What 'Star Wars' with Electronic Arts means and what about the Wii U?

XMNR: Disney announced an exclusive deal with Electronic Arts on Monday to bring games based on the Star Wars movies to the PS4, next Xbox and PC. The news definitely has ramifications for the console market including the likelihood that Nintendo's Wii U is left on the outside looking in yet again.

"unprecedented partnership"

Thats all that needs to be said. The WiiU support from EA has actually been worse then with the Gamecube so far, so its unprecedented in that regard.

Who knows if it was a fallout between EA and Nintendo over certain issues thats. Or if EA just doesnt want to waste resources on a port with gamepad features, you cant say EA games have been selling very well on the WiiU.

LOL_WUT4024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

Well, if BF4 is not coming to the Wii U then it wouldn't surprise me if this doesn't either.

Besides I'm pretty sure all them Wii U owners would rather play this on their PC... ;)

Whymii4023d ago (Edited 4023d ago )

I suggest you look up Schadenfreude. It explains why you post on every remotely negative article on the wii u. I suppose you think you're clever, but really you're just a troll with nothing better to do. You have my pity.

Me, I'm off playing Bioshock Infinite on the PC, Gears of War on the 360, Journey on the PS3 and Lego City on the Wii u. No system's perfect, but they all manage to entertain me enough that I don't need to pick on each one's short comings.

quantae064024d ago

EA left out the Infinity Engine on Madden, and Madden has serious online issues on Wii U. Mass Effect Trilogy was announced on 360/PS3 when Wii U got Mass Effect 3. It's no wonder the EA games aren't selling on Wii U. Poor support from EA! The EA Origin deal fallout with Nintendo was no joke to EA. Even if the install base was larger for Wii U right now, a lot of Wii U owners wouldn't support EA when they put out half butt ports, or announce trilogy's on other consoles after only one sequal of the series gets released on the Wii U.

good grief, this system just can't catch a break.

Frostbite 2 = Need for Speed: Most Wanted U. An EA game on the WiiU.

So yes it will likely come to WiiU. Maybe not in full fleshed Frostbite 3, but Frostbite 2 on WiiU doesn't look bad at all considering its using all PC assets and textures.

Star Wars wouldn't skip WiiU.

Why aren't any Wii U games (or at least not many) using the Wii-mote? Imagine Star Wars with the Wii-mote (and wii-motion-plus for added accuracy) and using it as a light sabre (and nunchuck for navigation).

Also, the Wii game pad could still be used too for menu's, and perhaps controlling ships/millenium falcon.

Even if EA doesn't wanna invest time making features exclusive to the Wii-mote and touch screen of the game pad, they can consolidate that by also allowing these same features on similar tech (PS Move, Cell Phones (both ps4 and 720 will be using cell-phones as second screens), etc.

Seriously, something like that should have been thought up by now, especially the idea of using Wii-mote/Ps move as a precise light sabre, and shooter in a FULL FLEDGED star wars game.

brewin4024d ago (Edited 4024d ago )

EA will definitely support the U once it gains a stronger intsall base. They simply dont want to waste resources in the shift to next gen. Im willing to bet they dont release versions of this years sports games on the PS4 or next Xbox either for this year. New console owners are tired of getting gimped versions the first time out. Maybe EA will wise up and hold off the relese til next years version to include specific features and actually utilize the next gen power of the U, PS4 and Xbox 720.

Sharius4024d ago

or worst, they will put cross-play version of their game in both PS and xbox and FORGET to spare one for WiiU

All Hopes I Had For A Prey Sequel Have Been Crushed — Well Done, Microsoft

The magnificent Prey was once again abandoned as Microsoft disregarded Arkane Austin's achievements and crucified it just for Redfall.

RaidenBlack21h ago

well, not entirely ... the main Arkane studio i.e Arkane Lyon's still there ...
Its only that, the sequel will take more time now ... after Blade & Dishonored 3

MrBaskerville1h ago

But who knows, Dishonored 3 could have been Austins next project, so might be cancelled.

-Foxtrot20h ago(Edited 20h ago)

Not even this Prey

Still longing for a sequel to the original Prey with Tommy

The studio didn't even want to call this Prey, it was just Bethesda being dicks to them for some reason.

RaidenBlack15h ago

MS closed Roundhouse Studios (ex-Human Head Studios) as well

Yui_Suzumiya4h ago

Yeah, that's who was going to do the original sequel.

isarai11h ago

Came here to say this, my hooes for a Prey sequel died when this "Prey" came out

Profchaos2h ago

Prey 2017 still hurts to play because what could have been looked so incredible

Profchaos2h ago

Same Bethesda basically screwed over the original developer team human head back around 2011 so it was really never going to come despite a honestly amazing trailer. I liked prey 2017 but it always held a stink of disappointment due to what we never got

LostPotato19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Keep dreaming then as Prey and Dishonored 2 did not sell well enough to get sequels.

Hence we got Deathloop and Redfall instead.

RaidenBlack14h ago

lol, Deathloop came from Prey: Mooncrash idea

Unknown_Gamer57943h ago

To everyone who cheered MS’s acquisitions, we told you so…

Inverno2h ago

Those people will just argue that Arkane Austin and Tango would've been shut down either way.

MrBaskerville1h ago

Zenimax allready put them in a tight spot by demanding them to do a multiplayer title. So it's not unlikely, considering how bad the game performed. They didn't stand a chance. MS had the money to save them and to correct Zenimax' mistakes.

Helldivers 2 Star Wars Mod Looks Pretty Insane

Star Wars is coming to Helldivers 2, unofficially that is, as a new mod revamps in-game models and sends players to a galaxy far, far, away.

thejigisup5h ago

To you. What makes them interesting?

repsahj4h ago

This is the reason they cancel the psn link.

Would It Have Even Mattered If Redfall Were Good?

Even if Redfall were a good game, the closure of Hi-Fi Rush proves even that doesn't matter in the industry.

Yeah it would have mattered especially since their huge game that year wasn't all that it was cracked up to be remember redfail was almost heavily promoted and hyped not to the level of starfield but still more promoted than the average game.

There was still a decent marketing campaign behind the game I'm sure millions were spent advertising it on websites and I saw a few billboards and bus stop signs in real life

jwillj2k47h ago

No it wouldn’t matter it wouldn’t bring in enough profit to offset their 100 billion dollar acquisition. It would maybe delay the inevitable by some months.

CrimsonWing697h ago

I would f*cking think so. Good games are what draws people to your platform. It’s why I adored the 360 era with Gears of War being one of the highlights for me. You make sh*t games and it just makes your platform that much worse and you start gobbling up studios I like and then killing them off it also makes me hate your platform as well… just sayin’

franwex7h ago

Unless the game would’ve been War Zone, or Fortnite level. No. Maybe even Hell divers 2 I doubt would’ve been enough.

Exvalos6h ago

No it would not have, the ABK deal was great for Microsoft but horrible for Xbox. Over 100 billion dollars in acquisitions. That money has to be made back. That ABK deal essentially destroyed Xbox as we know it.
