PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is on its way. The lineup has been clarified at E3/PAX. The big question here is, why hasn’t Sega come out with a fighting game like Super Smash Brothers? They have plenty of great characters outside of the Sonic Franchise to choose from, characters from Shenmue, Madworld, Streets of Rage, NiGHTS, Phantasy Star, and the list goes on and on.
SEGA has announced Fearless: Year of Shadow, a campaign that celebrates Sonic the Hedgehog and his brooding acquaintance, Shadow.
GamesIndustry.biz writes: "Relic is best known for the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War games, and recently developed the new Age of Empires for Microsoft. Relic will transition to an independent studio and will no-longer be part of the Sega group of studios.
The majority of the 240 job cuts are across Creative Assembly and Sega Europe, while there will be a ‘small number’ cut from Sega HARDLight. There was no mention of other Sega UK studios, including Two Point Studios and Sports Interactive."
Sega had such a turbulent existence from the mid-90s to when they dropped out of console manufacturing entirely in 2001, it’s understandable if you’ve never heard of the Genesis Nomad.
While a Super SEGA Bros Brawl would be neat, SEGA needs to get their act together on core franchises such as Sonic, Shenmue, NiGHTS, and Phantasy Star (though to be fair, PS, Yakuza, and Virtua Fighter have all been good lately).
Actually they could just team with Nintendo for a smash bros game sense they are so similar, and the target audience for smash bros has already proved that they love sonic and sega, because most of them were 80's babies or early 90's babies, which is the era ruled by Nintendo and SEGA
I don't think that would be a great idea. I think we've all been pretty happy with Smash Brothers, now we have all these people calling for other Smash Brothers types of games. It could end up diluting the market, especially if a bad Smash Bro's type of game were to be released, it might have a negative impact on the good Smash Bro's games.
SSMB? What is the "M" for?
Anyway, i think SEGA should make one for sure. They have such great characters and i would really enjoy the game if done right.
Another option would be Nintendo partnering with SEGA and making the next Smash bros have all Nintendo and SEGA characters.
While that would be cool, i dont want 2D Crossover Brawlers to become over done. The fact we have gotten only 5 in 13 years makes them unique and special. I dont want these to become Call of Duty in terms of release.
