The Bureau is 'an evolution,' not reboot of XCOM

After years of silence, the XCOM FPS has resurfaced as a tactical cover-based third-person shooter known as The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Yet, in spite of a new perspective and a new title, 2K Games insists that their re-revealed game is not a reboot. Instead, it's simply an "evolution" of the long-in-development game.

"The game has not restarted over and over again," 2K Marin VP Alyssa Finley told Shacknews in an interview. "If you look back at the game we showed in 2010, you'll see some of the same enemies, you can see some of the same teammates. This really is an evolution."

Seconded. It sounds awesome and other superlatives.

But it use to be.

Then gamers complained, devs surprisingly gave them what they wanted, and now emotions have cooled down enough so that gamers can look at this FPS for any merits it might have. Now that its an offshoot of the series rather than a replacement, and a sequel to the other turn based game is all but announced.

Blizzard, 2K Games And More Formally Return To PAX East

PAX EAST has officially confirmed that Blizzard and 2K Games are amongst the bigger names attending the show. This would be two of the bigger names to return to live U.S. shows since the Covid Pandemic.

Good to hear. Past couple of years the show floor is getting smaller & smaller, with more space everywhere. Food truck trucks made their way on to the expo hall floor last year. Haven't seen that since 2012.

We stopped going to PAX West and let local team cover it. We could not justify airfare, rental car, food, hotel, etc for indies.

In Praise of Mafia III’s Voice Acting

Shaz from Pixel Swish: "The Mafia games have always excelled in storytelling and voice acting. Though Mafia 3 faltered in some gameplay aspects, its story and, particularly, voice acting are tremendous."

Mafia III had a great narrative and some truly incredible performances. The gameplay loop had its issues but the story, acting, world and atmosphere don't get nearly enough credit.

I loved the story elements butbfirnme the gameplay loop went behind issues it was utterly dull and it's structure was it's downfall.

Go to area of map disrupt business through open world shenanigans that feel extremely rinse and repeat many times until cutscenes and boss fight then repeat again

They had so much potential especially in the CIA angle but it was squandered.

I wish they could do it over and focus on the narrative like a more traditional GTA game

First few hours: "This game is incredible!"

Hour 10: "Wait, that's it? I'm going to be doing the same thing over and over for the rest of the game??"

2K Games Can Now Launch on Steam and Epic Without the 2K Launcher

As of November 25, the 2K launcher is no longer required in any 2K published games on either Steam of Epic Games Store.

Much like Bethesda’s & Paradox’s, I never understood even the notion that these launchers should be required. Even from their own business perspective I could never even imagine someone purchasing a game through them and not being recognised as a hinderance more than anything else.
