star Citizen, but the reveal of the PS4 as what is basically a PC in console disguise seems to have changed his mind.

It's like EVERY GAME is coming to PS4. I couldn't even keep up with all the indie stuff they showed at E3 and Gamescom. I had to go back and note. A gaming renaissance is indeed coming, Cerny.

ATi_Elite3900d ago

StarCitizen on PS4 will NOT happen.

Sure the PS4 is easy to port PC games to BUT once SC takes off too many things will take place that will render SC a PC Exclusive.

one of those will be that SC will be gamer driven like Eve Online so with great communication between PC Gamer and Dev SOny dudes would be left out in the cold.

another thing will be way too many controls and the PS4 version would be stripped down UNLESS Sony says OK to KB/m which it will not for a while as it pushes it Dualshock 4

third......Dust 514 didn't do so well did it? No one is playing it and SC is way more tactical and complicated than Dust 514.

So bragging about getting PC games and actually buying and PLAYING them is 2 different things.

ThatCanadianGuy5143900d ago

There there fella, let it out all.

:)

morganfell3900d ago

"Roberts said that a PS4 version of the game is definitely possible, after the PC version will be complete and stable, as the PC version itself remains the primary focus. Porting to PS4 would be pretty easy as CryEngine already works on the console and there would be no need to compromise anything important. After all, the more players the better."

Chris Roberts > disgruntled PC gamer.

T23900d ago

Wing commander on ps2 played fine thanks ... Joystick is preferred and doesnt have 20 different buttons does it

Enemy3900d ago

Star Citizen on PS4 will look like max settings on PC, according to Chris Roberts. Hang in there, ATi.

starchild3900d ago

IF it does come to PS4, enjoy your watered down version, guys. I'll be enjoying Star Citizen at the best quality on the platform where it works best.

ATi_Elite3899d ago

StarCitizen on PS4 = NOPE!

Chris Roberts is just being NICE so his NEXT game makes it to the PS4.

PLUS you PS4 people DO NOTY even know what StarCitizen is about. Your just bandwagon jumping anything that says SOny or PS4.

Dust 514 to SOny woo hoo YEH PS3 does it again OMG Sony is so AWESOME YEH

goes to Dust 514 server, CRICKETS, cause no one is playing ti!

Ashlen3899d ago

I'm sure you know more then the lead developer about what his project is or is not and can or can not do.

Nitrowolf23899d ago

"PLUS you PS4 people DO NOTY even know what StarCitizen is about."

Because we are buying a PS4 it means we don't know a dam think about the game? Please, I've been paying attention to this game and even helped fun it. I'm suppose to take ur word over the word of a developer though? Claiming that we don't know anything about it,

Are you on the dev team or something? if not STFU, I am sick of hearing PC gamers going on a rage fitsayign that these games will never hit the PS4. I remember writing an article about Planet Side 2 coming to PS4 and the commenbts saying it would never happen, to long to port, way to complex ect ect.

Which PC exclusive will come to the PS4 next? I can't wait to play FFXIV on that thing.

NYC_Gamer3900d ago

"The conditions for a port are the ability to patch the game timely and cross platform gameplay with the PC version, as Roberts wants all his players to share the same universe"

MS will miss out on many titles long as they don't allow shared servers/universe

Abriael3900d ago

Unless they do another 180 of course, but we're already at 720. Xbox 900 might be excessive lol.

FamilyGuy3900d ago

Yup, this reason alone is why Xbox isn't getting FF14 and many other games that are only coming to the PS4, PC and in FF14s and a few others case the PS3 as well.

cyguration3900d ago

The bigger question is: Will the game even be able to run on the next-gen systems at a reasonable rate? This isn't just some other indie title we're talking about here, this game makes EVE Online look like child's play and RSI is constantly talking about pushing the limits so that only the highest of high in the upper echelons of the PC Master Race will be able to run the game maxed out.

I tend to doubt there will be much of an audience for a low-detailed version of the game on home consoles.

Rhaigun3900d ago

Well, I hope they can get it running nicely. I'd love to play this game, and a good PC is out of my budget.

3900d ago
jonboi243900d ago

It is running on the CryEngine so there is a possibility.

ZodTheRipper3900d ago

This game somehow looks like a giant scam to me. Can you please explain me why people are pumping any more money into it? Were 15 million dollar really necessary?!

Abriael3900d ago

Please tell me you're trolling.

People are pumping money into it because it's an uinque concept that was popular a long time ago but today you can't find elsewhere, because the developer heading the project is a legent that made many young years for many of us happier with his games, and because it looks absolutely fantastic.

So yeah, just tell me you're trolling or you just don't know what you're talking about.

cyguration3900d ago

The goal is actually to get the game to $25 million.

RSI is trying to show the industry what an AAA game would be like if the entire budget went entirely into building the biggest, baddest, most graphically demanding game ever on the same kind of budget big publishers use for console games.

ZodTheRipper3900d ago (Edited 3900d ago )

I really don't know what I'm talking about, that's why I asked =)
I just googled this game, saw the Kickstarter stuff und after watching a gameplay video I couldn't understand why people are SO excited for it that they are pumping so much money into it. I understand that he's done some great games and that it's more or less a experiment but the video I saw didn't wow me enough to put any more money into it. 15.000.000 $ already are a sh*tload of cash and I can't imagine them needing even more for this project ...you are free to convince me with a mind-changing video, though :D

It's looks like an amazing game in a genre that barely is made anymore.

Being 35, I've gamed from Atari 2600 and Apple II to today. Along the way many style of games and genres have come and gone. People forget there was a time that Super Mario Bros. and these type of sidescrolling platformers were state of the art. That top notch graphics and Super Mario Bros was meant to be said in the same sentence.

Well Chris Roberts, as a young man during the NES/SNES era was busy making top notch space games on the various computer platforms. Great games for the times and seriously held back by that era of computing technology.

As time went on these have been few and far between because the developers and their wall street lackeys who are complete idiots deemed these sort of space genre games as a loser genre.

Of course they were wrong, and 15 million dollars of backing for a game still over a year away from launch proves it.

This is an epic project and it's blowing all the memes of morons out of the water. That people don't want these games. That you can't make it graphically stunning because you have to cater to consoles. Or even that you need a 50 million dollar ad campaign (cough CoD) in order to sell a AAA game.

Seems to me Star Citizen got better free advertising then Activision spends 50 million or so for every iteration of a very similar game... and I like CoD. But all the advertising is a waste of money.

Chris Roberts is the guy you want making such a game, and it's really amazing he's now in this position.

Think of if Walt Disney was alive and able to make Pixar cartoons. Imagine what he'd come up with.

That's basically what Chris Roberts is in a position to do, a genre giant from 15-25 years ago who now has access to today's next gen+ type power and the freedom to do it without the Wall Street morons messing everything up like normal. What is possible is amazing, and whatever platform can get access to it, like PS4, is going to have a major hit on its hands.

ZodTheRipper3900d ago

Hmm I guess you are right. I'll be following this project from now on to see where it's going but I'm still not completely convinced that it'll live up the expectations that come automatically after such a huge amount of cash was pumped into it. Thanks for the explanations though :)
