Princess Peach is too unique to appear in New Super Mario Bros. U

Princess Peach is not a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. U because she is too unique to be kitted out with a generic move set, game director Masataka Takemoto has told gamesTM.

Funny...they said that she didn't appear in the Wii version because it was something to do with her dress and the way it moves in game....something like that I think. Whats with the excuses...your supposed to challenege yourself to get past these problems. Look at NaughtyDog and Uncharted 3, they chose a sand setting because sand particles were the hardest thing to do, they challneged themselfs untill they got it right.

There missing a chance with these games, why have two generic toads, why not the old SMB2 gang. Mario, Luigi, Original Toad and Peach, let Daisey get kidnapped for once.

it was something to do with physics if i remeber correctly

I really don't see why this would be a big deal. NSMB plays nothing like Super Mario Bros. 2 and in that one each character had different abilities and attributes. In NSMB Mario, Luigi and the Toads all play the same, so having Peach would probably not change the game at all.

As for "challenging" themselves, go play the 3D Mario games. NSMB doesn't really do much that's particularly new outside of new power ups and they don't really need to be. It's like asking Nintendo to revolutionize Mario Party. There's no real reason to do so.

"I really don't see why this would be a big deal. NSMB plays nothing like Super Mario Bros. 2 and in that one each character had different abilities and attributes"

and...it's called nostalgia, still would of been to have.

"As for "challenging" themselves, go play the 3D Mario games. NSMB doesn't really do much that's particularly new outside of new power ups and they don't really need to be"

So you wouldn't want them to push themselfs to make a game even better, are you serious, why would you think like that. Pushing boundaries when developing games is what helps them make the best game they can.

I understand you have a "thing" for Nintendo but saying it's no big deal and they shouldn't challenge themselfs is silly. All developers should try and push there games as much as they can.

I said I don't see how excluding Peach because they want the characters to play the same is a big deal (and plus, in each game Peach is the one who is kidnapped. You'd have a better chance including Daisy or Rosalina).

"So you wouldn't want them to push themselfs to make a game even better, are you serious, why would you think like that."

Actually, I never said that. The point of NSMB is nostalgia. It does not necessarily need to tread new ground since the whole premise is to bring back that same sense of playing the older 2D games. Notice how each one takes elements from different retro Mario games.

Now, you tell me how to maintain that formula and somehow completely retool it in a way that seems fresh and maintain quality design. Do you yourself even know what you want out of it?

"I understand you have a "thing" for Nintendo but saying it's no big deal and they shouldn't challenge themselfs is silly."

Even though they do exactly that with the 3D Mario games. Also that "thing" of mine is called being a fan. As in having a preference for Nintendo's games. I'm sorry that this is somehow a detriment to my base.

Give the NSMB series a rest and start making Mario Bros. Games in the Vein of the classic Mario Bros games. Grittier artstyle, more fresh content ala SMB3.

Or why not make a sequel to Super Mario Bros. 2?

Why not create a massive 2D Mario game where you actually return to the retcon world of Mario Bros. 2 AND have A Mario Bros. 3 experience also, where its like 2 games in one?

The possibilities are endless, but Nintendo is content to phone in 2D Mario games and push 3D Mario games instead.

League_of_Draven4169d ago

I hear she will be an unlockable skin/costume in the new Cooking Mama game.

GreenRanger4169d ago

She's not in the game because she got kidnapped again.

MrSmith4169d ago

Why not just create a 2D Mario platformer with sprites like Bros. 2/USA where each character had unique physics. They did it back then, why not now? The games need a new artstyle too.

Goodbye New Mario, I Won't Miss You

Am I missing something? It looks exactly the same, just higher resolution… Is this sarcasm?

specialguest306d ago

Yes, you're not observant if you think it looks exactly the same. It immediately appeared different to me from the start. Mario's 3D model will always be the same, so not much difference there. However, the animation they've given the Super Mario Wonder makes it look more like a CGI Mario animation where as the New Mario Bros game looks more like typical video game animation movements

__SteakDeck__305d ago

@specialguest Yeah those animations are insane.

FinalFantasyFanatic305d ago

You really didn't notice the difference? It's really obvious, I was surprised when I first saw the trailer.

"Am I missing something?"

Your glasses maybe?

Juancho51306d ago

This Mario game looks great, getting a switch for this and Mario RPG. CANT WAIT, TITS JACKED.

Profchaos305d ago

Yeah I liked how much more emotion could be conveyed through the new style at first glance I didn't see much difference but then rewatching the trailer I'm seeing more and more animations that remind me of the Mario artwork from the manual of smb3

Outlawzz305d ago

I hated the new super Mario bros Style. This new one seems a lot more expressive and less generic. I hope it's a good game

shinoff2183305d ago

I prefer the 2d Mario's. Me and my girl have played them all together and mario galaxy , Mario odyssey. The 2nd player option is extremely eh
