User Review : Wolfenstein: The New Order

Ups
  • Cool guns & old school mechanics
  • Interesting story with multiple paths encourages the player to play the game at least twice
  • Alternate history timeline with memorable set pieces
Downs
  • No multiplayer
  • Sometimes the game shifts from serious to silly or the other way round

Surprisingly fun shooter!

I remember receiving Wolfenstein The New Order (limited edition ver) for Christmas a few years ago, from my then girlfriend (which I now am happily married to!) along with a couple of other games, but Wolfenstein stood out from the rest. Basically it's a run and gun FPS with bloody fun gameplay and a quite interesting story and characters.

For those who don't have any idea what Wolfenstein is about, it's an FPS set in a World War / Nazi Victory alternate universe, which include cool sci-fi guns and creatures which are created by the lovely Nazistic bunch. Anyway, I must say this is one of the best Wolfenstein games I have played, the story keeps you engaged throughout the fun and bloody single player experience. There are some choices that you are required to take that affect the game and story in different ways, which certainly adds replay value to the 12hour campaign. There are some interesting enemies that you'll blast with even more interesting guns though I won't spoil anything, I must say the narrative and characters you encounter make the game much more interesting than it was supposed to be.

The visuals are vibrant and generally good looking, audio is I think maybe the best aspect with great soundtrack and voice work. Gameplay wise, it's fun, bloody, messy, and for me it got never boring or repetitive. After 3 years, I can say that it's still one of the games that I can still remember having fun with and the only reason I don't play it nowadays is because of the amount of recent games that I'm trying hard not to miss playing, I now have little time to play, but I try to have a break once in a while, and currently am playing and need to finish I think more than ten games (OMG) they are sitting on the shelf, waiting for me, begging me to play the hell out of them! (including Horizon & Witcher 3) which obviously are 2 of the longest games out there at the moment.

Back to Wolfenstein The New Order, I think it's safe to say that I recommend this game even nowadays to gamers who like action FPS games in general and if you have not played it yet, you could grab a copy with a bargain price, since it's been over 3 years since it was released. Great shooter.

Scheiße! Nein.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the best in the series. After that:
New Order
New Colossus
Old Blood

I really wish they'd remake Return to Castle Wolfenstein from the ground up. Easily the best of them all.

Couldn’t agree more. Still love It as a shooter to this day.

Just something about that game. I really wish they would just do a remaster, don’t even need a remake just bring it up to todays out put, touch up a few things if any, and I am there to buy it day one.

Of course I would love a remake built from the ground up. As long as they treated it like Shadow of the Colossus, or close to those type of remake. Wouldn’t want it to get the RE treatment…. Just because the game is already paced so perfect and hits all the right beats that I wouldn’t touch that aspect.
