SAO moving 145,000 units is awesome, though I expected a bigger hardware boost. Anyways, about 24-25K this week is very good for Vita. I'm glad it's finally stable in Japan. It's taken a long time, though.

Patience is a virtue, and Sony has definitely been patient.

The problem facing the PlayStation 4 in Japan is a simple one: a lack of games that appeal to the territory's tastes. This crippling issue can actually be traced back to the PlayStation 3, which released at prohibitively expensive price point and was notoriously difficult to develop for. As mid-tier game development collapsed and Western giants like Activision Blizzard and Electronic Arts became increasingly powerful, Japanese studios sought out less fiercely contested markets in handheld and mobile titles.

At the time of PS3's launch, the anime-inspired aesthetic that had been hugely popular during the days of PlayStation and PlayStation 2 was quickly losing its appeal among Western gamers. The inherent difficulties in developing for the PlayStation 3 and adapting to HD standards combined with reduced global interest in Japanese aesthetics and design philosophies created the present scenario that promises to sink PlayStation 4's prospects in Japan.

I feel that the PS4 will hit around 6-9m in Japan same time span as PS3.
If it goes through 2014 with no huge Japanese exclusives then it could suffer til FFXV and KHIII.

i agree, but... you see... Ps4 will be the Major player in japan's home console market this gen, and have the lion share of this market.

X-one > it will be a flop in japan, they will barely surpass 1 million, whit lots of luck they will hit 2 millions...

WiiU > wiiU is floping in japan and in the world, they will hit something like 6-7 million life sales in japan, that is a fair and generous number considering sales of 2012-2014 and a life cycle of 7 years...

Ps4 > Ps4 get the remaning share of the Japanese market, that will be something like 17-25 million consoles in a life cycle (considering that last gen number is around 25 millions.)
Now, considering that 7-9 million are from Microsoft and nintendo, the remaning 10-16 millions are for Playstation. 10-16 million in sales! that is a big number, this make japan a very important market.

in the end Ps4 will have a very good market in japan, better than Ps3 market at the time. these 10-16 million sales are going to make a big diference, for sure. Sony will have sucess because even if the market is in decline, they became the "main player" that will take what remains of this market.

For Japan to embrace the PS4 it needs The Last Guardian, a dragon quest and / or monster hunter and a consistent flow of RPGs... I'm sure SONY are on this - by Christmas hopefully!

Once the PS4 gets many games that Japan likes, the Sales will go up. If PS3 made it then PS4 can.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.
