What are you supposed to do if you have an 8GB Wiiu and you try to download Darksiders 2, Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper or Assassins Creed III? Didn't I also hear that the OS takes up 5GB of space? So even if you just wanted the last two games, they wouldn't fit on the 32GB version! I'm holding off for a while. Hopefully Nintendo will release a Wiiu with more internal memory.

A friend is bringing his Wiiu round for me to look at on Friday so hopefully I'll have a better idea of the system then. I can't say I'm not disappointed though ... I skipped the Wii because of the waggle controller and passed on MOVE for the very same reason. I'm sure though, that once devs stop just porting games straight over there'll be plenty of reasons to get one. And of course, all those juicy Nintendo exclusives!

When I was on the eShop last it specifically provides a message stating that people with the basic model cannot download games of that size onto the flash memory and require external storage.

At the very least Nintendo got the message out there it seems.

Pretty sure the 8gb Wii U is marketed more towards casual gamers that won't be downloading games anyway.

Well even the 32GB is severely limiting without a purchase of a external harddrive. Unless Nintendo doesn't expect game installs and patches.

I feel like its the early 2000s all over again when my first PC purchase came with 8GB except its 2012.

In nintendo trying to give the Wii U the lowest price point possible, they've pushed the cost of storage space onto consumers wheres anything above 100GB should've been standard.

This is just another way of Nintendo for being cheap and the result of focusing resources on the tablet controller and even that thing comes with a cheap battery.

The whole console seems to be geared toward core nintendo fans and casuals either way >.>

@Sashimi

True, but rather than charge us more for a console with a hard drive that may or not be proprietary, we can easily hook up one of our own. I know that that sounds like a lot. But if you're like me and upgraded both your PS3 and 360 hard drives I think you might be more forgiving. When I upgraded to the 100gb, it cost me nearly $100, and that was at a time when 500gb were usually only about $80. The PS3 hdd can be replaced with any 2.5" drive, but the process was clunky, and I needed an additional external hdd formatted in fat 32(no joke) in order to complete the transfer.

So, I am actually really happy about this decision. Also, by doing this, gamers, or casual players alike who might not be buying a lot of digital content can save on the console.

That said... I think a 16gb model and a 64gb model probably would have been more appropriate.

I have a 320gig external hard drive I got for $12. Any more stupid questions?

btw I got the hard drive out of an old broken laptop I had sitting around.

Bad sectors and severe fragmentation can lead to premature hard drive failure. In other words don't buy a s***y HDD. Wouldn't a quality HDD be better in the long run?

The way I look at it, both the 32GB and 8GB versions of the Wii U are undersized. The 360 started out with a 20GB drive and that ended up being horribly undersized itself.

The Wii U's saving grace is that you can add external hard drives to it with a size limit of I believe 2TB. This is more than enough room and is cost effective.

Just Dance at 15 GB... is that an error? That's almost RAGE level space, lol.
