How Aliens: Colonial Marines Fell Apart

Kotaku: Aliens: Colonial Marines is a bad game, by most accounts. Reviewers have almost all trashed it, fans don't seem to like it, and the final product looks nothing like the impressive demo that developer Gearbox showed last year.

So how did it happen? Although the full picture isn't quite clear yet, over the past few days we've heard that the six-year development process for Aliens: Colonial Marines was tumultuous and divisive, a product of multiple studios with conflicting visions. And it shows in the resulting game.

all hail globalization and the endless possibilities of outsourcing stuff.. and jup. that was irony.

I HAVE ONE WORD THAT EXPLAINS HOW ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES FELL APART INTO THIS CRAPY FINAL PRODUCT. "SEGA" THEY HAVE NOT HAD ANY GOOD GAMES SINCE THE FIRST SONIC.

^^ Caps lock...

On topic.

Sega has had plenty of good games over the years they only published Colonial marines they did not have a hand in it's development, Gearbox were responsible for the outcome of the final product, if they chose to outsource the story mode that's their mistake when it turned out crap.

It's an insult that the developer/publisher would release and market this, the TV advert actually makes it look very good... and to think they want to block the used market, that will just give them the green light to release more mediocre rubbish like this.

MAYBE THEY JUST NEED ANOTHER 6 YEARS TO FIX THIS CRAP.

I had many doubts this game was going to live up to the hopes people were placing on it, but I didn't think it would turn out this bad. I thought it might turn out mediocre, but instead it's a disaster.

I thought the same. Thought it was just going to be run of the mill. What was released is a bloody shambles.

I was looking forward to this game more than crysis 3 and this is just disapointing ....I really thought the aliens series could have been great games by 2013 but I guess i was wrong...hopefully they can land like a massive patch eventually to make it look like its supposed to

The Saboteur - criminally underrated and a fantastic mechanic of bringing colour back to Nazi-occupied Paris.

The article lists Bulletstorm, Sleeping Dogs, and Aliens: Colonial Marines.

Can't argue with any of those really, but I would add Resident Evil Operation Racoon City and Metal Gear Survive to that list. Both terrible games from good franchises.

Bulletstorm, I actually liked the gameplay but the atrocious writing and characters made me despise the game by the end of it.

I still play AvP on PS3 to this day. That game had fun multiplayer too.
