The 3DS seems to be doing pretty well right now. However, I do wonder how the PSP is almost on par sales wise with the PS Vita? Does that mean the PSP is still going strong over in Japan?

izumo_lee4307d ago

A lot of developers are still making games for the PSP cause of its popularity in Japan. They seem to be reluctant to cross over to the PS Vita for now but eventually they will make the shift over. I would like Sony to encourage these Japanese devs a little more to make the shift over to the Vita though.

I do find it strange that the Vita has a super cheap dev kit compared to the PSP & 3DS yet games are slowly being made for the system.

Perhaps it's because those handhelds have a bigger market than the Vita at this point of time? A game that I am highly interested in called Persona 4:Golden hasn't performed as well as I thought it should've, but I think I know the reason for that.

Sony/Atlus(?) decided for some reason that it was a good idea to launch Persona 4:Golden at the same time as Pokemon:Black&White 2 was being released with a 3DS console bundle. It's like releasing a title when COD is coming out. It's utter madness and bad business sense to drop your title against a selling phenomenon like that.

This is why exclusives are very important to a platform. Sony knows that I am sure.
But the question is if its addressing the portable market, which is run by young kids, with the right kind of games?

As far as I can see the games are not there yet for the PS Vita.

Overall if the PSP still sells its good for Sony. But they need a Mario or Pokemon for the PS Vita for it to really get played by many kids.

It still did pretty well up against a juggernaut like Pokemon. It also has to be taken to account that the sales do not track digital releases & if i remember Persona 4 is on the Japanese PSN store.

I thought Pokemon B&W2 are DS games so i did not know there was a 3DS bundle (i do know the games are compatible with the system though). If i remember the 3DS did not get a significant boost in sales when the game came out cause practically everyone in Japan has the original NDS already.

Pokemon B&W2 are DS games but Nintendo are pretty smart when it comes to getting people adopting their system by offering bundle deals to get people to make the transition over to the 3DS. It's still selling quite solidly compared to the rest of the consoles on that list.

Just adding up the numbers. Compared to 3DS's sales figures: 51.930 units, the combined total of the rest of the consoles is: 44762. That's pretty solid in my eyes.

CrazyInsane4307d ago

3DS – 51,930 units
PS3 – 14,297 units
Vita – 11,544 units
PSP – 10,627 units
Wii – 6,654 units
Xbox 360 – 711 units
DSi – 455 units
PS2 – 474 units

PS2 is actually doing out, for the longest time the PS2 was over 1k, it's dying out.

I think what's more sad is the japanese are actually waiting for the wii-u.

It astonishing to see the 3DS do so well with the 3DSLL (3DSXL US/UK) right around the corner. These are the total numbers so far as of last week.

3DS 68,914 (-4%) 6,444,561
PSV 24,727 (+84%) 794,891
PS3 16,987 (+12%) 8,289,116
PSP 10,542 (+14%) 19,041,875
Wii 6,755 (+5%) 12,460,856
DS 1,310 (-18%) 32,958,592
X360 1,029 (0%) 1,594,307

As you can see, the 3DS is already catching up to the PS3 in a little over a year, which makes me think that its going to be another success in Japan. The Vita however, continues to struggle with minor peaks here and there. As long as the PSP continues to have the support that it does, Japan will continue to support it. It's great that there is still some major support with the PSP, (Time Travelers, which is a multi-console release 3DS/PSP/PSVita), but makes it difficult to justify a purchase on Vita, when it's available on two cheaper handhelds. I could see why it's also on 3DS, as the 3DS is the competitor, but putting it on PSP makes me wonder why Sony would want to compete with the Vita.

Ar Tonelico Qoga: Knell Of Ar Ciel Retro Review – Love Conquers All

Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.

Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.

That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.

Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.

I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.
