Diablo III player nets over $10K at real-money Auction House

As expected, the real-money Auction House in Diablo III has been a windfall for some players, including Reddit user WishboneTheDog, who posted screen grabs of his transaction history and Paypal to prove his moneymaking prowess.

Oh wow, I just can't believe someone can spend over 200 bucks on a 50 dollar game... And that's for just 1 item! CRAZY!

karlowma4281d ago

Even though I hate the concept, I at least understand "pay to win" in a multiplayer environment. This just boggles my mind.

Remember Blizzard gets a cut of every RMAH sale. These are the people who will ruin gaming.

How will they ruin gaming?

All they did was make a safer way of item transferring. Before it was done on sites like eBay or direct deposits and half the bastards would even give you what you bought. Atleast this way it's safe.

karlowma4281d ago

Let's see...

Blizzard controls itemization.

Blizzard controls drop rates.

Blizzard controls the Auction House.

Blizzard receives direct monetary compensation from sales made on the Auction House.

So far we've established that Blizzard is printing money. With me so far?

Next, consider the fact that drop rates of actual usable items is so abysmal that, in order to progress in Inferno, a player is all but forced to purchase items off the Auction House. Add to that the fact that the best items are now only being sold on the real-money Auction House, and you have the ultimate pay-to-win scenario.

And if they ever do get around to adding PvP, you will have a direct relationship between how much you spend and how well you perform.

Are you starting to see how this system is flawed?

Check out diablo3.com any day of the week and glance at the top forum topics to see just how much everyone loves this game.

^I was going to say something, but you explained it perfectly there.

The auction house is making the game extremely boring. It's sad too...I loved the Diablo series. Now I can just overpower my character through the auction house and just hope I get some kind of drop from the enemies I mow through.

I haven't even spent any real money, just in game gold. Sad...

Loki864281d ago

I have made almost $2000 on the RMAH, just learning the Gold value and buying low selling high and building up. Then using that Gold to buy an underpriced godly item and reselling for over $200. Rinse. Repeat.

I also, only play about 6-8 hours a week.

NeoTribe4281d ago

They need to remove the real money auction house and keep the gold one. That's my opinion atleast. To many losers droppin hundreds of bucks to be godly. Its only gonna get worst when pvp comes. Competition will drive these nerds to empty there bank accounts.

I make €188 every Tuesday for standing in line for 5 minutes.

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein86d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

Diablo III - Still a Huge Draw in the Face of Diablo IV

Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.

Palitera395d ago

Are you comparing a continuously improved 10+ years old masterpiece with the... beta of an unreleased game?

kevco33394d ago

Heh, yeah. There's no comparison in here! Its a commentary on how III is still very playable over a decade later.
