I am so tired of these gimmicky Pokemon titles for Nintendo consoles. They could do so much more with the RPG but refuse to move away from handheld. Maddening!

lilbroRx4037d ago

Gimmicky? You do know what that word means and how its intended to be used right?

Rearden4037d ago

Gimmicky? Care to name an example?

Munnkyman4036d ago

I think by gimmcky he means you buy toys and those become your character is the game.
I agree with him on the rpg pokemon game for a console. Why don't they just make it, it would be huge.

a_bro4036d ago (Edited 4036d ago )

What they need to create is a Pokemon game that can bring in your Pokemon from the handheld games like Pokemon stadium. You should also be able to level up your Pokemon from there and bring them back to your Pokemon game on the handheld.

Dj7FairyTail4036d ago

uh because Pokemon is Personal not a Family Game or Console Type Game.

Pocket Monsters in Japan meaning it more suited for Handheld. Besides none of the console Pokemon games sold over 2m.

People who play Pokemon, I mean full blown adults not just kids, are obsessed with this franchise and won't miss a single entry. That doesn't mean they jump on it as a new release, but they are knowledgable and feverishly devout. Nintendo knows this.

While Sony has an amazing cast of talented first party developers, Nintendo has these franchises that they treat like historical records, they will never change or deviate from the original by any extreme stretch of the imagination.

lilbroRx4037d ago (Edited 4037d ago )

Oh look, another comment dismissing Nintendo's success and praising Sony on a Nintendo centered article that has nothing to do with Sony. We certainly haven't seen that before. /s

Comparing Sony devs(people), to Nintendo franchises(game series) because they are the same thing... And "treat like historical records?" What does that even mean?

Because God of War, Ratchet and Clank, and Gran Turismo are entirely new franchises and don't use the same formula as older versions.

And a turn based RPG where you give monster orders to attack becoming a arena based combat game using windup keys to manual control single monsters is no deviation from the original.

KosmoCrisis4037d ago

I believe you've just explained the Nintendo effect, whereby Nintendo takes a game and adds a control mechanism in the real world to make the game feel different when in fact its the same damn game.

I digress, because you're right about those Sony franchises except for being completely wrong. God of War is a great example. You say they are all the same, but someone who has played them all would say oh no they aren't. Each was produced by a different person and the latest abismal release is a perfect example of how a change isn't always the best, by adding a massive multiplayer component that now trumps its single player.

Ratchet 1-3 were similar on PS2. But Clank got his own adventure on PSP, and the newest online coop Ratchet is a third person real time tower defense game.

Gran Turismo, well, I don't play simulations. It takes 5 years to make those things and Sony puts Polyphony on a pedestal.

I'd like to see Nintendo branch out with their franchises. Why doesn't Pokemon appeal to me? Because they don't care about me. And I'm a fairly average gamer all around. Grew up on NES, SNES, and was chomping at the bit for N64. Have had nearly every handleheld. My Nintendo franchises haven't grown up with me.

And did you say that "using windup keys to manually control single monsters" is original? Is this a toy or a video game with immersive fantasy experiences? It can't be both.

exfatal4036d ago

@kosmocrisis

pokemon doesn't deviate then how can you explain a pokemon game, where you take pictures of pokemon instead of capturing them. or a game where you get turned into a pokemon and go on an rpg type adventure with your pokemon partner friend? or a game where you have a pet pikachu and you yell commands to make it do stupid little tricks. more examples? a pokemon pinball game 2 of them actually, and a pokemon racing game. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Dj7FairyTail4036d ago

yup we won't. I am waiting for Pokemon Y.

Right now I am just EV Training and Breeding my Pokemon.

Pokemon Elite Fans will understand what I am saying.

It'll be interesting to see how the sale of those figures is implemented here in the west, if it makes it over. It could be a great Skylanders competitor. Pokemon has more brand recognition and the figures are cheaper than Activision's figures.

maniacmayhem4036d ago

Seriously..WTH?

How hard would it be to have a Skylander style game with Pokemon figures for a classic RPG Pokemon style game found on the handhelds. To me that would be the way to go.

Maybe I'm not getting the whole concept here. But the collect 'em all should be extended to all merchandise. Now I know that is a pretty shitty thing to do but Kids would eat that up just like they are with Skylanders.
