EA promises 'gamer first' used game policy for PS4 and Xbox One

XMNR: How the PS4 and Xbox One handles used games turned into a huge topic for E3 this week. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau weighed in by saying how the mega-publisher plans to handle the controversial subject for the next generation of console.

Yeah, EA has always been about the money and will continue to believe that until proven otherwise. Most likely all this will mean is that instead of DRM and online passes, they'll microtransaction us to death. I don't mind when the micro transactions seem like a natural part of the game but knowing EA, they'll design all their games now around them if they don't do so already.

But micro transactions, paying a premium price for console version and paying for online via PS+ is all starting to sound like a rather expensive package.

Ea is letting Microsoft do all the dirty work next gen while trying to turn around its image. They don't put gamers first, there is a reason why it's the most hated company in America. Sim city says hi.

I refuse to buy any games with such ridiculous restrictions for the foreseeable future, i'm going to stick to first party ps4 games which shouldn't impose such atrocious capitalist ideologies.

This is what I don't understand is the majority's problem with what Microsoft said about there used games. It's exactly the same policy as Sony just worded differently. And yet a lot of people are basing there purchase on it. Just to clarify I'm getting both. O and I hate EA lol

Dear EA. STFU. You don't matter any more. Sell off your IP and go away. No statement coming from that cesspool has any merit. They are liars and thieves.

The only reason they are promising this is because of the reaction that Sony is getting by sticking with the old ways. I don't think anyone knew how much gamers would resist the change that was coming.

The thing is we are moving away from disc based games naturally. We don't need Microsoft to force the issue. Maybe if they only took away used games it would have been accepted. But no used games, always having to check-in to make sure you aren't a thief, $500 price tag, mandatory Kinect, and the always listening was just too much.

Microsoft didn't try to change the game a little, they tried to change everything at once. The writing is on the wall that we are moving towards that future that Microsoft tried to force on us, but let it happen naturally.

Ubisoft made a better argument for Always Online, with games like The Division and The Crew, than Microsoft did. Than you have Microsoft's terribly arrogant attitude on top of everything and yeah you get the current outcome.

The simple statement of "Our Policy" and "We'll release it in a few weeks" tells me you don't have the gamer in mind.
