400 dollars/euros sounds like a great price though, so I'll certainly be interested, but like I said, it will depend on a number of things for me. Not just that attractive price.

I do have to say that the last 2-3 years Sony has made some very positive steps to winning me over, with PSN+ probably being their biggest achievement this gen. I'm am pretty confident that Sony is focussed on GAMES, which is what I'm looking for first and foremost with a GAMES console.

The sweet spot for a PS4 with the right features and specs is $499, which I see more realistic than $399. The times have changed since the PS3 launched at $599 and I think that more people will be willing to pay for the PS4 this time. Also, considering that Sony might me preparing a good launch line up, it's going to be an easier choice.

The only problem I see is that Sony fails at the marketing. They used to be great at it, and hopefully with the new agency they hired, they'll get it right this time.

With today's economy, $299-349 will be a safe price point. They couldn't even move Vita's @$249. Parents will see PS3 and 360's at $200-300 and buy those before newer systems. Hardcore gamers are a small percentage oompared to the masses. A $400 systems seems okay in your eyes, but too much for the average. A game system is not an iPhone, so don't expect it to be shelves as a MUST HAVE.

No, I'm from Costa Rica, a small country where pretty much all electronics are very expensive, not only game consoles. TV sets, dishwashers, freezers, game consoles, smartphones, tablets, washing machines, cars, etc etc etc, are all considerably more expensive in here than they are in the U.S. The average salary of the costa rican citizen is much lower than that of the U.S. citizen, making this difference even more pronnounced.

I still can't wrap my head around the concept that a $500 home console that lasts me 7-years, is too much, when a great PC might cost me the same price and need new RAM, additional storage, maybe another graphics card/etc., within a few...and that's not including the option of a specialized display if I'm not resorting to HDMI out through my existing setup, a specialized gaming mouse and keyboard, and any number of other factors that could easily amount to something like $700-$1000 for my first 3 years of solid PC gaming.

I spent $600 on a ps3 that will have lasted me 7 years

I will gladly spend another $600 on a ps4.

Yes as im expecting them to launch at this price point id say yes. For get my avatar but i spend more than $400 on Videocards for my PC so a PS4 for that would be a bargain. US$400 would be a steal for what they are rumored to be offering.

I felt like I overpaid for my $550 60gb ps3 but I've had it since almost the day it came out, no problems whatsoever, and I've really put it under strain too so I feel like I really got my money's worth!!! Most people will pay top dollar but the big problem is software. No matter how powerful and grand a console is you still need a good game to back your product.
personally I am tired of sequels and reboots.

Few people will get a PS3 at 499.99$, too close to that infamous 599.99$ pricepoint the PS3 was originally sitting at, but at 399.99$ it may work pretty well. But ideally the PS3 shouldn't cost more than 299.99-349.99$ at launch, then it would sell like crack-filled cupcakes.

I for one will wait until it's below the 300$ line to get one. It'll take several years but I can wait, I still have so many PS3 games to buy.

I don't plan on getting a ps4 until years from now when it's in the 200-250 range. Personally, I have no interest in these new consoles and will stick with my PC+ps3+vita setup until the ps4 develops a healthy library of exclusives. And the ps4 is the only new console I'd get; I have no interest in the Wii u, and since my 360 broke, Microsoft hardware is out of the question for me.

But that's just me. Who knows, I could change my mind once we start hearing about next-gen console exclusives. Right now all I know of is a new guerilla IP.

BUT, some factors can play a huge part, like if the PS4 is not backwards compatible or doesn't let me use my content from PS3, then I may not rush to get it day one, because I have a ton of current gen games that I haven't even touched yet. & with a newly launched console comes very few titles to play. & even if it launches with, say, 20 games; how many of those do you actually want to buy/play?
We all know that launch titles are pretty much extended tech demos with very little to no substance.

Also, I noticed alot of posts saying "phew, $400s' the most I'll pay, $400 is steep, etc.", but think about it like this; how many of you have a IPhone, or Galaxy, or tablet? Those items easily exceed $400. I understand that in todays' world, your phone is like your own personal pokèdex, supplying you wit portable web service, phone service, daily info, etc., but in value, I think its equivalent to having to spend $400 for a cutting edge gaming console.
