Could Indie Games Save the PS Vita?

Quote:
"The Playstation Vita is without a shadow of a doubt the best handheld console that has ever existed. Its build quality, screen, controls and specs are completely unparalleled. It has the ability to bring current-gen console-quality gaming to the mobile platform without even straining itself. So why does a console like this require saving?"

It doesn't need "saving". It just needs a little TLC. I think PSVTV will boost sales tremendously. I'm certainly looking forward to it and remote play. Playing PS4 games anywhere? Friggin fantastic. They just need to market it's capabilities more, methinks. I think we'll see a big, big boost in sales soon. Don't really care about that though; all I know is, I want one.

I want a VITA TV too! Can not wait!! :D

Also, I'm not sure what the hell people who play games are niggling about now. But I know people in the indie gaming community are hyped up about VITA.

Sony pays indies to put their games on a handheld. If you where a indie developer who grew up playing games on a gameboy and now you can put your games on a handheld and Sony is giving you money to do that....that's freaking awesome!

I'm not sure why some people don't get Sony's deal with indies. ~shrugs~ Haters gunna hate!

GreenRanger3895d ago

Having all indie games on the PS3, PS4, and the Vita isn't doing it any favors.

Why buy a game for the Vita if it can be found elsewhere?

That's probably the Vita's biggest problem.

PSNintyGamer3895d ago

"But, But it's portable! It's also not available on the 3ds! So that increases it's value!" That's most likely one of the answers you will get.

What it needs is for articles to stop promoting the idea the Vita has no games. All that's holding it back now is the media and those rabid fans that love to latch onto fashionable memes, or the weaker gamers who get caught up in the narrative because they fear being ostracised and mocked.

Anyone who buys a Vita now couldn't possibly catch up with the huge library of games available, regardless of what the media want people to think.

I find it really odd that these types of articles always appear just after new games are released or after news of a price cut, new design and another member of the Vita family is announced. These are written by design and not out of necessity.

Don't be fooled. Do the research and go to forums with dedicated Vita sections or dedicated Vita threads. Speak to the people that know: Vita owners. Here's a small list. All the games aren't there but it gives you an idea or two:

Already played through all the games I want to play and I'm just waiting for more. I'll also drop you a hint, I think myself and lots of other Vita owners don't care for indie titles either.

This makes absolutely no sense. The Vita needs AAA software and NOTHING LESS. You generally buy hardware to play software right idiot? Or are we going to buy a PS4 so we can buy MORE HARDWARE. Makes so much fucking sense doesn't it?

Why don't we do some math here:

So if we buy a Vita to play PS4 games on it it will cost us $630 just to own the two systems with an assumed %5 sales tax which is probably too conservative. Now let's add $60 for every game you are going to buy. So how much will it cost to get PS4 games on your Vita: just under $700. BUT WAIT, we could get new games for $40. What a miracle!

GribbleGrunger3895d ago

Sell your Vita fella, it's of no use to you.

^Well he has a point on the indie part, as much as I think some of them are great. Its not what I had in mind.

I was expecting boat loads of Japanese games on my Vita like I did with my PSP but Sony kinda screwed that when they went with a western centric strategy and kept supporting the PSP in Japan (until now even)

The best games on the Vita is being held in Japan without any localization. So I am hoping the new Sony 3rd party group can help get those games over to us.

God Eater 2
Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star Nova
Tales of Innocence R
Tales of Hearts R

Not counting Type-0, VCIII, Suikoden and slew of PSP games which is compatible with the Vita. The Vita needs these types of games in the west. So I hope the VTV can make some head way. So localization can happen.

SIdepocket3894d ago

So it's now the media's fault that my Vita has been sitting unused for almost a year? Well thanks Gribblegrunger, I was laboring under the misconception that the Vita had no games to play because there was nothing on it that interested me.

Thank heavens there are people like you telling us these things!

bothebo3894d ago

He's a moron who only looks at the brand and not the reality of the situation that AAA software is what gets people to pick up and play their system.

Sithlord-Gamble3894d ago

Indie games save the Vita ... f*#% No!

But Killzone just might!
That game is amazing!

RedSoakedSponge3893d ago

i hope so! since playing indie games on my vita really work well and is like the perfect fit :)

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga1d 6h ago (Edited 1d 6h ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1821d 5h ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie19h ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

RNTody1d 7h ago (Edited 1d 7h ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno1d 7h ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Sheppard7t31d 5h ago

How did Sony kill the series?

Inverno1d 5h ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

14h ago
fsfsxii15h ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno14h ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
