Death Rally Review [Capsule Computers]

Author Joshua Moris of Capsule Computers writes:

"Unlike other games where you enjoy easy courses and build up your morale, Death Rally really socks it to you from the get go. You are forced to learn driving mechanics and understand that you might have to lose some races to get better. However, getting second or third place can be very enjoyable if you are able to destroy your opponents in the process."

I haven't grabbed the game yet myself, however I did own the original Death Rally (probably about 15 years ago) and that game was amazingly fun and addictive. It was a part of the golden era of 90's PC games, and it was very original in it's premise. This game seems to be a very solid remake/re-imagining of the original, and I'm definitely considering grabbing it.

The thing that really drew me into the original was that it took the idea of a basic top-down racer (such as Off-Road, the original Micro-machines games, etc.) and it provided more depth for enhancing your car, more clever ideas on how you could mess with other racers, and it even brought in cameos of other popular PC gaming icons (such as Duke Nukem) who were among the toughest racers you had to beat.

This is certainly one of my gems from that era, along with the original "One Must Fall", "Rise of the Triad", "Raptor: Call of Shadows", the "Wing Commander" series, and actually quite a bunch of others. Sorry for the rant, but this is such an awesome throwback to some of my favorite oldschool gaming I grew up with, and it's great to see that these games haven't been forgotten.
